- Hi, I'm Ryan from Ooznest and today I'll be showing you how to safely surface your spoiler board which allows you to re-use it time and time again.

If I position the spoiler board in the lower position can I use 2 layers of mdf when cutting thin material (to reduce the travel of the z axis)?
Yes that would be fine
Hi Ryan,
I've just finished constructing my 1000x1000 work bee and I'm looking at surfacing the spoiler board using the Vectric software I also purchased. You also supplied an Amana Tool 1-1/8" surfacing bit. I've looked at the Vectric faqs and it recommends adding it to their tool database as an Endmill. However it's a little vague as to what Cutting parameters and feeds&speeds to use. could you give us some guidance?
I'm after Pass depth, Stepover and percentage, Spindle speed (I think it's 18000), Chip load ( I think it 0.004 inches), feed rate and plunge rate.
Thanks in advance.
Keep up the great work
Hi Craig, the dimensions you need to add into Vectric can be found on the table on this page here: ooznest.co.uk/product/amana-end-mill-surfacing-3-flute-1-1-8/
If your spoilerboard is MDF 1mm pass depth, 2500mm/min, 40% stepover, 18kRPM would work well. Plunge normally you would set to half your feedrate. Chipload is just calculated automatically from the other settings. Just make sure it is less than what is in this table: ooznest.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Carbide-Tipped-Spoilboard-3-4-Wing-Speed-Chart-v2.pdf
Thanks!
Hi Ryan, Im surfacing our spoiler board as we speak, I have a 1 inch surfacing bit - what speed y-x axis speed do you recommend? our dewalt is set to speed 1 (16000 rpm). It takes quite some time at the moment with the basic settings for travel speed.
Hi, i would recommend a starting speed of around 1200mm/min.
Hi Ryan
please can you advise of the supplier and part number of the inserts for the spoiler board
Thank you
Ian
Hi Ian, we have no recommended supplier, you should be able to get suitable M5 ones from eBay. That would be your best best. Thanks
Isent it better to make the spoilerboard smaller than your Workbee's dimensions? Right now you cant put anything on the spoilerboard, that is bigger than the spoilerboard. But the non surfaced part of the spoilerboard dont grant any advantage at all. Or does it?
Its really down to personal preference, if you cut pieces around the same size as the spoilerboard its nice to have a bigger board to fix the clamps
That’s Nuts!!!! Oh I mean bolts 😂😂👍👍
What do you suggest as the spoiler board for the 1500 mm x 1500 mm Workbee? That's larger than the width of a 4 foot MDF sheet.
Hi Brian! We use an MDF Spoilerboard of 12mm - you can find the sizes here (learn.ooznest.co.uk/Wiki/Critical_Machine_Dimensions)
@@ooznest Hi guys, I understand that, but the size of the spoiler board specified - 1370 x 1500mm - is larger than the dimensions of a 2440 x 1220 mm MDF sheet.
@@baza210 You can use a push-through method on the machine to cut larger sheets, which means you would be able to register a job in two parts, cut one half and then manually push the material through to locate the XYZ again to continue the cut on the other half. We have a TH-cam video which explains the process: th-cam.com/video/JKyiKZrLPqA/w-d-xo.html. Hope this answers your question :)
@@ooznest sorry, I'm not talking about the workpiece but the spoiler board itself. a 1500mm workbee's spoiler board dimensions are 1370 x 1500mm, which does not fit into a 1220 x 2440 mm sheet, so how am i supposed to make a spoiler board? can i use two pieces of MDF? can i use a smaller spoiler board than that, eg 1220 x 1500?
@@baza210 Thanks for your comment. So you would either need to use a 5ft x 10ft sheet, or make the spoilerboard out of two pieces.
in the video you mention that files for the board are below but i cant find them?
Hi Zac, apologies this has now been taken down as they were out of date. Sorry about this, but feel free to email us at sales@ooznest.co.uk with any more queries.
What is the size if that cnc?
It is a 750x750mm
Is it enough size for guitar works?
@@tarsiousmunalembohol Yeah could be, we do offer bigger sizes.
Love the way he says "Dee Walt". Means business.
is that a 7575?
Hi, yes that is correct.
80% stepover, 800 mm/min, approx 20000 rpm, 2.5 on the Dewalt
