  • I've been working with Coach Tessa from Force Fitness to help with a severe case of scapular winging, and we've made huge progress in only a week. Scapular winging is often misunderstood and miscued, so we thought this was a good opportunity to review exercises we use to help. The video gets cut off at the end (camera battery died) but the good content is still in there.

    - pipe lateral stretch
    - commando back & forth
    - back crawl
    - forward-reaching pull-apart
    - protraction against wall
    - pull back walking against wall

    I have this condition but my lat on that side is have spams and random pins and needles down that arm. Anyone? I have been stretching my chest and lats and it feels like it works for about 5 mins and then the spasm and winging happens again

      Pretty common since it's a load/motor control and positional issue you are an asymmetrical creature by nature you probably utilize one side of your body much different than the other ;)

    She need to do over extended push ups
    Thes muscles that control the scapula are the ones that look like ribs
    They are activated by over pushing
    That's why it's call the boxers muscles

      Gian Marco Vaccaro all great variations as long as the person is using them to develop scapular awareness and control. Often see people doing these exercises simply exacerbating the problem they already have.
      For example, I gave Tessa scapular push ups from knees to help her learn that the scapula wraps around the body, not just "pinches back". Once she developed awareness and motor control we were able to load the pattern with the other exercises you mentioned.

    Greate demonstration. I have both side scapular winging. My left shoulder snapping when i abduct 90 degrees. This is caused by winging issue i guess, right ??

      If it wasn't clear, I think it's a motor control and loading mechanics issue. Teaching better motor control and loading the tissues appropriately will help. If there is pain, you should refer out. Good luck!

    Here I was thinking that I have winged scapulae because I'm skinny, spent so much money on muscle relaxants, I'm left broke and the pain became even worse. Only to search for exercises to relieve back pain and found that a winged scapula is a problem.😭😭😭 Wish I had searched for this earlier and had not been left broke. Thank you for this

      lol, that sounds about right. Look for another place for physical therapy OR help yourself. In this day and age you can easily get useful information online for free and do this at home.

      Dead Man something else is going on it's similar it may also be compression of my long thoracic nerve I'm not sure it does feel good to hang though it seems to pull it in more in the right direction I think it's sinking somehow it's definitely some type of a serratus or levator scapulae issue

    This is great. I was looking for some good moves to fix my chicken wings. I got the whole load: scapular winging, round shoulders, weak neck, you name it. Lots of stuff to fix.

      I fixed all that in about 6 months and that wasn't even doing it everyday I could've probably fixed it in 2 or 3 but I was lazy lol. Had weak traps like a mf lmao. Feel so much better and more confident. How about you?

      Think of it like skill work. Do it not when you are fatigued but fresh, and focus more on the quality of individual reps than in getting a lot in. 10 minutes at the beginning of a session is a great start to work through these drills.
