But then my finances was screwed over during covid. I went from fine to liquidating stocks and emptying counts

She's creating exactly the same PROBLEM for her kids as SHE had with her Mum. They will have NO grandfather simply because her Mom decided that she didn't want her husband in her life.
So many families are twisted around like this for hate among the adults and it is the children who suffer.
SHE cannot even realise after having lived through it herself that she is denying her children their own grandfather !
What a loser this chick. She takes his money to pay for a wedding but doesn't invite him ? WHO does that ... Then he wants to help her out and she decides that he is harassing her BUT it's her that owes HIM money he gave a loan of for HER rent !

If her mother didn’t take her away like that, then why didn’t she hit him up for child support, unless she (mother) didn’t want him to know where she was. I tend to agree with you 99%. But the defense of not wanting his ex to loose her nursing lisence as an excuse not to inform authorities that his children have been kidnapped by their mother is piss poor. I tend to think he had a new gf or family and didn't wanna deal with his ex anymore and the cost was his kids and he choose to let them go. Maybe the claim that there was some kinda abuse was somewhat true and he didn't want it to come to light but I'd only believe THAT with proof.

I disagree, It is odd to build a new relationship with a parent who wasn’t there much. I lived in the same city as my estranged dad for 2 years and never told him. We only texted and called.
It took time to build that trust and that connection.
If my dad ever sued me for 1300 dollars I would be so sad because what’s 1300 dollars, if he really cared he would have realized that the sister’s words hurt. And she probably wasn’t ready for all the drama and things that would come along with having this relationship with him.
He offered to help with the wedding people like to assume that you have to get something for things you give. If it’s truly to be helpful that’s the reward.
I hope they can build a relationship because it’s not easy. People in these comments make it seem like she was so wrong. She is a child hurt. That he never thought to search harder for her. Regardless of her mother.

She's not the only child in the world to grow up without a parent. Depending on mom relationship with dad, I can guarantee is why he did not try harder. I had male friends who said they couldn't see their child because the mom would always give them grief or call the cops for no reason and them arrested, so they had to back away. The courts only do so much to hold a hostile parent responsible for their actions. I have family who has been in the same or similar situation and can't deal with the other parent because they are selfish and want to keep the other parent out of the child's life. I still blame the mother because it's the seed she planted in the child's mind, you should never talk bad about the other parent regardless unless they did some serious harm to the child, because otherwise, they grow up like this young lady, angry and miserable.

As a naive kid when your deadbeat parent tells you 'I tried to see you, HE/SHE wouldn't LET me!" you might believe it, but as an adult and a parent myself I immediately know they're taking the easy way out of explaining why they didn't fight for you, their CHILD, just like they took the easy way out of parenting. There isn't a planet on which I would EVER just 'give' my kids to the other parent. We can split custody even if I need to relocate, provide proof of a stable environment, anything I would be required by the courts to do. I would never just 'not know' where my kid is.
I could even give it to him if he pursued custody and lost, but he made literally no effort whatsoever and then was just like 'well I didn't want to get the person who allegedly kidnapped my child from me in trouble with her job so I just didn't pursue any form of custody or visitation for two decades." A court would have given him at least partial visitation, so why would he just decide "Well my ex doesn't want me around anymore so I'll just never see my kid again."

This case is truly saddening to hear. While it's tempting to say 'shame on you' to the daughter, there are likely unseen family dynamics at play here. She may not have been ungrateful, but rather overwhelmed by the situation. It's worth noting that the defendant, the daughter, didn't seek out her father; he initiated contact with her, which, although late, could be seen as an honorable attempt on his part. However, it's concerning that in a text, the defendant referred to him as 'Dad,' a title typically earned through shared experiences as a family. The defendant mentioned communicating with her father via text for over a year before meeting him in person. Despite any awkwardness, she accepted his offer to pay for her wedding venue, and later sought financial assistance for rent. While it may seem she's motivated solely by financial gain, there could be deeper reasons at play, layers we don't see in the courtroom. The defendant's sister publicly criticized her for only accepting their father into her life when it was financially beneficial. While this may appear true on the surface, there could be underlying motivations. The father, as the plaintiff, was likely trying to reconnect after 25 years, perhaps attempting to make up for lost time by covering wedding expenses. As Judge Milian explained, he was striving to be more than just a father, but a 'Dad,' a title with personal significance in a family dynamic. While it's possible the daughter was trying to use him, maybe she was genuinely trying to embrace his role as the 'Dad' she hadn't had for 25 years. Judge Milian's decision to order repayment of the loan was indeed justified.

Nah. She used him. Her own testimony says she stopped responding to his texts BEFORE the Facebook post. That woman used that man.

@@EChristian329 You've made some valid points, and your opinion is respected. However, I'm only scratching the surface here, just as these cases do within the time allotted, aiming to convey the essence of the situation. It's quite simple to be on this side of the case and form biased opinions, perhaps because this case or similar ones strike a chord with the observer, or they identify strongly with a particular opposing viewpoint. I never implied that she didn't take advantage of him; it's possible she seized an opportunity due to his 25-year absence, perhaps attempting to prompt him to fulfill his paternal responsibilities. While I may not agree with her objectives, there's likely more complexity to this situation than meets the eye. Her demeanor, at least from my perspective, didn't suggest ingratitude. Nonetheless, there are undoubtedly unseen layers at play.

@@cameronbolden5064 Yes, I concur; it seems characteristic of a user. Another perspective to consider is that she might have viewed it as a form of retribution for his absence over the years, and this was the minimum she felt she could do. Her only source of information about abuse came from her mother's account. Therefore, in her perception, it might have been a means to assert entitlement to his assistance. However, I don't endorse this viewpoint; there are undoubtedly more constructive approaches to address this scenario. Nevertheless, it's crucial to note that this wasn't a gift but rather a loan.

She's a hot mess because of what her mother told her about him. Parents can be very vindictive and tell their kids whatever they feel like about the other parent because of their own feelings, but the daughter didn't try hard enough either. Both are at fault. I can say, I would NOT let 25 years go by...I'd hire a detective if I had to. Unless a parent is mentally or physically abusive, I would say, " Honey, I want you to have a relationship with your dad, if you want to. We just won't be together as a family. But we both love you."

Im 59 yrs old and when i was 2.5 (1968) my parents were going thru a divorce, my father went to Vietnam and came home in 1973, but not to me. I heard from him once in 1973 or 74, then again in 1977, (the Saturday after Elvis died) then nothing else. I searched for him for over 30 yrs, it was my driving lifes mission. Like a deep down burning desire that nothing can satisfy but his presence. So JM statement about not seeing why she would still want him around, as someone that has lived that situation, she is totally wrong and have always had both parents in their lives cant possibly understand. My family never said a cross word against my father, they wanted me to form my own opinions of him. I was never a pawn nor did they allow their opinions, feelings and/or anger of him influence my thoughts of him etc. I clearly understood that theom influenced, intentional or not, the kids ideas of their father.
