Do you think about what the welding spatter damages the bed stock of the lathe. Most of the machinists here put something to protect the machine when they weld while the work is on the lathe.
En todos los años de experiencia de un soldador jamas se puede o debe doldar encima de otra soldadura fracturada .no le puso un casquillo de refuerzo en la zona fatigada y despuez hacerle un recocido con enfriamiento al aceite .pesimo tra ajo y encima descentrado .tiempo perdido en manos inexpertas
I've noticed you guys seem to do a lot of electro arc welding directly on your procession lathe, which can severely shorten the life expectancy of the spindle bearings with cost a ton and have a very long lead time. you can do welding on the lathe if you must but attach good size conduct directly and solidly to the workpiece and attach it solidly to the welder ground. This prevents heavy welding current from flowing thru the small contact points of the precision polished balls or rollers between the inner and outer bearing races, the current flow causes an etching effect to the precision surfaces of the races. I thought this may help someone if they are not aware of this.
by inserting the weld mass into the spindle hole no welding current will flow to the bearing.. we have been doing this for decades and the lathe remains safe
@@Yantoo Tell me then how the welding circuit finds its way back to the welder machine ground then? I had a client the picked up a huge component with an overhead electric traveling crane. The crane would move the component to the next work station where several other subcomponents were welded on with the component hanging on the crane hook but setting on the ground. My company was hired to do the maintenance on his cranes and we constantly had to replace Timken bridge wheel bearings on only 2 of his 4 bridge cranes, after accusing me of installing Chinese bearings and charging him for Timken Bearings made in the USA. I sent a replaced bad bearing set to the Timken lab to be analyzed. The report I got back from Timken basically stated what I said in my first comment about the rolls and inner and outer races, I investigate the production process movement and found that yes, the company was welding with the component hanging on the crane hook and the welding circuit was finding its grounding path thru the crane structure to the building thru the Timken bearings in the crane wheels. After directly connecting ground the component before welding put an end to wheel bearing replacement every year or so, I lost $$$ on the amount of work We were doing for this client but gained a customer for life. I was not criticizing you but giving you information for free that cost my client thousands of US dollars to gain. It's your call.

If i tried to weld in a lathe in my employment , i would be dismissed from my job. Welding in a lathe will cause damage to bearings and machine slideways.
I was taught this by my teacher.. during the welding period through the apindel hole, the bearing remains safe.. this machine has been used for decades and the bearing has never been damaged
Yes john he is right it doesn't harm machine bearing but slides will be damaged soon if he will not cover it by some shit of metal i am from india and i have much working skill from him. I will soon start my own auto repaire youtube channel
I agree. I doubt if his welds had good penetration. Tapering the corners as well as inspecting for other micro cracks and then grinding and welding is the way to go.
Since you understand, then why are your work area in such a mess, i would think such a talented guy would have pride in a clean well organized workplace, and a well kept machine
