      Hi Ilhias, my apologies for the late reply. The camelthorn seeds sprouted well and grew well for a short while but they are not Bonsai material. Rather stick to Monkeythorn. Good luck!!

    I have to give feedback. I watched your video, and when you cut the seeds I thought you were making nonsense, I have never heard of this technique and I love plants and trees since a very young age. But alas, I believe one is never too old to learn, so I tried it, cut some on the ine side, some on the other side, and some not at all, the ones that I cut actually came out in only 3 days!! After only 2 weeks some are already 4cm high. Also I have to add, I picked up these seeds years ago!

    How do you place the seeds in the soil? Scarified section down or the seed on its side? Does it matter? I have grown a lot of acacias from seed but still have problems with damping off. I found that seeds need to go deeper into the soil when placed with the scarified section down and was wondering if that contributes to the damping off.
    Well done on those camelthorns, they are definitely some of the hardest to grow from seeds.

      yes scarified part down but i would stick to Monkey thorn. i placed them with the seed about halfway down into the medium. daily misting sometimes, twice a day. i would check your medium or surround plants if you have a damping off problem. never experienced it myself

      I have found that the Camelthorn is very difficult to keep going. I suggest planting them out until they have a reasonable size before working with them. If you can get Monkey Thorn or Sweet thorn it will be easier and better

    How did it go with these?

      Hi Matti, sorry for the late reply. They germinated and grew well, but the specie is not ideal for bonsai. They are easy to grow, but I prefer the other thorn trees for bonsai.

    Hi Michael, I successfully got 19 out of 20 seeds to grow but unfortunately they died at about 5-6 cm. They seem to have dried out somehow even though there was enough moisture. Any idea what the reason could be?

      Hi Nils, yes they appear to be very temperamental. I have one that has grown well. Unintentionally as well. One of my seeds landed in the soil I had in an old inner from a washing machine. Used for tomatoes. It sprouted grew and is still growing which got me thinking. It seems they are very sensitive when it comes to root space. This plant had tons of space and appears to be strong, albeit ugly as well🤣. Try and get them to grow and when they have a few leaves, move them to a large container with lots of root space. Problem is pruning back later. They HATE have there roots messed with. For this reason that I moved over to Black Monkey thorn. More forgiving and better looking. Next potting season I will be making four new videos on those as they need to be repotted.

    How many time a week do you have to water the seeds ?

    • @BonsaiMosselBay
      @BonsaiMosselBay  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi and thanks for visiting. With these I sprayed them twice a week depending on the weather. Because I had them inside the container it did allow humidity to stay consistent so twice a week was usually enough, but I would recommend monkey thorn if you are looking at starting from seeds. The camelthorn is not the best for bonsai.
