I thought the same for myself for years, I had even bought a midi keyboard but still told myself I couldn't do it. This past summer I said screw it and tried anyway, and in just a month or so I can tell I've seriously improved. It requires some grit but is definitely possible. Probably not what you want to hear, but being willing to just give it a try and keep at it is the best way to improve.
