This USA-Made Electric Bike has Pedals but Looks & Rides like a Motorcycle

  • If it looks like a motorcycle, rides and handles like a motorcycle, then it's a motorcycle, correct? Well, not necessarily. Over the past years the modern personal mobility market has acquainted us with a good deal of unconventional transportation inventions - smart scooters, electric skateboards, monowheels, hoverboards - and surprisingly some of them managed to become popular among consumers.
    We are closely following the changes in the world of electric commuting vehicles and are regularly making videos about latest innovations and add them here: • Electric motorcycles, ...
    If you are following the news as much as we do, then you should have noticed a newly emerging class of electric commuting vehicles and is getting a lot of traction lately. The representatives of this class could be briefly described as a mix between classic mopeds and lightweight motorcycles of the 125cc class and an average electric bicycle.
    These motorbike-inspired bicycles are usually equipped with 750 watt electric motors, have a pedal assist system with cadence sensors and a thumb throttle, in case you don't feel like pedaling at all; but in terms of looks they are very similar to a lightweight motorbike: they have knobby tires suitable for mud-terrain riding, a full suspension system with decent suspension forks in the front and long bench seats for comfortable commuting with a passenger.
    In today's video we would like to discuss the news about the newest ebike model by an American manufacturer called Volcon ePowersports. For the 2023 model year they are bringing to the market their 'Brat' bike and we would like to see how it compares to other models in the market in terms of technical equipment, motor power, estimated riding range and, of course, the pricing.

    Believe the weight is part of classification to motorcycle, not sure but maybe the case as with extreme speeds on 2 wheels, the weight needs to be of a standard weight from having bike frame go Airbourne when hitting them bumps or mini ramps on streets. Yes, you will take off if going around 40 plus mph on regular frame and parts. Speeds need weight to compensate center of gravity of not having the ride fly thru air after a bump.

      @lkj974 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@johnw65 Electric motors have loads of torque and are very efficient at low speeds. You could step on your cranks to get your bike moving from a stop but it isn’t really necessary or helpful. Climbing hills is another matter, gears are very helpful there. Headwinds? I dreaded headwinds when riding a regular bike. E-bikes easily overcome the extra drag.
      You won’t be pedaling home bikes like the ones shown in this video, trust me. Even my older, lighter PAS e-bike needs to be in PAS 1 to be “neutral”. In addition to the greater weight of the e-bike, you are also working against the electrical motor. Some more sophisticated systems like the Bosch have a clutch which can take the motor offline (these are NOT hub systems) and eliminate that drag (or so I have heard). You could probably pedal a bike like that home. Otherwise, I wouldn’t count on doing that.

      @@carriebartkowiak Good morning, Yes and I was answering DC's question: "Is the Volcon's Brat the obvious choice compared to its competition? Share your thoughts below!" And I made as inclusive a list as I could. Then, for everyone's benefit, I posted my answer in the open for all to see. I tried to find bikes with equal or better specs for less money (better deals). Glad you saw it and the video. What's your favorite ebike these days?

    Unless you can beat 2,200 and the bike goes as fast as 55 I'll stick with my goat power bites I don't care how awesome all these bikes look because they basically look just like the goat power bikes but my bikes are cheaper and faster and I'll stick with them that's over $4,000 for that you can get the motor goat or the power goat for 2200 and add a second battery for 600 and you're still under

    Stay away from Rumble Motors. Any e bike of theirs. I owned an Air V2. What a lemon. It only went 9 miles on TWO batteries. The companies customer support is even worse. They basically either ignore you. Mis lead you. Or make it very difficult to return what is clearly an awful e bike. Many owners with other models have experienced the very same thing. So go with a company that offers customer support more than just a fancy looking e bike. ( and one that actually offers an owners manual ) which Rumble doesn’t even give you.

  • @Toutvids
    @Toutvids ปีที่แล้ว

    Most of these are overpriced junk with weak batteries and motors for what they are charging. Do some research, people. You can get a 1000 watt 48 volt 20 ah motor/battery ebike for $2,000 or less. At 750 watts and 13 to 15 ah these are ~$1200 bikes unless they have dual batteries. Know this: the American companies are simply buying chinese parts and selling them to you at huge markups.
    I've been searching Amazon, eBay and bikes sites for days, looking for something around $1,000 price point. Still haven't made my decision but none of these are good values.
