  • The Soulen Family is synonymous with sheep grazing in the state of Idaho. Phil Soulen is the second generation who has expanded the family sheep operation to 47,000 acres of land in eight southwest Idaho counties, with 12,000 sheep and 1,800 beef cattle at the peak of operations.
Our story details what's involved in raising sheep by following the Soulens for a year. Their sheep winter in the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area, and then they follow the spring green up to their extensive Crane Creek range, and then the sheep summer in the Payette National Forest.
Our story also details the legacy that Phil Soulen has left behind as an excellent range manager but also has someone who gives back to his community and the University of Idaho.
