    Why would you take off the BEST iron sights ever put on a rifle ?

    • @uglydog311
      @uglydog311 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      There are very good ways to mount a scope without taking off the rear sight . That rifle comes with a mount for a Scout Scope . If it has glass or batteries , I have broken it . Without iron sights to back up an optic , you have a heavy and expensive stick

      But muh iron sights

    • @MochiMoose
      @MochiMoose 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I have to agree with ugly dog on this one. Some of the best iron sights out there, and they could have got the low scope height they wanted with a GG&G scout extended rail for the M1A, which would allow them to use their low scope rings or get a cantilever scope mount with low rings, mounting the cantilever to the rear to put the scope just in front of the iron sights. There are are just many ways they could have avoided removing the irons which are definitely essential, especially considering that sling isn’t holding that rifle close to his body, it’ll be swinging around and smacking into all kinds of shit. Just better to have those badass M1A irons IMO

      Looks to me like they have a enough clearance that they wouldn't have to have removed those irons. That's the whole point of the scope mount.

    Lost me in the question of why did you get that. Um it's a battle rifle replica that can actually turn cover into concealment, can use it to hunt deer, fires a round that is capable at much greater distances than 5.56, it's sexy, has great irons, made of steel instead of recycled coke cans, it screams America, another bald eagle is born and soars upon purchase of a m1a, the list goes on and on.

      I like it because I have 2 AR15s and 2 AK47s (all modernized) and even still, I love shooting my henry classic .22lr. I LOVE the older looking weapons. Simpler. Wood looks great. Plus I don't have a deer rifle yet, and this would fit the bill perfectly.

    It's actually like a Garand safety. God, it irritates me to hear guys who were raised on ARs criticize a perfectly good safety. Just because it is not an AR does not mean it's inferior.

    • @GrySgtBubba
      @GrySgtBubba 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Kennith Franklin I perfer the Garand/M1A safety better over the AR style. Keeps your hand right where it needs be once you're hot! And it's really not that unsafe if you just pay attention to what you're doin.

    • @mrhellotherehowareu1384
      @mrhellotherehowareu1384 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The safety is exactly the same. You can interchange the safety, trigger and hammer between a garand and m1a. The m14 is essentially an upgraded garand.

    • @themightypen1530
      @themightypen1530 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wasn't raised on ARs and I *love* my M1A but the safety is the worst part of the gun, it's not a smart design. I haven't fucked it up yet but the location isn't just slightly unsafe but also not terribly ergonomic.

    • @JoseyWales44s
      @JoseyWales44s 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@themightypen1530 Ergonomics can be affected by personal taste and that is fine. My main complaint is people who think the safety is poorly designed; it is not. When placing the safety "on", your fingers are outside the trigger guard. When taking the safety "off" your finger is inside the trigger guard, where it should be when you are ready to fire. No one should have their finger inside the guard UNTIL they are ready to fire.

    Great Video guys! I’m a new friend of the channel, I picked up one of these a few years back it’s a 1994 & 1995 M1A with a synthetic stock never been fired it’s still in my safe waiting to be shot! I paid $700 for it came with one 20 round mag! Thanks for sharing this video

  • @MegaChevy65
    @MegaChevy65 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    We almost have the same exact set up only I use the mag pull sling adapter in the top rail so the rifle doesn't lay upside down at rest. I'm giving up on the cheek riser and just having an adjustable one drilled in. Less bulky. I love this rifle. Definitely makes my other rifles feel light after running and gunning with it.

    One cannot simply own just one M14 rifle..........
    I dont agree with the removal of the iron sight. You could of put a scope on without removal of that sight as well as make it quick disconnect. Other than that looks good.

  • @jeremiahburton901
    @jeremiahburton901 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Tip for the cheek riser moving around. Cut out a section of drawer or cabinet liner and place it between the stock of the rifle and the cheek riser. Use the most grippy variety you can find, they are often an almost net like material made of rubber. I cut some to match my coyotem1a cheek riser and it completely eliminated the movement. Great rifle and set up. Looking forward to more videos on this rifle.

    • @chriscase1392
      @chriscase1392 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got my M1 from the CMP, the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Hard to believe, but it dates back to the post-WWI era, when the country saw a need for civilians to be good marksmen. The CMP is run by the Federal government. They did then, and still do, sell surplus military weapons and accessories to civilians. They are completely out of Springfield '03s, but they still have lots and lots of M1s. Recently, they've had Colt 1911 pistols. All used of course, but sorted into different grades and perfectly maintained. I paid just over $700 for my field grade Garand, (meaning capable of being issued to soldiers in the field), when the private market price would have been about $1200. I don't know what prices are like now. In order to buy from the CMP, they will do a background check, and you have to be a member of a recognized shooting club or organization. Solve that issue by joining the GCA, the Garand Collectors Association, $25 per year, and get a great quarterly publication all about the M1. I love it, read it from cover to cover. If you're interested in getting an M1, my advice is to DO IT NOW. The CMP, and the ability to legally own one of best semi-auto rifles ever made, may not be around forever, if you get my drift. If you want to pursue this, reply and I'll get back to you.

From a 50-something, I guess it's just me being the guy who yells for the kid to get off his lawn when that kid will buy his house when you die. Oh well, it's the little things that drive one crazy.

    • @GeorgiaBoy1961
      @GeorgiaBoy1961 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Consider getting a Bassett Machine scope mount, which is offered in a version which allows see-through use of iron sights, as well as one which does not. Comes with an M1913 rail on top for easy mounting of the optic of your choice, and it is true zero-hold, which means that you can remove the mount + scope and then reattached it without losing your original zero. Finally, the rifle comes with an ingenious and very compact little torque wrench (tool) which works great. That way, you have the best of both worlds - a nice scope plus mount, easily-removed when you want to use your iron sights. When you want the scope back, simply remount the Bassett Machine mount + scope to the correct torque spec (using the tool provided) and you're set.

    Glass bed the stock and it will clean up the group quite a bit without costing an arm and a leg. Check it out and be gentle taking it in and out of the stock. Try to clean it without tearing it down all the time it will keep the fit tighter for longer and if you do ever glass bed the stock it will matter even more, a lot more. Nice rifle guys. I have 2 nice AR15 rifles and I love the M1a I just can't afford one right now.

    In your quest for "out of the box new" Springfield Armory M1A accuracy I'd suggest starting with a couple easy modifications.
    Change out the "flat" sided op-rod spring guide with a Sadlak match grade guide rod and then shim (unitize) the front "barrel band" to "gas cylinder" junction point with a Fulton Armory shim kit. These two simple modifications yield very nice results when shooting quality 168-176 grain ammo.
    As for optics modifications I went with a Sadlak "Airborne" steel scope mount, Vortex rings, SWFA 10x fixed side focus scope and a Bradley adjustable cheek rest.
    My next M1A... and there will be a next one, might be a Fulton Armory piece. I'm intrigued by their new 6.5 Creedmoor offering.

      The AR10 was honestly an all around good rifle but the M1A did a couple things a little better. Accuracy out of this particular M1A was very good. The M1A will also suppress better. The felt recoil on the M1A seems to be way smoother as well. That could be due to a little extra weight.

    So you neutered the M1A's basic aiming system? One question for your "DMR Support"...what happens if your optic gets fucked? M1As make great clubs, but I'd rather use them as they're intended.

    I've had a Scout for 12 years now. Same ARMS 18 mount, with a Leupold 1.5-5x in low rings. Clears the iron sights just fine, so your setup kinda puzzles me.

      get off my lawn we are not using a leupold. We are using a vortex which is different in size. We didn’t take the irons off because we wanted to hahaha

    Why would you like this over the AR? Maybe because I want a gun that fires a round which will actually down the target.

      Scoped mines as well but I left the IRONS, also uses a Sadak Mount, Arcangle stock with GG&G mono pad and Bipod, Vortex Viper PST. I really enjoy this rifle. I recommend the Loaded model if one can afford it.

    Should've gone with a scout scope and left the iron sights alone. Bad move, anything happens to it renders it to that of a $2k clup. Scout scope mounting are typically more reliable than a receiver mount, and sits much lower.

    It wasn’t the Thompson it was the M3 Grease Gun…🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ And The M-14 was both the Shortest Serving Battle Rifle and the Longest Serving Rifle Simultaneously.. Yes It’s Heavier, The Ammo is Heavier BUT out to 500+ Yards I’d take this Scout and M1A over any AR-15 or AKM anytime..

    The scout is fine rifle. But I prefer the M14-variant NOT neutered. Why would you cut a perfectly good 22" barrel? That rifle should give you a nice dirt nap to 800 meters w/ irons. A scope is nice if you want to extend its reach for another purpose. The M14 is my favorite rifle of all. I like the AR15 just fine but only if the 14 is unavailable.
