I’ve had a 321 Calibre and have worn it daily for 50 years, including USAF combat missions during Vietnam. It started to loose accuracy about a year ago. It kept getting worse and have had to have it serviced for the first time. Great watch!
Hi Alan that information would make a great upload. If you ever wanted to make one about your speedmaster or maybe capturing that story in an interview I would love to create a video around it. Do you have any photos of the watch during your service in the air force? You can contact me at thecasualwatchreviewer@gmail.com
My Dad bought his when he was in the USAF also at the BX at RAF Bentwaters, I believe as it could have been Mildenhall or Lakenheath, in 1976. He gave it to me after he retired in 1992. I wear it daily. It's only been back to Omega in Switzerland once in 1996 for cleaning and servicing. I'm still using the original 1171/633 bracelet. It's starting to lose about 30 seconds a day now, but my local Omega dealer has quoted anywhere from 6 months to full year for Omega Switzerland to do services because of backlog. I just can't bear to be without it for that long. In 1996, the three month wait was too long.
Hands down the best review of this watch I have seen Omega should pay you as I think any viewer close to buying this would go ahead with a purchase after seeing this
+John Smith thanks for the great comment, if Omega happen to watch this I'm open to offers! Thanks for watching, I really do love the speedmaster so I had to let it out!
was at Goldsmiths and this lady at the counter told me that she once had a customer who wanted to get his Omega serviced. The guy purchased the Omega around 40 years ago and was never serviced and was still running perfectly. It's a classic
Hi Syed, well mine is half way there without a service. But I don't think I will leave it that long to get it done! The Speedmaster is still my most accurate watch I think. Thanks for commenting.
+Watch Geek thank you and thanks for watching. That paperclip has held strong for like 4 years nearly. I wear mainly on a NATO now but I wore it on the bracelet for a long time with the paperclip on place.
Oh great, well your going to be very happy with it. I'm going to be doing another video on 'Mood watches' this weekend or next. focusing on the Omega and a few others. I set up a Facebook group also facebook.com/thecasualwatchreviewer/ maybe put a picture of your new watch on!
The Speedmaster moon watch FOIS is my ultimate Grail piece. I'm a child of the early 70s and grew up watching the Apollo space program so that watch has a special connection to those times in my childhood that filled me with perfect wonder. It's a perfect all around watch. Dressed up or down, it's all good. Thanks for this video
Hey Robert, thanks for commenting again. Yes its been a long time coming that video. I wanted to do the watch justice, I didn't realize it had been 10 years since I bought it.
I really like your video. I think that the stories in the comments of Speedmaster videos are even better. I love hearing about people who have worn their Speedmaster for decades and all their great memories with the watch. I dream of owning one but unfortunately they’re out of my budget as I’m 23 and currently investing all my money in my new business. I really love the community that has formed around this legendary watch. All the best from Bulgaria!
I bought my Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch via eBay in 2009. The original owner bought in new in 2000 and reportedly left in in the safe most of the time. Thank goodness he saved the box, papers and extra links, as my wrist is bigger than his. I too kept it mostly in a safe until 2016 or so when I began wearing it to work every day. It needs a service, has a few scratches especially on the clasp, but is in otherwise lovely shape. This was my dream watch, and I feel blessed to have it! Great video, thanks for sharing!
Yep that was a true tool watch, it looks pretty now but it has been through many of life's adventures. I remember the first time I learned it only had 30 metres water resistance. I just thought back of being in the wave pool at a Disneyworld waterpark years before giving the water resistance no mind... ooops!
Great watch and review, Sir! Another US-based north-English expat checking in wearing my beloved Apollo XI 30th Anniversary Speedy that I bought new in 1999. The Speedmaster is a truly iconic watch that has earned its place in horological history!
It makes me really happy to see one of these used like this. Every time I buy a nice watch, I'm immensely paranoid to damage it and obsess over little scuffs and such. That's why I only buy used watches, so that helps me avoid the dread of the first bit of damage, haha. I had a speedy reduced (still do, but it's in for service) and wanted a moonwatch for a while, but the price was always a bit much, and I thought perhaps it would be too big for my wrist - but I finally picked up up and I'm really glad I did. Folks that say it wears big are not really correct, even on my smallish wrists it wears really nicely. The only problem I have with the watch is that it's a pain to wind since the crown is hard to access. So far, winding upside down seems to work well.
None hacking movement. Poor water proofing. Not antimagnetic. Low quality lume. No fine adjustment on bracelet. Overpriced. That said it's a classic and I want one Great review of an iconic watch.
The Casual Watch Reviewer thank you, it really was an excellent reveiw. So much so I went out today and bought one! It doesn't quite have the top end feel that my smp bond has, but it's such an iconic piece and sits beautifully on the wrist. Many thanks for the kind reply. Best wishes
I can't agree with you on the lume. My speedy pro is a newer model made last year and the lume is great imo. They are trying to continue making them as per the original specs - not updating them to be the most modern materials, movements, etc. That's the whole point in buying the pro - you get close to the ones worn in space. Otherwise, why buy the pro? I never wore mine on the bracelet - swapped it for a black nato with silver stripes and it looks excellent.
Yes it was a bit alternative, but the pin was very similar to a paperclip. I wear it mostly on a Nato now anyway so I may get it fixed one day. Thanks for watching!
The Casual Watch Reviewer I bought a cheap watch just to "break" it for it's metal pins.. Use that method if your paperclip ever fails. It's just a piece of metal after all
The Speedmaster Professional is my daily watch and I love it. I just have the "normal" modern version. The hesalite front and display caseback that you have is the ultimate Speedmaster to me. Best of both worlds. I hate that when buying new, you are forced to decide between the hesalite or the open caseback.
Great video !!! I've owned my Speedmaster Professional for 24 years...and I'm still in love with it ! Mine doesn't have the open back...but, like yours, it features the Hesalite crystal. I've serviced it twice and it has never given any problems...just great pleasure ! Wear yours in good health...classic watch ! Peace
Alexandre... I couldn't agree more. It is one of the true keepers in my collection. And I am negotiating getting it serviced sooner rather than later. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great story about the history of your speedy and you can really tell how much you love this watch from the enthusiasm in your voice. After 10 years I suspect its going to be a keeper for you? I have the newer version with the presentation box(more like a suitcase actually😆) I was born in 1969 so like many of this era I was also captivated my nasa's space projects as a kid. The number of the calibre 1861 also has a special connection to me so the watch is a lifetime keeper which will be passed on to my son....lucky lad!! I don't wear it every day but I don't just wear it on special occasions either and it looks great on any strap which you can't say about many watches. It trumps the submariner in that respect and has a more iconic history imo. In the world of watch keeping it's the thinking mans Grail. Take care, Andy.
Hi Andy, thanks so much for commenting. I really like that suitcase box the watch now comes in. I even thought about buying just the box but I couldn't justify it. Yes I will keep this watch, I think you are right about the Rolex. The Speedmaster is also less common, by that I mean you don't see many in the wild!
Oh man, a paper clip and glue, you should of took it to a watch repair shop as omega will always charge over the top prices. I have this watch and absolutely love it, great review 👌
Hey, thanks for commenting. I did intend to but then the local watch maker also said its an entire new clasp. So I gave up and made do. Its lasted like that for at least 4 years. Plus my clasp has a lot of scars from a life well loved so I wanted to keep it.
Great review. I'm astonished how easily scratches can be removed from the hesalite crystal with even as something as simple as toothpaste. I'm about 3 months into owning mine and cant take it off. Such a classic, non showy, timepiece. Love how it feels on my wrist and so much history behind it.
Hi Travis, as you can tell from this video I'm a massive fan also. I have even used metal polish to get rid of the scratches on mine, being very careful not to polish off any of the case. Thanks for sharing and heres to your first ten years with yours.
+evvignes Thanks for the comment, yep you are probably right. Hopefully it has gone up in value but its still a keeper. Some of the scars are from me but it tells a story and I like it all the more for them. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I've had mine for 23 years and I've never had it serviced. Omega says that it should be serviced every 5-8 years but instead I followed the rule "If it isn't broken don't fix it". My local dealer says that sooner or later it will break down and in the end it will cost me a fortune. The fact is that up to now I've saved 2760 euros (In Italy Omega charges 690 Euros to have a mechanical chronograph serviced). I really don't Know what to do. Any advice?
Well, I had mine for 11 yeas and I'm fairly sure it was never serviced before I had it. Mine is from 1996 ish. My advice (and I'm no expert) would be to watch the follow up to this as I share my experiences getting it serviced th-cam.com/video/QHZ6zfdFKCA/w-d-xo.html
Great to hear the story of your speedy, it’s not a reference I was aware of, I always assumed the sapphire case back was a fairly new addition I like the fact you wear it daily and still love it . It sounds like you have a really honest well trained and well priced service center in the US. Incredible bargain purchase price 👍
Hi Marcus, thanks for commenting. I just did a follow-up upload on this watch after having it serviced by Omega, you may enjoy that one also th-cam.com/video/QHZ6zfdFKCA/w-d-xo.html
One thing I would like to hear more about in videos from the watch community, is the experiences of budgeting and decision making before making a purchase. I don't consider myself a person of limited means, but purchasing a watch for a collection can certainly weigh heavily on my financial conscience. How many time telling devices does one need? I think the mantra of slow and steady should be pushed out there a bit more as well. All of the watch porn on TH-cam has given me dopamine dysfunction, lol.
Hey Collin, you know what that is a great idea for a video. And something I’m wresting with now actually. I want another luxury watch as I have been reviewing a lot of excellent but mid range watches.
Love it. These cost about the same as Monaco and a little more than the autavia then you see the fools price of a daytona. Nuff said. Love the simplistic look of the speed master. I have the autavia about the same age as yours, the Monaco is just a bit ott unless you're Steve mcqueen, never had a thing done to it ever. I doubt if the mecha quartz look alikes will even make 10 months. Excellent post.
It all boils down to the fact that you still love the watch ten years later. I've been bouncing back and forth between one of these (probably sapphire but still mulling it) and an El Primero ... thinking whether to go with the herd or not. I do feel that a chrono ought to have some horology vibe, and other than these two it's mainly all brought-in Valjoux 7750's ... or drop the price of a new Camry. I would definitely buy a Lange before I'd buy a Camry, but that's beside the point. Does anyone know if the sapphire sandwich crystal can be swapped out for hesalite, or vice versa? I think I'll end up with MOTFM, and it surely won't be for lack of having considered the alternatives. The way you still feel about it, ten years on ... that's the piece that sticks for me ... cheers.
@@CasualWatchReviews it's not supposed to be like that. In fact, it doesn't really matter if the logo is a bit rotated, it's just a matter of cosmetic appearance.
As a fellow 3572 owner, i think if omega doesn't make a hesalite front/sapphire back speedy anymore, the 3572/3592 will probably be a very collectible modern speedy in the future.
I've owned my reduced version since 2003, bought it brand new, just had it serviced this year and still the most accurate mechanical piece I own, great review ⌚⌚⌚⌚
Thanks for commenting. Yes I think they are the most accurate mechanical watches, at least in my experience. So you have had yours a few years longer, glad to hear you still love it.
My Speedmaster Professional is a 1969 model with the 861 Lemania Calibre. It is my favorite watch I've ever owned, but it is not as good as keeping time as you describe. I've had it serviced twice, for maintenance purposes, since 1969 by Omega, but it's only accurate to about a minute every week or so. I don't care because I constantly hack the time to the iPhone satellite clock, which is basically an atomic clock, during my winding ritual. BTW, the watch is easily "hackable". See my comment on how to do this Omega approved procedure below in response to someone who said the watch can't be hacked. It's very easy to do. Of course, I had to buy the Bulova "David Scott" Apollo 15 "replica" simply because it is the only other "moon watch" worn on the moon. The Bulova is accurate to about one second per every 3 months, in my experience. The Bulova has a 262 kHz timing crystal known as the "precisionist" movement. I paid about $375 for it new almost two years ago when it first came out. It's a little too large, IMHO, but for the money, you can't get a more accurate watch that can also be called a "moon watch". However, there is no comparison between the Bulova and the Speedmaster for quality and historic value. I love my 1969 pre-Apollo 11 Speedy. When I got it as a BD gift, I never would have guessed it would go on to have such a reputation. It was slightly large for it's time back in the late sixties, and many people pointed out that "my watch stopped working" because of the sweep second hand on the Chronograph was usually in the vertical position. Wow, I was a teenager with a Speedy back in the day and never knew that what I was wearing would someday become a classic. Yeah, I have a few bragging rights here, but who wouldn't take advantage of them?
daffidavit indeed you do have bragging rights, I bought one the new Accutrons with the precisionist movement , I have the Alpha model, great watch but not as precise as an original, although the old ones drain the battery way to fast. This was good, I you pass your watches on to someone who shares the passion!
Great review! I have the same version except I guess mine was a bit later as it has the push button bracelet. Even after owning my first Daytona there is something cool about a Speedy, I may always have to have one in my collection. After watching this video I believe I will wear mine tomorrow.
Hi Mark, thanks for commenting. That is really cool that you have owned both a speedmaster and a Daytona. So are we going to start a Speedy Friday thing!
Might have to do that! Something else you made comment on in the video. There is not another watch I have ever owned that works on any bracelet/strap you throw at it. I haven't had the bracelet on mine for years because swapping straps is too much fun because they all look good.
I’ve just purchased the “Sapphire Sandwich “ & absolutely love it....I’ve read mixed opinions on whether you should run the chronograph seconds hand all the time? I’d prefer that but it may cause premature wear on the movement?
Yep I have heard that but I don’t know how true it is honestly the small seconds look cool on this one so i bet you will maybe just run the chrono for a bit but just use the small seconds. It doesnt hack so your small seconds and chrono will be off the exact time
Did you ever notice the the hour markers and the minute markers don’t line up when using the chrono? Apparently it’s quite common and acceptable. I’ve only just noticed this and it’s made me think twice about my purchase ☹️
I was about to do the same with my vintage Datejust, the paper clip fix hahaha but i got it fixed for 30 dollars and they even gave me warranty on the pin!
HI Juan, thanks for commenting. That was a great deal you got on the repair then. It is weird but on my omega bracelet that pin was exactly paperclip sized, I mean the paperclip just fit. was it the same with your watch?
I'm about to get this same model. How does the bracelet work with the watch? Will the ease of opening it differ from the ones with the pushers? Thanks!
Hey Ed, it is different. It uses friction to close but once you get used to it, not bad at all. In fact I can’t remember if I have reviewed a speed master with the pusher clasp... maybe the speed master reduced I looked at?
I have a 2002 Speed-Master triple date, smaller size, 38mm, love the watch, love the bracelet especially although changing links is a task. Overall, great watch keeps time to within two seconds per day. That Speed-Master has gotten notice, and several people recognized it for what it is. My Rolex Daytona, no one has ever noticed enough to comment as well as my Rolex Sea-Dweller. My daughter wore the Sea-Dweller, and some guy commented that it was a very nice watch, but I asked her if he knew it was a Rolex, she said no.
Hi Rynr, thanks for watching and commenting. I'm a big fan of the speedmaster as you can tell from the video. Its funny what you say about watches not getting noticed. I tell this to to other people that rarely would some one notice your watch. What is annoying for me is I have been wearing an Invicta for an upcoming video I'm doing and that gets noticed more than any of my other watches.
Well it was not very accurate at that point but take a look at the updated version of this upload where I had it serviced I think you will find it very interesting if you liked this one!
Great to get an honest real life long term review! Glad Omega quality has been up in the last 10 yrs then. The handwinding professional is the "purest" Speedy really. Still its shocking how unreliable many supposedly "premium" Swiss watch brands are (I've had a few). When they changed their industry into a "luxury" business in the 90's and early 2000's quality simply was not on par with the price tag, but I guess that was the price to pay after years of cutbacks and the fact that very few of the famous brands have anything in common to what and who they were at their hight in the 60's and early 70's.
Yes, I can see your point there. Omega certainly was more of a dress watch company back then or should I saw a 'watch' company but what we would consider a dress watch now!
Hesalite wll scratch from the friction of your coat or shirt cuff. Its a very soft material in terms of scratching. If your at all concerned about scratching the crystal its not the material you want to look for. The scratches can be polished out very easily however and you get used to it. I would never buy a watch with Hesalite again.
The Casual Watch Reviewer the first one I had it was pointed like 11:00 & 5:00, the second a solid backwards c like yours. Both from authorized dealer sealed in box and red paint dot on case back intact.
They didn't sell too well - the people who wanted the "true Speedmaster" bought Hesalite/solid and those who were concerned about durability bought the sapphire sandwich. It was a limited run from 1992 to 2002 (correct me if I'm wrong).
The Casual Watch Reviewer Very good review brother. You are doing awesome. Best advice I can give is take your time and have fun. You can burn out Fast.!
Will do thanks for the advice, just watched your Hamilton video of the event you went to, fantastic! I love the Hamilton brand one of the best, that pan-europ you filmed is high on my list.
The Casual Watch Reviewer I can't agree more. And thank you. I want the pan europ also, but I just bought the Flintridge. Can't wait to get it. Love your vids brother!
Hi Peter, yes thanks, my main concern is with fingerprints. Filming in either 1080p or 4k they are so obvious. I have wasted a lot of time and footage on fingerprints! Thanks for commenting and watching!
Thnaks Mark and thnaks for watching. I probably need to do a follow up on this one... maybe a 12 years on the wrist. Doesn't have the same ring to it but I have improved my style, cameras and lighting since then!
With an old warranty card as yours and the old clasp, the watch was probably already 10 years old, the day you bought it! I have a 2001 with new cards and clasp!
+Patrick Ickxs Hey Patrick, yes your right, I purchased it secondhand and from my research it is between 1992 and 1996 I think. Still never been serviced and going strong!
The Casual Watch Reviewer I am quite reluctant to buy secondhand... How can I justify taking a chance for several thousand dollar with no real guarantee? Do you have tips?
I would say to look for a reputable seller, I got mine on ebay and if you pay via paypal you do have a lot of protections. Also the speedmaster is a very hard watch to Fake, thats why you hardly ever see them. Its not like a Rolex that everyone is fighting to copy. Also there are that many variations of it you can find one you really like. I can guarantee with exceptions of the watch forums you will never see them out in the wild, thats what makes them so great. You can also get the serial number verified by Omega by emailing them. I thought they had stopped doing that but another viewer said he was successful recently.
+Nick G yep I thought of that scene in Apollo 13 where they had all the stuff they had in the capsule to fix it! I had 1 paper clip some super glue and the determination not to pay Omega £100 for a new clasp!
Hi Andrew, thanks so much. Yes I really do love this watch, it one of the keepers in the collection. Yes its a bit odd having the Hesalite on the front and i used to honestly not understand it. But I think it makes it unique and i learned to love it!
I have 47 years on the wrist with my Speedmaster. Spent a fortune keeping it running but will be buried with it fully wound just before they close the lid.
I have an original Speedmaster supposedly pulled from the line that was destined to nasa my Fathers girlfriend worked for omega . My father wore it everyday for years and I always loved it when I got my pilots license in 2000 he gave it to me after he had the entire watch refurbished by omega it looks brand new. Too me it’s actually too expensive to wear on a daily basis so I will only wear it when I look to “impress” my fellow pilots at some sort of event my daily watch is actually a Casio AMW-320 (LOL) I know a Casio but my I can’t risk damaging it or losing the omega
I don't think there is a set amount, but you will know when its wound. There is resistance when its fully wound. not like an automatic that you can just wind and wind. When I'm consistently wearing mine I just give it a few turns when I remember, usually when I'm on the phone at work!
Hi Arif, I think I show a lot of the scratches in the video actually? Also I change the strap frequently, the NATO has not been on it for that long. In fact it has mostly been kept on the metal strap, the one I talk about breaking. I think you should be able to clearly see the scratches in the hesalite I also talk about damaging that. Did you watch the video all the way through? Also I didn't get the original box.
I bought my Omega Speedmaster around 1990 on ebay from a Japanese seller, shipped to California. It is the older version with the closed back FLIGHT QUALIFIED BY NASA FOR ALL SPACE MISSIONS etc with the Omega horse engraving., Around 2000 I suspected that it was slowing down, losing about 30 sec per day and I was going to get it serviced. I couldn't justify the $500 service from a private non Omega certified service person so I put it away. I suspected that I got it too close to a high field 400MHz nmr magnet pole and magnetized it. Recently I took it out of storage to check it and the accuracy seemed pretty good maybe 5 sec slow per day so I started wearing it again. I need to add a link to the bracelet and it has the non screwable connectors for the links. I heard that Omega shops will add links for free so I am going to see if that is true since I have spare links that came with the watch. Maybe the shop can also check the accuracy on their instrument if they have one also for a fee.
Thanks Min, it saved me $125 and that many people comment on it on this upload that the engagement stays really high! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video mate, please goto a watch hospital at very least and get the pin replaced as paper clips are mild steel (imagine if it came off and you didn't notice). As for your stainless steel buckle, get a plastic kitchen pad scrubber, non metallic. Under running water keep on rubbing in the brushed direction. This gives it a near factory finish. My 300M has been worn daily for 11 years and my jewellers (beaver Brooke's and goldsmiths) said it was in fantastic condition.
Hey, thanks for the advice on the buckle polishing... I will give that a go! as for the paperclip, I will never change it... its part of the watches history now and made for a great story... also its superglued in!
I just recently sold this watch, find out all about it here th-cam.com/video/2RW3DVSNZlE/w-d-xo.html
I have had my Omega speedmaster for 43 years ( buying it new in 1975). I have it worn every day, and in that time it has not let me down once.
Oh awesome, how often do you have it serviced... or do you?
Have had mine since 1978. Never been serviced and still running strong!
Hi Scott! thanks fo sharing that... so I have a few more years before I need to worry about it!
Scott Sterry almost 40 years without a service! What's the time keeping like. Very curious. Thanks. John.
Wow.. this is something really cool to hear about.
Things I love in life. 1. My daughter. 2. Omega Speedmaster. 3. My wife
Dan, you are a brave... brave man!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Lol. Speedmaster rank 2nd. Wify 3rd. 🤣
Real shit
Mate, don't tell that you are putting that in order 😂😂😂😂
I’ve had a 321 Calibre and have worn it daily for 50 years, including USAF combat missions during Vietnam. It started to loose accuracy about a year ago. It kept getting worse and have had to have it serviced for the first time. Great watch!
Hi Alan that information would make a great upload. If you ever wanted to make one about your speedmaster or maybe capturing that story in an interview I would love to create a video around it. Do you have any photos of the watch during your service in the air force? You can contact me at thecasualwatchreviewer@gmail.com
Alan Sabanosh wow, just wow!
Good Lord! Your watch deserves a place in the Smithsonian, at least to warm the empty space reserved for Buzz Aldrins missing masterpiece.
It's simply incredible! Never serviced in 50 years? I suspect what Omega says about constant servicing is BS
Hands down the best review of this watch I have seen
Omega should pay you as I think any viewer close to buying this would go ahead with a purchase after seeing this
+John Smith thanks for the great comment, if Omega happen to watch this I'm open to offers! Thanks for watching, I really do love the speedmaster so I had to let it out!
Didn't see much a review of the watch. More like a 10 minute history of his individual piece.
Yes it was a review of that watch after I have owned it for 10 years. You are correct.
was at Goldsmiths and this lady at the counter told me that she once had a customer who wanted to get his Omega serviced.
It's an icon and holds that sort of cultural value. I am a proud owner of one myself and it truly stands out in my collection.
Yes I totally agree with you!
Excellent and honest review, I actually LOVE the paper clip bit 👍
+Watch Geek thank you and thanks for watching. That paperclip has held strong for like 4 years nearly. I wear mainly on a NATO now but I wore it on the bracelet for a long time with the paperclip on place.
Also my favorite part of the video. Thanks for sharing TCWR!
I have the same problem in my Casio. Gonna do it to👍
Nice video review. Alternate working title: "How I abused my classic and lived to tell the tale!" LOL
Just bought a Speedmaster which will be on the wrist from next week for my birthday. Looking forward to many years enjoyment.
Oh great welcome to then club! What model did you go for?
The moonwatch with hesalite and steel back.
Yes I agree, I always enjoy reading the comments and stories
6:25 was that a glitch in the matrix (",)
Oh I never noticed I left that in... Ten years with the Omega but only two on TH-cam!
Yes very similar to mine, I got mine in 2007 and wore it all the time! Its been well loved!
I just bought a 1861 yesterday. I have wanted one for decades. I loved your review of yours. Great content . cheers mate.
Awesome, thank you for watching!
Congrats for having the wisdom, maturity and contentment of wearing and owning one such watch for ten years!
Yep that Speedy is still going strong. I just released an update a few months ago of having this serviced.
The paper clip bit was genius of you. Really glad that you haven't babied your watch.
I couldn't agree more Paul! Thanks for watching and commenting, I'm in SoCal!
Same here! San Diego.
Oh so we are very close then! if your ever north near laguna beach let me know thecasualwatchreviewer@gmail.com
You need to watch the 'Why I sold my Omega' upload, I'm the same as you!
Great review of an absolute classic, timeless design too.
+mike o connor Thanks so much for commenting. Glad you enjoyed the review and thanks for subscribing!
I have had mine for 2 years now, lusted after for a long time, and it still brings a smile to my face every time I wear it
Hey thanks for commenting! Im still like that after 11 years, a really good looking watch!
Thanks for the great review, truly honest after 10 years. Love the low budget repair and daily wearer attitude.
Thanks for watching Martin
None hacking movement.
Poor water proofing.
Not antimagnetic.
Low quality lume.
No fine adjustment on bracelet.
Overpriced.
That said it's a classic and I want one
Great review of an iconic watch.
I was reading the list and and I can't argue, but like you I love the speedmaster! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment Andy.
Nice to hear some long term views on these watches. Not sure I could trust the paperclip repair but it seems to have worked.
Yes it was a bit alternative, but the pin was very similar to a paperclip. I wear it mostly on a Nato now anyway so I may get it fixed one day. Thanks for watching!
The paper clip and superglue alternative is probably stronger and more secure than the original!
It has not let me down so far!
The Casual Watch Reviewer I bought a cheap watch just to "break" it for it's metal pins.. Use that method if your paperclip ever fails. It's just a piece of metal after all
Historic watch needs love and proper maintenance, not a paper clip and super glue.
The Speedmaster Professional is my daily watch and I love it. I just have the "normal" modern version. The hesalite front and display caseback that you have is the ultimate Speedmaster to me. Best of both worlds. I hate that when buying new, you are forced to decide between the hesalite or the open caseback.
when I first got the watch I couldn't understand why they had created the watch with hesalite and sapphire but now I'm very fond of it that way!
Well you‘ve maintained it well- looks like it’s hardly been worn!
Do you know exactly how accurate it is from day to day? Average seconds per day?
10 years! Pretty sure I remember you getting it
James! Hey mate, yes your right it was 2007 when I got it and we were working together at the time.
I have absolutely no yearning to buy a Submariner anymore, but a Moonwatch, that’s another thing altogether! One day maybe, one day!
The Casual Watch Reviewer Fair enough, A watch for life
if the fix is working why buy a new clasp? The bracelet will have years of wear and a brand new clasp, it wouldn't look right.
With that level of previous case damage/repair, the price was about right.
Great review.
I loved the paper clip + superglue part. Well done.
Its held strong so far, thanks for commenting and watching!
NASA would love you with that kind of fix job
I thought the automatic speed masters only came with the Safire crystal front and back
Possibly, this one is not an automatic. It has hesalite on the front, sapphire on the back
very nice and warm review about speedy, just wanna thank you, keep going ...
Hi, thanks so much, yep I really love that watch. I try and do an upload a week so keep subscribed and thanks for commenting and watching!
The way you still feel about it, ten years on ... that's the piece that sticks for me ... cheers.
Hey! Thanks for watching, yes I had this watch for 12 years in the end but did recently sell it. I made an upload on it actually!
The Speedmaster seems to be a watch that you're not going to sell ever again once you've bought it.
Yes I agree, unless I found out it was a rare model and worth a fortune its going to be kept in the collection. Thanks for commenting.
I believe these, like Rolex Submariners, are referred to as legacy watches. Passed down from one generation to the next.
The moon watch is just so perfect. Even the hugeness. What a dial.
I’ve sold mine but regret it. Looking for another one so yeah.. stupid decision
Agree !i do own one.i never like a chrono ,but i fall im love with omega speedmasster moonwatch in first sight
Great feedback. Will be my next watch!
I love this watch! I will do an update next next year! Thanks for watching and commenting
My 2013 has the original factory fitted hesalite, and the Omega centre etching is rotated too
Oh right so its supposed to be like that! Well that makes me feel a lot better about it. Thanks for the information!
Yes I hope so, it is a great talking point as it seems a bizarre mixture on the face of it. Thanks for commenting.
A good review. Great to hear a long term perspective on the watch.
Yes and If I can I will try and do a 15 year and a 20 year video! Thanks for commenting and watching.
An iconic time piece. Simply timeless. Mine is the new model with reference no 311.30.42.30.01.005.
I commenting and watching, I couldn't agree more, thanks for commenting!
It doesnt hack so your small seconds and chrono will be off the exact time
Congrats on your 10 years 👍🏻
Thanks, here is to 10 more years!
Good stuff. Could you advise how is the time keeping like? How many seconds deviation per day?
Hey, you know its the only watch I don't time. Partly because its not hacking its hard to get it bang on the correct time.
im two years into my ownership. Loving it so far!
Hi Jack, yes mine is over 20 years old now and still going strong. I have just added it back in to the rotation and I forgot how nice it actually is!
Amazing watch, will definitely be added to my collection soon
Its a good watch!
Excellent review and personal history!
Thank you and thanks for watching... and also thanks for not mentioning the paperclip!
@@CasualWatchReviews Murphy's Law on war says "If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid" ;-)
Oh that is a great saying! When I do my next video on it I will use that!
Is there a 42mm speedmaster professional which has automatic movement where you can see the rotor in the back of the glass ?
I don't think in the Professional range but I believe the MKII was an automatic.
Moon watch is the most valuable iconic watch of OMEGA. I am still loving it since few years.
Yes I still love mine! I need to update this upload, thanks for watching and commenting!
I always enjoy watching this story
Thanks Michael, did you see the update to this I did on getting the Speedy serviced?
@@CasualWatchReviews I have not. I will if I can find the video.

Did you ever notice the the hour markers and the minute markers don’t line up when using the chrono? Apparently it’s quite common and acceptable. I’ve only just noticed this and it’s made me think twice about my purchase ☹️
Hi Jason, I have not noticed this actually so thanks for letting me know. I don't see this with my watch.
Great review and great watch !
+tynan nida I couldn’t agree more about the watch, thanks for commenting!
Can somebody please help me. What exact reference Speedmaster did Jack Swigert use to time the 14 sec burn? Can’t find it anywhere. Thanks.
Hi Kevin, I'm no speedmaster expert but I would look at reference 145.012
The moon 🌚 to mars version is just gorgeous!
Thanks for watching Jim!
Very nice watch and an inspiring story. How accurate is this watch?
Hi, may I know if Hesalite really scratch easily? My daily usage is only for office work. Thank you.
@@CasualWatchReviews "I would never buy a watch with Hesalite again." Haha, I get you. Thanks for being so honest. " Subscribed ....
I've had 2 and both did not have aligned C's on the factory installed crystals.
Hi Tony, thanmks. Sp both yours the omega logo was facing in like a 'c' position like mine?
The Casual Watch Reviewer the first one I had it was pointed like 11:00 & 5:00, the second a solid backwards c like yours. Both from authorized dealer sealed in box and red paint dot on case back intact.
Fantastic review; sealed the deal in my mind. Can't wait for the day when I can splurge on one of these babies.
Hi Sean, thanks for commenting. It is a great watch and a lot of history for the price. Maybe look at the secondhand market as well.
I thought this one is sapphire front and back?
Hi, thanks for commenting. Yep it seems odd but this model was only sapphire on the back.
This particular model is hesalite front, sapphire back; www.speedywatches.com/database/moonwatch_professional/3572-50-00/
the"newer" versions of this witch is Hesalite/solid or Saphire sandwich. They removed the hesalite w/display back. wonder why.
GhostHostMemories, yep it always seemed an odd combination to be but I wouldn’t change it no that you cant get them new anymore. Thanks for the input
They didn't sell too well - the people who wanted the "true Speedmaster" bought Hesalite/solid and those who were concerned about durability bought the sapphire sandwich. It was a limited run from 1992 to 2002 (correct me if I'm wrong).
Which reference is this? I love the hesilite but also the open case back so may try and source this model. Thanks
Hi, the reference is 3572.50.00 as you can see form the video I cant recommend it enough. Thanks for commenting and watching.
Thank you very much! I'm torn between finding this model or one of the new hesalite models from an AD (discounted)
How did you found the crystal backcase, service can do it?
My model came like that its affectionally called the sapphire sandwich. I don't think omega offer this as a service part.
Absoluty wonderful watch all the way around!! Great vid!!
I couldn't agree more about the watch! trying to up my review game so I can catch you up on subs!
Brilliant, one of the first people who wisely wears protective gloves when handling a desirable watch
Hi Peter, yes thanks, my main concern is with fingerprints. Filming in either 1080p or 4k they are so obvious. I have wasted a lot of time and footage on fingerprints! Thanks for commenting and watching!
Iconic watch, right up there with the Rolex sub, very cool vid, the paper clip 🤣🤣🤣🤣 mad 👍👍
Great educational video. Thanks. Mark 👍👍👍👍👍
A good honest review. No put on posh accent..👍
Hey Bob! Maybe I should try and put on a posh accent in one of the uploads! Glad you liked it and welcome to the channel
I loved it! I'm just starting my career but looking to buy this watch in the near future :)
Thanks for commenting. Yes its a great watch for the money and secondhand they are good value.
The Casual Watch Reviewer thanks for your words! I'll consider it!
Paperclip repair Love it!!Great review on A Great Piece!!
+Nick G yep I thought of that scene in Apollo 13 where they had all the stuff they had in the capsule to fix it! I had 1 paper clip some super glue and the determination not to pay Omega £100 for a new clasp!
The Casual Watch Reviewer lmao..Nothing wrong wit that..a little glue and determination goes a long way
Really good review - one of the best I've seen. I honestly didn't know that Omega made a speedster with Hesalite and sapphire together.
Hi Bill thanks so much for sharing that story! Wow 47 years trumps my 10 years on the wrist!
What's the reference number on this model? Does it use tritium?
Hi, thanks for commenting, its Speedmaster pro 'Moonwatch' 3572.50.00, I'm not 100% sure but I think it will be TRITIUM due to its age.
Great review thanks!
Hi Christian, Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

Anyone knows how many rounds to wind this watch each day?
I don't think there is a set amount, but you will know when its wound. There is resistance when its fully wound. not like an automatic that you can just wind and wind. When I'm consistently wearing mine I just give it a few turns when I remember, usually when I'm on the phone at work!

any schratches or service?
Hi Burt, I see your comment on the follow-up video that answers the servicing question so let me reply to that one!
10 years on the wrist or in the box? I hardly see a scratch on the watch and Nato strap is still hard like new.
Absolutely great review
+Amar Hassan thanks so much, I had a rough script of what I was going to say but then my love for the watch took over!

Maybe the shop can also check the accuracy on their instrument if they have one also for a fee.
hows the hesalite?
I like it but it does scratch, i just updated this upload a few weeks ago and covered getting the watch serviced. I think you will enjoy that!
Using paper pin was a brilliant idea!!
Still looks pristine
It was in pretty rough shape! I got it serviced after this then sold it. Loved it over the years but time to say goodbye!
I promote speedy pro’s especially the moonwatch . IMO I believe there the only watch you’ll ever need!
Totally agree!!
Me and mine were both over the moon in 2 ways.
