Wow, this explains my ex-wife to a T! I wasn’t going to leave her despite being miserable, but God relieved me from her when she decided to cheat and move out all on her own. And in return, I’ve gotten closer to God in ways I never understood before. Thank you, Yahweh❤️

My ex husband filed for divorce and relieved me of himself when I had to leave to have a surgery so someone else who could actually look after me could look after me post surgery. Only after I was free & clear did The Lord reveal to me my now ex husband is was a type a covert narcissist. Praise Jesus!!!

I know my ex was a religious narcissist because he would get angry if I raised my hands to worship God in church and he would make us leave churches when anyone would question our relationship.
My ex was a pseudo-religious narcissist. She thinks she is religious. But she used prayers as an opportunity to lecture... obvioisly not a sincere prayer, but a holier than thou condemnation. She didn't fool me on that. But ahe was absolutely dangrrous. Tried to 'accidentally' poison me with antifreeze but... only circumstantial evidence. They are brutal to kids in a divirce but the kids eventually figire it out, after a lot of damage and a loss of thrir own identity. Watch them manipulate others... easier to catch that way. I hear this is becoming common. Narcissism is, I am convinced, the opposite of Caritas... the pure and unselfish love of God. Stay humble. Forgive. Caritas. The bible has the recipe for what narcissism isn't... and that is the cure. Crowd it out. Beware of it's cintageous nature, even among victims of the same traits. Never let ANYONE bastardize you from God. Not even our own ego.
God Is Faithful and he cannot be fooled. God Will honor your decision. I have a narcisistic father who has hidden behind the púlpito as a "pastor" which was chaos to me. I have learned how to love him and forgive him but also to move as dar away from him as possible.
You are right on. Some times we gaslight ourselves finding it hard to believe a person can be so evil. Even with their words not matching their actions. We really need discernment from Holy Spirit.
God already gave us his spirit of Sound mind to use and trust when others or we our our self do not question whether or not our believes/ thinking and actions are in line with HIS spirit or are they in line with fear which He did not gave us because in HIm is no fear but perfect love He IS.. I've dealt with these people. One of their biggest traits is tradition over truth and Love. They say the Bible is the inspired Word of God but they will in a heartbeat set this Book aside if anything written in it challenges their authority or their precious traditions. Jesus explicitly warned us about the traditions of men. He said 'The Truth shall set you free'. Truth and Love is found only in the Scriptures, not petty and vain traditions.
Very accurately describes my last 'pastor' I did leave and he was not happy about it. The sad part is that most people just stopped going to church that is not the Lord's will. There are good churches and good pastors out there you just have to find them. Born again believers will be overcomers and continue to serve the Lord.
When God is praised and worshipped by others the narrcissti will have the loudest singing voice over others and then tell them how to sing the chord. The narcicist doesn't become threatened they just take over the teachings nad get louder over the group of other Christians. They become the show. But they don't act threatened.
The one I dated was a devout "Christian" read scripture every morning and went to Church on Sundays etc. We split up and less than a week later she was engaged. When confronted she swore up and down that she wasn't seeing him while we were together and told me I needed to go to Church and find those missing pieces of myself. However, her now husband reached out and we found out she'd been seeing the both of us. It totally blew my mind as I had 100% trust in this woman and never thought her capable of such. Found out a bunch of other lies and other men she was talking to as well. She offered zero closure and never once actually admitted to cheating on me or offered a sincere truthful apology.
@@miraclesforus Yeah, I was totally shocked on finding out who she really was. Her now husband found out before he married her but guess she played the victim role and manipulated him into believing whatever story she spun and making me to be the bad guy.
I had a similar experience. My ex, who shared the Gospel to me, and was a part of the worship team, sees himself as superior above everyone else in the team. He wouldn't listen to the sermons, and would always see the mistakes of every member of the worship team. He broke up with me with an excuse of wanting to make things right with God. The day after, he already found another girlfriend, and got engaged with her after a month. But I thanked God because He rescued me at the right time. Truly, God's timing is perfect, never early, never late.
Church leaders with this problem will prey on innocent people who simply want to love God and do right. It took me a long time to realize this, as I was one of their victims until I understood what was happening. I just did not know that it was called narcissism.
It is a painful irony to find some of the humblest, most sincere Christians in some of the most twisted churches, where the pastors and A-listers are arrogant, intolerant, vain people. I guess those people who really don’t have ego issues don’t even notice? But I would still like to see them in a healthier environment with more humane teaching and preaching.
@@elizabethl6187 Most who attend these churches do not notice. They genuinely seek to love and please God by living holy lives and are sensitive to their own failures. Most can't imagine that someone who pounds the pulpit about holy living can actually be manipulating them. I had my differences with leadership while in those churches, but constantly gave them the benefit of the doubt regarding their motives. However, as I became closer to leadership and their personal lives and attitudes I eventually got to the point where the double standards had too many exceptions and excuses. I did not know the term narcissist, but that is what I saw and had to leave those churches. In their minds I became a liberal, a dangerous free-thinker, but my desire to live right and pleasing to God is not what changed, I just refused to live a double life.

Mathew 6:14,15 Jesus warns of our not obeying Gods command of forgiveness, that He will NOT forgive us. Kills the entire point of Jesus taking OUR place on the cross. Cannot be redeemed.
The narcissist I knew stated those words exactly, " I'm going to be sitting on the right side of Jesus " It was shocking to hear because she was the biggest hypocrite I'd ever met.

The Narcissist I'm dealing with believes he's the second coming of Christ. He's my former husband from a very long time ago. He believes he's wearing a crown that only some people can see. I'm his primary carer as a volunteer. When I first met him, I thought he was a very devout Christian Man, who knew Scripture very well. But it was all a front. I'd no sooner Married him than I found out he was a practicing homosexual, amongst other things. He talks of Godly things, but he's very cruel, underhanded and sly. And the list goes on. These people can reel others in with a seemingly devout Christian life. I'd not long come out of a Woman's Refuge when I rushed into Marrying him, after only 3 Months of knowing him. Looking back, I was on Prozac and very ill myself. I was scared of being on my own. And boy oh boy have I paid and paid for my mistake. I don't think anyone covers Narcissists with a Christ complex. It's the most extreme form of Narcissism.
This is so so good. I’ve witnessed and experienced this unfortunately!! The weaponization of scripture would often include what I called “pulpit pot shots”… unflattering references and examples during the sermon targeted at anyone in the congregation who was trying to hold this pastor accountable or stand up to him… after a year as senior pastor, we had lost 8 board members/elders who stepped down and left the church. Jezebel answers to no one.
I believe my husband doesn’t sleep and lives in because of his constant lying. First he lies to himself then to me and everyone else. He claims he can’t remember his rage attacks. Then he apologizes w/a but… At the moment I’m stuck due to lack of affordable housing in my area. I’m considering living out of my car with my dog. Must pray about this. I really hate feeling stuck.
My mother used to teach Sunday School. I was preparing to leave my husband, who was abusive and I told her that he punched me. My (narc) mother said "Well, he never did anything to me. I have nothing against him". I told her that was not Christian and that she was her own god. She gave me the silent treatment. The more abusive my husband got, the more she supported him.

Independent Fundamental Baptist churches (my background) have a lot of narcissistic pastors. These church leaders answer to no one. They become the god of their church. Some are truly godly men, but many, so many, are not. This video fits them well.
When the baseline expectation is that being arrogant and bombastic is proof that a pastor is preaching in the Spirit, where do you go from there? It’s challenging for people who have fiery, dominating “leadership” personalities because sometimes the Holy Spirit does speak fire. But mostly not, and not on demand.
The Narcissist tends to use God and the church as enablers and themselves as God's gift to the church. You can understand why God eventually has to expose or remove them
Wow, this explains these weird people that violate the privacy of others. They want to be like God. Mentally ill definitions like narcissist are not associated with anyone who has mentally healthy behaviors.
This sounds familiar, in a covert expression - my wife. And looking back through my life, this would be my mother as well. I wished i would have been aware of this a long time ago. Because of this history and association, i have to be aware to not display any narc behaviors myself.
That’s my soon to be ex husband. He first came across as this Godly man, involved in church but he turned out to be a vicious wolf in sheep’s clothing. This also is the woman who gave birth to me. She claims to be so righteous, but has been extremely abusive all my life. When I was born again I told her I loved Jesus more than her and she was very offended. She felt I should adore her first.
Amen, Amen! The fruit of the Spirit are the character qualities of Christ that produce actions. We can see that fruit as believers without any actions. Galatians 5:22-23 - "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law."

I grew up as a Jehovah's Witness my entire life completely believing it as TRUTH until a couple years ago when I realized we were being controlled by and serving very narcissistic/pharisaical leaders. Everything you described fits them perfectly. I woke up from the spell, but it's very hard to wake others up because they will NOT listen to anything negative about their religion. This video can be useful to help other JWs understand the control their under since it's focus is on narcissistic "religious" people, but it doesn't target or tear down one specific religious group

I’m so proud of you for waking up! That’s the Holy Spirit. I’m in the Christian faith and I woke up too and realized the same that the Pharisees sneak in because they want to play god by being the ones who teach about God, but they don’t authentically know God or follow His ways. It takes a lot of discernment to see because they say a lot of “good” things but they take the Bible out of context for their own gain. The difference is relationship vs religion. A religious spirit tries to worm its way into so many groups and gatherings no matter the faith. Satan was an Angel of light, he’s not anti-worship He’s anti-Christ and being Christ like.

Now im trying to find a new church but it honestly feels like lots of narcissists playing church. It’s very religious spirited. It’s about looks and image for a lot of people. I want to find genuine people to be equally yolked with but it’s hard. The Bible talks about in the end times there will be a mass falling away from the church. And I always interpreted that people were turning away from the faith. But I think it’s the Holy Spirit separating the sheep from the goats. The Pharisees were upset that Jesus was pulling people away from the temple. The veil was torn. You no longer needed to go there to have access to God. The Pharisees used to be able to feel like they were the gate keepers of God. They had the holiest of holies in the temple. But that was torn when Christ died and home churches started to form. Hoping I could find a great home church or eventually help start one myself.

Self correction is not narcissistic. Biggest test is empathy for other's suffering, including empathy for the suffering of jealous, sad, stressed, insecure, perpetually dissatisfied, angry, selfish narcissists and the demons that possessed them.
This is my husband 10000%. I told him one day that he didn’t love God but he wanted to be God. He wanted praise, admirations, control and etc. It is Hell ON EARTH being married to this man.
This is so true, I was praying on the couch one night reading the Bible from my tablet. He started an argument with me saying I was cheating. We had agreed we would pray, fast and go to church together, the church part was his idea. We did none of these things together, and all he did was try to point out my shortcomings. What’s strange is he was doing the exact same thing I was doing, but without me while out cheating.

This is my family. They really make me crazy. They dont serve God, but their own ego. They are so negative. They gossip about a lot of people. My mother does not have a good bond with anyone and her son and my sister are the same. Everywhere they go they bring negativity. They really drain me and there where many times in my life were I did not want to live anymore, because they also isolate me and belittle me and twist the reality and that makes me doubt myself. The only warmth I feel is in the church when some members hug me and are nice to me. But at home I only feel coldness. And I am tired of begging for their love.
And they justify every wrong doing of theirs, but if they misunderstand someone they talk very hateful about the person. I really dont understand them and my head hurts always when I try to do it.
You may not realize how needy of true love, God’s love, they are. They are just going about gaining love all the wrong hurtful way. God has given far and away full proof of His great love for each person in the world, but only “whosoever will” receive it can experience it.

My heart breaks….what I thought was my last bastion of hope turned out to be one of these deceptive narcs standing behind the cross. I reached out to him for baptism and deliverance and in no time, after praying on it, he revealed himself as the narcissist that he is. Glory to God! ❤ He truly answers prayers!
The gem I've encountered with such individuals, or the flying monkeys that speak for them is 'they only need to ask for forgiveness if they have committed a sin'. It's hard to nail down their 'sin' with hard evidence with the hope they will take responsibility, accountability, show remorse and be repentant when the abuse is insidious. Kudos to you, for repentance. I would be very interested to know how much of that was your environment, and how much was your own personality. Since pastors are generally unwilling to tackle this issue, you may have a valuable ministry in sharing your journey with others. It seems like narcissists pass on their version of religion to their kids, and usually make it mandatory. Kids MUST put on a mask, MUST agree with every point of doctrine, MUST not trust or even listen to the Holy Spirit. I have seen churches full of people who think that is doing church correctly.
We have to be careful with how we view this. Yes, every human being at some point has had some narcissistic behaviors or characteristics. BUT that is not the same as having NPD. So You do not have the personality disorder that destroys lives mentioned in video. The dangerous part can be when pastors will use that narrative to say things like… “It’s not a mental disorder it’s just the pride”. So basically don’t hold me accountable or tell me I have a mental illness cuz I’m the pastor. And that’s where the problem is
If the greatest commandment is based on real love. And because a narcissist can never achieve such a thing, they end up relying and placing emphasis on dogmas and traditions.
So sad, this describes someone I love very much. I have been asking the Lord to help me understand how to even process what has been going on. They were not like this when they were young. “They covet his position” made me laugh. My malignant narc sister has the God complex. She she speaks of herself as if all powerful. So, when she died a few minutes after a surgery and they brought her back to life, she spoke of it as if she were God and had made the decision to bring herself back to life. 🥳😂
Well I guess that is better than her saying it was her own strength and resiliency alone which always keeps her healthy no matter what she is going through at the time.
I just left a church after 12 yrs because of the Narcissist Pastor. He had pastored this chuch prior to me joining. Something happened and he had left. After we list our pastor of 10 yrs. He was rehired again. The church at this point has vety few people attending now. He has no empathy for families who have lost loved one. No counsel, no words of comfort. He is arrogant and gets rid of anyone on staff that ??'s his authority. God help the church.
Great video, just one point you referred to the religious narc as being arrogant, proud, well the pride and arrogance is another way that people make themselves enemies of God. James 4:6 God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Pride and arrogance brings resistance from the Most High God. Interesting that verse 7 says therefore submit yourselves to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. Without humility and submission no one can resist the devil. If anything he is attracted to those who share his nature and attitudes. I suspect that Satan is actually rather snuggly with the religious narc. Just some thoughts, could be helpful to someone. I am so thankful for my mom introducing me to Jesus, and just as thankful she was never forceful about it. She gave me the intro, but it was left to me if I wanted to pursue....
I knew a woman like this. She has a long list of exes. However, every last one of them is remarried, and the narcissists is alone. She still plays the victim in her stories that every last one of them were horrible to her. After getting to know her and hearing the stories as well as listening to her contradict herself constantly, I know she was the perpetrator, not the victim she claims to be.

She is so charming and flattering that nobody wants to notice her habitual lying, envy, or even the fact that little things seem to disappear when she leaves! Pastors tend to value the narcissists who serve them, so they never want to teach anything about their kinds of temptation and behavior.

Thank you so much for your lesson. I’m a practicing Catholic forced to sign a divorce as a father of 4 young children all under the age of 10 years old. My beautiful children are kNO.War full grown. My oldest sister fits into your profile of a Religious Narcissist. She recently decided to end the life of our mother (90) going on 91. My father past away several years ago. Mom gave birth to 8 children (4 girls/4 boys), and her first name is Mary. She was very prayerful, and had her own apartment and many friends at a large campus of housing for the elderly. My oldest sister is married to a Catholic farming family, and she was named executor of my mom’s affairs. I’m the oldest boy, and moved back home after my unwanted divorce. My oldest sister’s last name became King after her marriage. I don’t believe that my mom wanted to die, but my oldest sister decided to place her in her house and hospice. The whole family came to visit my mom as those people ended the earthly life of my mom. Mom died in January 2023. It’s hard for me to respect my oldest sister, and I’ve spent a lot of time in prayer 🙏 over this situation. I feel that my sister loved becoming the center of attention during a very difficult family matter. My sister’s life goes full speed ahead, and she’s constantly judging us 7 siblings. Where my mother (Mary) was the matriarch of the family, it’s NO.War Big Sister Kathy King. I can’t forgive her, and can only pray that she makes a Priestly confession about her decision regarding our blessed Mother. Thanks for your video. Oh oh oh...many do not acknowledge the war they have waged (and lost) against Yahweh. The covert narc I was married to (didn't know he was a narc then) daily tried to push G-d of the throne in my heart and put himself there. I can't tell the number of times I had to tell him that he is not my G-d and will never be; his words do not and will not override reality; and I will serve Great I Am no matter what the majority thinks, says or does. I remember as a kid being given a very abrasive lesson on skiing all work for the Lord: Dad taught me Col. 3:24 while working with me to put away dishes: he he was so utterly abrasive in his manner I felt like a cat having his nose rubbed in the litter box out of unshakable angry contempt for being ignorant about its proper use. I knew, in my heart, that I needed to learn to do all things for the Lord, and to not be selfish: but at the end of the lesson, though the verse and the act gave me a good clue as to what it was about, I still was clueless as to how to do all things for the Lord, and I had less motivation to learn because exposure to my father's contempt was so painful, and I couldn't even think about asking questions so I could understand even though I really did have a desire to do right in that matter and other matters too. I didn't know why I felt the way I felt, but figured it probably had to do with being an undisciplined child in my heart and my old nature. I didn't like how I felt, but I didn't want to be a rebel so I asked God to keep me from being bitter towards His Word over the incident as I feared that might be one of my greatest temptations.
One main reason I don't belong to any church is that I have been in 12 step groups for many years where the focus is on self honesty and rooting out one's character defects. Therefore, pastor or not, it's pretty easy to spot someone who's not working on their character defects, no matter how they attempt to present themselves. Paraphrasing Jesus ,"There is no one who is good, not one, except for our Father who is in Heaven".

That said, I would like to say that in my experience, religious narcissism, which I believe is called religious OCD (or rOCD) in the DSM manual, can be had by anyone. As a priest, I have seen it among both laity and clergy and it does not cease to irritate me.
Religious OCD, or scrupulosity, is a very disabling form of OCD, obsessive compulsive disorder. There are many who suffer from this awful form of OCD, just like any other form of OCD. Having this disorder has nothing to do with being a narcissist. The two are not interchangeable, not one and the same. That would be like saying my friend who compulsively locks her doors due to her OCD, is a narcissist. Or my friend with religious OCD, who feels guilty all the time and compelled to pray three hours a day, is a narcissist. No. They are completely different terms, topics, and titles. However, there are probably many narcissists who may happen to have some form of OCD, a mental disorder, including Religious OCD. Again that is a possibility but not a necessity. Nor must they by necessity concomitantly work together. So please do not make the mistake of placing additional harm, blame, or suffering on those who struggle with religious OCD by automatically labeling them as "narcissists". I have known at least two very kind and generous OCD sufferers, one with religious OCD. Suffering with any mental disorder does not automatically make that person a narcissist. 🙏🙏🛐🛐🐕🐕

My ex husband filed for divorce and relieved me of himself when I had to leave to have a surgery so someone else who could actually look after me could look after me post surgery. I know my ex was a religious narcissist because he would get angry if I raised my hands to worship God in church and he would make us leave churches when anyone would question our relationship.
My ex was a pseudo-religious narcissist. She thinks she is religious. But she used prayers as an opportunity to lecture... obvioisly not a sincere prayer, but a holier than thou condemnation. She didn't fool me on that. But ahe was absolutely dangrrous. Tried to 'accidentally' poison me with antifreeze but... only circumstantial evidence. They are brutal to kids in a divirce but the kids eventually figire it out, after a lot of damage and a loss of thrir own identity. Watch them manipulate others... easier to catch that way.

I've dealt with these people. One of their biggest traits is tradition over truth and Love. They say the Bible is the inspired Word of God but they will in a heartbeat set this Book aside if anything written in it challenges their authority or their precious traditions. Jesus explicitly warned us about the traditions of men. He said 'The Truth shall set you free'. Truth and Love is found only in the Scriptures, not petty and vain traditions.

Very accurately describes my last 'pastor' I did leave and he was not happy about it. The sad part is that most people just stopped going to church that is not the Lord's will. There are good churches and good pastors out there you just have to find them. Born again believers will be overcomers and continue to serve the Lord.
When God is praised and worshipped by others the narrcissti will have the loudest singing voice over others and then tell them how to sing the chord. The narcicist doesn't become threatened they just take over the teachings nad get louder over the group of other Christians. They become the show. But they don't act threatened.
The one I dated was a devout "Christian" read scripture every morning and went to Church on Sundays etc. We split up and less than a week later she was engaged. When confronted she swore up and down that she wasn't seeing him while we were together and told me I needed to go to Church and find those missing pieces of myself. However, her now husband reached out and we found out she'd been seeing the both of us. It totally blew my mind as I had 100% trust in this woman and never thought her capable of such. Found out a bunch of other lies and other men she was talking to as well. She offered zero closure and never once actually admitted to cheating on me or offered a sincere truthful apology.

I had a similar experience. My ex, who shared the Gospel to me, and was a part of the worship team, sees himself as superior above everyone else in the team. He wouldn't listen to the sermons, and would always see the mistakes of every member of the worship team. He broke up with me with an excuse of wanting to make things right with God. The day after, he already found another girlfriend, and got engaged with her after a month. But I thanked God because He rescued me at the right time. Truly, God's timing is perfect, never early, never late.

Church leaders with this problem will prey on innocent people who simply want to love God and do right. It took me a long time to realize this, as I was one of their victims until I understood what was happening. I just did not know that it was called narcissism.
It is a painful irony to find some of the humblest, most sincere Christians in some of the most twisted churches, where the pastors and A-listers are arrogant, intolerant, vain people. I guess those people who really don’t have ego issues don’t even notice? But I would still like to see them in a healthier environment with more humane teaching and preaching.
@@elizabethl6187 Most who attend these churches do not notice. They genuinely seek to love and please God by living holy lives and are sensitive to their own failures. Most can't imagine that someone who pounds the pulpit about holy living can actually be manipulating them. I had my differences with leadership while in those churches, but constantly gave them the benefit of the doubt regarding their motives. However, as I became closer to leadership and their personal lives and attitudes I eventually got to the point where the double standards had too many exceptions and excuses. I did not know the term narcissist, but that is what I saw and had to leave those churches. In their minds I became a liberal, a dangerous free-thinker, but my desire to live right and pleasing to God is not what changed, I just refused to live a double life.

The Narcissist I'm dealing with believes he's the second coming of Christ. He's my former husband from a very long time ago. He believes he's wearing a crown that only some people can see. I'm his primary carer as a volunteer. When I first met him, I thought he was a very devout Christian Man, who knew Scripture very well. But it was all a front. I'd no sooner Married him than I found out he was a practicing homosexual, amongst other things. He talks of Godly things, but he's very cruel, underhanded and sly. And the list goes on. These people can reel others in with a seemingly devout Christian life. I'd not long come out of a Woman's Refuge when I rushed into Marrying him, after only 3 Months of knowing him. Looking back, I was on Prozac and very ill myself. I was scared of being on my own. And boy oh boy have I paid and paid for my mistake. I don't think anyone covers Narcissists with a Christ complex. It's the most extreme form of Narcissism.

My mother used to teach Sunday School. I was preparing to leave my husband, who was abusive and I told her that he punched me. My (narc) mother said "Well, he never did anything to me. I have nothing against him". I told her that was not Christian and that she was her own god. She gave me the silent treatment. The more abusive my husband got, the more she supported him.

I’m in the Christian faith and I woke up too and realized the same that the Pharisees sneak in because they want to play god by being the ones who teach about God, but they don’t authentically know God or follow His ways. It takes a lot of discernment to see because they say a lot of “good” things but they take the Bible out of context for their own gain. The difference is relationship vs religion. A religious spirit tries to worm its way into so many groups and gatherings no matter the faith. Satan was an Angel of light, he’s not anti-worship He’s anti-Christ and being Christ like.

Now im trying to find a new church but it honestly feels like lots of narcissists playing church. It’s very religious spirited. It’s about looks and image for a lot of people. I want to find genuine people to be equally yolked with but it’s hard. The Bible talks about in the end times there will be a mass falling away from the church. And I always interpreted that people were turning away from the faith. But I think it’s the Holy Spirit separating the sheep from the goats. The Pharisees were upset that Jesus was pulling people away from the temple. The veil was torn. You no longer needed to go there to have access to God. The Pharisees used to be able to feel like they were the gate keepers of God. They had the holiest of holies in the temple. But that was torn when Christ died and home churches started to form. Hoping I could find a great home church or eventually help start one myself.

Self correction is not narcissistic. Biggest test is empathy for other's suffering, including empathy for the suffering of jealous, sad, stressed, insecure, perpetually dissatisfied, angry, selfish narcissists and the demons that possessed them.

This is so true, I was praying on the couch one night reading the Bible from my tablet. He started an argument with me saying I was cheating. We had agreed we would pray, fast and go to church together, the church part was his idea. We did none of these things together, and all he did was try to point out my shortcomings. I've long believed, since some unpleasant encounters, that God created man in His image but a narcissist creates God into their image which is only an idol of self... Glad to see this belief reinforced almost verbatim here. 🙏
Narcissist pastors are often really cult leaders.
This is my family. They really make me crazy. They dont serve God, but their own ego. They are so negative. They gossip about a lot of people. My mother does not have a good bond with anyone and her son and my sister are the same. Everywhere they go they bring negativity. They really drain me and there where many times in my life were I did not want to live anymore, because they also isolate me and belittle me and twist the reality and that makes me doubt myself. The only warmth I feel is in the church when some members hug me and are nice to me. But at home I only feel coldness. And I am tired of begging for their love.
And they justify every wrong doing of theirs, but if they misunderstand someone they talk very hateful about the person. I really dont understand them and my head hurts always when I try to do it.
You may not realize how needy of true love, God’s love, they are. They are just going about gaining love all the wrong hurtful way. God has given far and away full proof of His great love for each person in the world, but only “whosoever will” receive it can experience it.
I thank God for your explanation of tragic narcissists relationships; and even breaking down your examples and speaking more on each situation would be even more helpful!

My heart breaks….what I thought was my last bastion of hope turned out to be one of these deceptive narcs standing behind the cross. I reached out to him for baptism and deliverance and in no time, after praying on it, he revealed himself as the narcissist that he is. Glory to God! ❤ He truly answers prayers!
The gem I've encountered with such individuals, or the flying monkeys that speak for them is 'they only need to ask for forgiveness if they have committed a sin'. It's hard to nail down their 'sin' with hard evidence with the hope they will take responsibility, accountability, show remorse and be repentant when the abuse is insidious. But John writes 'All wrongdoing is sin, ...' (1 John 5:17). Great video Shaneen. Love your work. 😊

Kudos to you, for repentance. I would be very interested to know how much of that was your environment, and how much was your own personality. Since pastors are generally unwilling to tackle this issue, you may have a valuable ministry in sharing your journey with others.
It seems like narcissists pass on their version of religion to their kids, and usually make it mandatory. Kids MUST put on a mask, MUST agree with every point of doctrine, MUST not trust or even listen to the Holy Spirit.
I have seen churches full of people who think that is doing church correctly.
Whenever we're angry. Narcissism is chronic anger (and suppressed guilt) that got demonised.

We have to be careful with how we view this. Yes, every human being at some point has had some narcissistic behaviors or characteristics.
BUT that is not the same as having NPD.
So You do not have the personality disorder that destroys lives mentioned in video.
The dangerous part can be when pastors will use that narrative to say things like… “It’s not a mental disorder it’s just the pride”.
So basically don’t hold me accountable or tell me I have a mental illness cuz I’m the pastor. And that’s where the problem is

If the greatest commandment is based on real love. And because a narcissist can never achieve such a thing, they end up relying and placing emphasis on dogmas and traditions.
So sad, this describes someone I love very much. I have been asking the Lord to help me understand how to even process what has been going on. They were not like this when they were young.

So, when she died a few minutes after a surgery and they brought her back to life, she spoke of it as if she were God and had made the decision to bring herself back to life. 🥳😂

I just left a church after 12 yrs because of the Narcissist Pastor.
He had pastored this chuch prior to me joining. Something happened and he had left. After we list our pastor of 10 yrs. He was rehired again. The church at this point has vety few people attending now. He has no empathy for families who have lost loved one. No counsel, no words of comfort. He is arrogant and gets rid of anyone on staff that ??'s his authority. God help the church.

Great video, just one point you referred to the religious narc as being arrogant, proud, well the pride and arrogance is another way that people make themselves enemies of God. James 4:6 God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Pride and arrogance brings resistance from the Most High God. Interesting that verse 7 says therefore submit yourselves to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. Without humility and submission no one can resist the devil. If anything he is attracted to those who share his nature and attitudes. I suspect that Satan is actually rather snuggly with the religious narc. Just some thoughts, could be helpful to someone. This is 100% my ex girlfriend, I do owe her for getting me saved, but wow, I realize now there is no way anyone is as perfect as she thinks she is. She is an expert at weaponizing scripture.

I am so thankful for my mom introducing me to Jesus, and just as thankful she was never forceful about it. She gave me the intro, but it was left to me if I wanted to pursue....
I knew a woman like this. She has a long list of exes. However, every last one of them is remarried, and the narcissists is alone. She still plays the victim in her stories that every last one of them were horrible to her. After getting to know her and hearing the stories as well as listening to her contradict herself constantly, I know she was the perpetrator, not the victim she claims to be.

Pastors tend to value the narcissists who serve them, so they never want to teach anything about their kinds of temptation and behavior.

Thank you so much for your lesson. I’m a practicing Catholic forced to sign a divorce as a father of 4 young children all under the age of 10 years old. My beautiful children are kNO.War full grown. My oldest sister fits into your profile of a Religious Narcissist. She recently decided to end the life of our mother (90) going on 91. My father past away several years ago. Mom gave birth to 8 children (4 girls/4 boys), and her first name is Mary. She was very prayerful, and had her own apartment and many friends at a large campus of housing for the elderly. My oldest sister is married to a Catholic farming family, and she was named executor of my mom’s affairs. I’m the oldest boy, and moved back home after my unwanted divorce. My oldest sister’s last name became King after her marriage. I don’t believe that my mom wanted to die, but my oldest sister decided to place her in her house and hospice. The whole family came to visit my mom as those people ended the earthly life of my mom. Mom died in January 2023. It’s hard for me to respect my oldest sister, and I’ve spent a lot of time in prayer 🙏 over this situation. I feel that my sister loved becoming the center of attention during a very difficult family matter. My sister’s life goes full speed ahead, and she’s constantly judging us 7 siblings. Where my mother (Mary) was the matriarch of the family, it’s NO.War Big Sister Kathy King. I can’t forgive her, and can only pray that she makes a Priestly confession about her decision regarding our blessed Mother.

The covert narc I was married to (didn't know he was a narc then) daily tried to push G-d of the throne in my heart and put himself there. I can't tell the number of times I had to tell him that he is not my G-d and will never be; his words do not and will not override reality; and I will serve Great I Am no matter what the majority thinks, says or does.
The narcisstic injuries were many...I had not ran into anyone before him who worked on a steady evil agenda daily...24 hours.

I remember as a kid being given a very abrasive lesson on skiing all work for the Lord: Dad taught me Col. 3:24 while working with me to put away dishes: he he was so utterly abrasive in his manner I felt like a cat having his nose rubbed in the litter box out of unshakable angry contempt for being ignorant about its proper use. I knew, in my heart, that I needed to learn to do all things for the Lord, and to not be selfish: but at the end of the lesson, though the verse and the act gave me a good clue as to what it was about, I still was clueless as to how to do all things for the Lord, and I had less motivation to learn because exposure to my father's contempt was so painful, and I couldn't even think about asking questions so I could understand even though I really did have a desire to do right in that matter and other matters too. I didn't know why I felt the way I felt, but figured it probably had to do with being an undisciplined child in my heart and my old nature. I didn't like how I felt, but I didn't want to be a rebel so I asked God to keep me from being bitter towards His Word over the incident as I feared that might be one of my greatest temptations.
One main reason I don't belong to any church is that I have been in 12 step groups for many years where the focus is on self honesty and rooting out one's character defects. Therefore, pastor or not, it's pretty easy to spot someone who's not working on their character defects, no matter how they attempt to present themselves. Paraphrasing Jesus ,"There is no one who is good, not one, except for our Father who is in Heaven".

Hi Shaneen I’d love to see a video on female covert religious narc …not sure if you’ve done that already …this female caught me in a trap for 20 plus years and their covert nature confused me almost to insanity and a mental hospital …I’ve been out for 5 years but only got the wisdom a years ago …she gave me no closure after the discard and threw me away like trash without remorse…it’s so baffling when they go to church more than I do
This is an amazing video, I truly appreciate that you have the insight to bring this about. I do agree this is a very serious issue. That said, I would like to say that in my experience, religious narcissism, which I believe is called religious OCD (or rOCD) in the DSM manual, can be had by anyone. As a priest, I have seen it among both laity and clergy and it does not cease to irritate me.
Religious OCD, or scrupulosity, is a very disabling form of OCD, obsessive compulsive disorder. There are many who suffer from this awful form of OCD, just like any other form of OCD. Having this disorder has nothing to do with being a narcissist. The two are not interchangeable, not one and the same. That would be like saying my friend who compulsively locks her doors due to her OCD, is a narcissist. Or my friend with religious OCD, who feels guilty all the time and compelled to pray three hours a day, is a narcissist. No. They are completely different terms, topics, and titles.
However, there are probably many narcissists who may happen to have some form of OCD, a mental disorder, including Religious OCD. Again that is a possibility but not a necessity. Nor must they by necessity concomitantly work together. So please do not make the mistake of placing additional harm, blame, or suffering on those who struggle with religious OCD by automatically labeling them as "narcissists". I have known at least two very kind and generous OCD sufferers, one with religious OCD.
Suffering with any mental disorder does not automatically make that person a narcissist. 🙏🙏🛐🛐🐕🐕
