CotP has more gloss effects which helps accentuate the fact Transformers are made of metal. You see it a little in this ep with Grimlock Also a lot of shots are dynamically drawn in CotP, like posterworthy. Good example is when the Dinobots start their ambush. This one here is just a decently done regular ep, with an above average story.
Ironhide would have probably toughened up rodimus and got him out of his emo I can see a lot of the 84 bots saying our new leader is acting like a thot
Cracking animation quality, Kup's toy colours, and one of the very few instances of Grimlock's robot mode in S3...makes you wonder what the rest of the season and S4 would have looked like if TOEI took the reins instead of AKOM.
I don't blame Chaos for being grumpy; they are literally digging into his home and stealing parts of him. If that happened to me I'd be in a foul mood too.
I love this episode, and I super-love Grimlock here. The transitions between Kup's storytelling in the past and his stance when back in the present is awesome. The big baddie Chaos was a letdown. All it does is stomp on the ground, stand there, growl, take swipes at Kup and chase after him.
Chaos looks like a Green Space Godzilla version of Metlar from Inhumanoids. I wonder if Chaos has any relation to them since they are both Hasbro and Sunbow.
A few outdated character models show up in some random episodes, but i think this was the only time it was actually intentional. The young version of Kup seen in this episode was based on Floro Dery's original design for the character, which is what his G1 toy was based on.

Yeah, I found that strange. I thought Galvatron and the Decepticons wanted to reconquer Cybertron, not destroy it. Sure, Galvatron's nuts but you think he'd aim for Earth instead to eliminate Humanity and with it, one of the Autobot's key allies.
Even Cobra Commander attempted to blow up Earth with the Mass device when things didn’t go his way. Let’s not also not forget Rodimus blowing up Sandstorm’s planet after saving everyone. That was so random and extreme. 😳
Sergeant Kup should have became the new Autobot leader instead of Rodimus Prime because he's one of the oldest Autobots, he was at least a war hero, and he even managed to vanquish an alien monster in this episode
Close so close. There was a new Thundercats cartoon and toy line in the early 2000s. It was pretty bad ass, but eventually dropped after some Lego toy deal didn’t solidify. There should be some clips on yet and full episodes on prime. The early 2000s He-Man was awesome, too. There was a build up for a great three way war with Hordak, Skulletor and King Hiss that never took place during the end of the series. The figures were updated nicely and bad ass, too. 😭
I don't think the 84 autobots would have tolerated blurr, and wheelie I can see Ironhide and brawn telling him to shut up and knocking him out Ratchet would have took blurr offline Ironhide problsy wouldn't of followed rodimus if he survived
6:04 - It was always going to be too expensive to give Blurr the same 'echo' effect he had in the Movie, but it was nice to see it here at least for a sec.

It's one of, if not the most beautifully animated episodes in the entire series and has a great story but hardly gets a mention from the fan base..much better than COTP animation imo.

What was so awesome about Kup. He was a season warrior who saw so much. Many times he made mistakes but here he got to correct one. Freed the slaves he wasn’t able to centuries ago and finally took out chaos.
I accidentally taped only the first half of this episode from the 80s so have only seen the first half of this episode until blurr gets stuck in the mud...the year is 2023 and i have just watched the whole episode for the first time....i got chills...this was one of the best transformers episodes i have seen
is it strange that the Decepticons seem to be way less of a threat in Season 3 then they have been in the past 2 seasons? they were always trying to steal resources to one up the Autobots now their just trying to make these strange weapons and focus on survival.
I think it was because they were defeated on Earth and after Unicron (The Movie) they fled Cybertron to Chaar which was another great defeat. Having an insane leader didn't help either, Galvatron was nuts compared to his Megatron persona.

The Decepticons resorted to making superweapons to gain an edge over the Autobots as they were at a big disadvantage after the movie in numbers so they resorted to desperate means to win and even survive. It's sort of like how late in WW2, the Germans desperately resorted to using fancy superweapons like V1/V2 rockets and advanced experimental tanks to try to hold off the Allied armies which of course failed.

Toei worked on a couple of episodes on Season 3 which is why some episodes look better than the rest

Blurr has some of the best moments in this episode. But I love how this is a solid episode revolving around Kup overcoming the demon from his past.
