    Very useful tutorial. Thank you, Karl! Great setup, I adore how you have a full range of highlights and shadows with a very soft gradient between them; the highlights not being harsh at all, very organic. Great!

    Hello Karl. You're work is very inspiring. I have to say that my photography passion is nature, wildlife and deep backcountry photography. However, I have never had a monetary offer for any of my photos. It's very, very difficult for myself at 47 years old to spend 7-13 days alone in the wildernes to capture photos that people will never see from the road. But I will continue to do it as log as possible. But a strange thing happened 4 days ago when a local small Business owner who follows my instagram page asked me to shoot her products for brochures and flyers. Now with the combination of watching you work, and being honored with this opportunity, on an extremely small budget, I have purchased a set of lower end soft boxes, a boom softbox, an umbrella stand with 3 types of umbrellas, a 3rd flash with a trigger, a basic barn door lamp with colored inserts, a couple of backdrops and a Tether Tools setup to run to my desktop. Sorry for the novel but I really like the lamps that I see you use, while you refer to them as pico lamps. I haven't been able to find them and probably couldn't aqcuire one anyways. Where do I find some of this very specialized equipment that you use, and is there a used market that I might be able to tap into to aqcuire some more equipment. Lastly, in your opinion, do I have what I need for equipment to get started at a basic level? Thank you Karl for what you do. You're time and resources spent to help others. I know this video is old, but I hope this finds you.

      Hi Jason, yes Picolites are more of a specialised tool you can learn more about them on Broncolors website but I'd say at this stage as you are new to product photography to get some practise in with what you have so far before you make a heavy investment. Also check out some of our product photography tutorials on Karl Taylor Education they will help you get to grips with many product photography concepts.

      @@VisualEducationStudio After learning about your educational and training courses only yesterday, your extremely prompt response and advice also show complete dedication and attention to detail in your desire to pass on your knowledge to those of us who want to know what and how you so what you do. I do now know that I for sure intend to dedicate some of my time to your training and courses. I have only a vert tiny area to work in but I shall do the best with what I have. So now I will ask a question that in hope will get me started in the right place. Of your many training subjects, please advise me upon which course to start with. This may seem to be a no brainer type of question, but your skills all so much intermingle with each other that it does make it a difficult decision for me. Thank you so much Karl.
      Very Respectfully,
      Jason A. Wiser

    Dear Karl, firstly thank you for your great videos - I have searched and searched, but I cannot find the mirrored surface material as per your description. I require a small sheet 40x40cm but I would be happy with any size for the moment; kindly recommend if you know a good make/supplier; thank you in advance!

    Hi Carl. I really enjoy every video you make. Dont you think that the 1862 and the word under the label (Bacardi I believe) should be more visible and how could this be possible?

    • @VisualEducationStudio
      @VisualEducationStudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it should and this would have been an easy fix by carefully marking the edges of the numbers in places with a black pen or adding a little more diffusion behind the bottle for one shot. It was simply something I didn't pay attention to on this occasion as this was not for a client and it was filmed fairly quickly for youtube. Our main training at KarlTaylorEducation.com goes into more detail on the details!

    There were quite a number of lights for the shoot. Though where did the flash emitt from ! ?

    • @VisualEducationStudio
      @VisualEducationStudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It comes out of the lights. They have a lamp so you can see what you are doing and then they flash when you take the picture.

    The one thing I did not fully get: after 3:10 you mention a special hard stuff you seem to be using instead of just using real condensation drops. Is that to give you more time and a less wet bottom compared to working with original condensation drops - which would turn into "tears" rather quickly and give you a puddle at the bottom. Or is there some other reaseon?

    • @VisualEducationStudio
      @VisualEducationStudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Real condensation can run down the bottle leaving streaks, it also evaporates under the heat of the modelling lights. The artificial condensation becomes solid and forms rounder droplets. Learn more in section 15 on this page www.karltayloreducation.com/product-photography-courses/

    Hi Karl and karl's followers.
    I'm not sure if my screen is old and without resolution enough but I see some bands on Bacardi label (to the right side) and it makes me think about the glue used to paste the label to the glass. Are those bands glue marks? I'm sorry if my English has not too much sense.
    Thanks

    1) Perspex is frosted on both sides I suppose. Is it methyl polymethacrylate (plexi) or polycarbonate?
    2) This piece of shining chrome plated metal sheet remind my drying glossy barite prints. Squeezing water and airbulbs with a rubber roller. A nightmare when you were expected to promptly process 2000 army oath commemorative postcards. :D

    Where can I find a metal sheet?

    • @seanpaget

      I bought a sheet of polished stainless steel from a local metal sheet company in the UK. I think they are used as mirrors in places where glass mirrors might be a hazard.

    Whats your opinion on the light glare being left on product pictures being photographed by Amazon Photography Studio? You can see them at BodyDetailer.com look at the 32 oz shower gels, Amazon says theres no way to eliminate the light glare which is showing up on many products on Amazon.

    • @VisualEducationStudio
      @VisualEducationStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could show you how to shoot those without a reflection. Head to KarlTaylorEducation.com

      @@VisualEducationStudio We dont need to know how as we are not photographers, you may however contact Amazon Photo Opps since they are the ones doing it wrong. They did however re do them without the glare by removing the glossiness of them. Thanks

    Is Karl's accent particular to a particular area in or around the U.K.? I lived in London for about half a year, and during that time I travelled all around England, Scotland & Wales and while in London worked in an office with people from Wales, Birmingham, around London and more and I can't recall hearing anyone that spoke quite like he does.

    • @VisualEducationStudio
      @VisualEducationStudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Mavfan1 i've copied this as someone else has a similar question: Technically it's not actually from the UK, it's British as I am from the Channel Islands which are a small group of what is called 'crown dependencies' and are Islands close to the coast of Bretagne and Normandie in France. The islands were part of Normandie hundreds of years ago and then Normandie took over England, so technically the Channel Islands actually own England! :) After some years the Islands had the choice of staying with France or allegiance to the british crown, they chose the british crown which is why they have the special status they have now. Geographically though looking at a map you would guess they were french. In fact nearly all of the road names are still in french and some of our laws are based on french customs. We have our own government that is separate from the UK and many people from England think Channel Island people sound either slightly Australian or South African. I've also travelled a lot and spent quite a long time in Asia and Australia which has probably influenced my accent further.

    I guess I'm a purist when it comes to any visual effect.
    I applaud you Karl on the "secret mixture" you created to aid the consumer experience indicating a chilled or cold sweating on the bottles. My thinking is to just chill the bottles and allow real moisture for the shot. Is there some downside I'm not getting?

    • @mavfan1
      @mavfan1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      reality is messy! ;-P Link to your work with visual effects?

    • @VisualEducationStudio
      @VisualEducationStudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Christopher, the set up time on these shots can be really long and real condensation will evaporate or run and leave a mess on the surface. Even if you use a dummy bottle and then put the cold one in there will be problems with wet marks or not having the label perfectly aligned etc. It's much better to have something in there with solid droplets that just aren't going to move or evaporate.
