    I have been using these techniques for almost a year now. I’m really happy with it personally, but there’s more: My teeth were generally fine and white even before this technique, but I guess they got even whiter somehow so much so that they made two of my long-time careful friends point it out with amazement. Thank you Ms Hygienist!

    Thank You for these videos. I am embarrassed to say I am 57 and I’ve never been shown person to person how to do this. I am going to show these to my 18 year old because I have showed her my way her whole life. Thank You!

    Thanks for these videos. I really enjoy the format you employ of speaking, writing, drawing and demonstrating. The drawings really illustrate your points clearly.
    Do you ever use a hard toothbrush, even occasionally?

    • @askahygienist
      @askahygienist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! As for your question about the hard bristled brush: never never ever. Like, “Never have I ever” never lol. There is no need, it incurs more damage than good, and soft bristled can do the same job but stay gentle enough not to damage gums/enamel.

    Just a couple of qeustions I have been wondering about.
    Most floss after brushing. But would it be better to clean the surfaces between the teeth before applying the fluoride or doesnt it make any difference?
    Also, isnt there a risk of pushing some of the plaque down/up in the pockets between the teeth and thereby risking paradentosis? Would a toothpick be safer?
    Thanks.

      @askahygienist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great questions! Although I don’t think there is specific research supporting one way or the other in terms of flossing before/after brushing, but I personally floss before precisely for the reason you mentioned. As to your second q, a toothpick would definitely not be better than floss. Our pockets secrete crevicular fluid that helps flush minor buildup out, so by flossing the majority, any tiny particles left over are taken care of by our body. Plus when I floss I don’t just run up and down, I slide the floss out when I’m at the depth of the pocket to guide the plaque out instead of jamming it up into the gums. A toothpick will not wipe the entire tooth surface as floss would, so plaque would build up and turn to calculus aka tartar, and THAT would cause periodontal disease. Hope this helps!

      @@askahygienist thank you for your good answer. Didnt know about that crevicular fluid.

    What if you bleed sometimes when you floss ? Is that okay ?

    • @askahygienist
      @askahygienist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Allison Flores hmm that depends. If “sometimes” then maybe you are flossing too aggressively and cutting the gums, or maybe you ate a chip and jammed it in one spot for example, so when you floss there it could bleed for a couple days. But typically if you are flossing correctly and getting bleeding, it means there is something stuck under the gums (plaque or tartar) and when you touch it with floss, it’s like touching a sliver in your finger, it can be tender and bleed. Generally speaking, healthy gums should not bleed.

    About brushing the tongue. What about brushing the bottom side of the tongue?

    • @askahygienist
      @askahygienist  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t. The type of tissue on the bottom side of the tongue does not accumulate bacteria like the top of tongue and tooth surfaces do.

    Is it better to floss before or after brushing or does it not matter?

    • @askahygienist
      @askahygienist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I prefer to floss before. That way you get the gunk out from between your teeth and then the toothpaste can foam up and reach into the nooks and crannies which are now free of debris.

    • @askahygienist
      @askahygienist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, someone just asked this on another video! Here’s what I said:
      If you are also brushing and flossing in the evening before bed, It doesn’t matter too much the order at breakfast time. If your breakfast is very acidic and sugary, perhaps brushing after may be better but in one day it’s not going to change much if you will clean your teeth end of day :)
