I built a cold room using an aircon set to -8'C. That way I do not need fridges or freezers. Do not add windows to the cold room and also build a hallway with 2 doors (One leading to the outside and the 2nd into the cold room) for better insulation. That way you can have a easy to maintain freezer for all your food storage needs. I even have the room on a independent power supply.
I thought it was things like out in the open, under roof, fridge or freezer. Does it actually look at temp? I do a lot of set up on my storage due to all the crap that they put places it doesn't need to go.
@@mbraden66 It actually split into 2 groups: out in the open and under the roof. Under the roof will then split into 3 groups depend on the room temperature: normal temperature (above 10C), fridge (0-10C), and freeze (below 0C).
@@candramaputra7344 yeah, I've gotten much better at resource location. Making a room 'freezer' is more efficient, but don't don't need stone in there. I make a dump all outside under a scrap roof for everything which is infinite while 'under roof'. Keep meds, drinks, etc near the individual rooms, etc. For my room freezer I now use 3 AC units as I have had two go out at once and needed CPUs or some other scarce resource.
And Simon with a Pulse Rifle is practically cheating - he can fire and fall back while everyone is going 'pew pew'. It helps that he heals fast too for assaulting Shrieker nests.
Lightning rod is always my first research. It only takes six hours and thunderstorms can really mess with you. Spanj's current playthrough is an excellent example. The one with separate shelters is a good one. I never thought about that and always keep my people sleeping together both in camp and when I start building for real. I even started making earbuds for them, not realising the cause was so simple to fix. Also, I guess that's why a dating/married couple kept whining about sleeping without their loved one despite being in the same room.
Well done. Clear narrative, solid tips, well edited, and pleasantly resented. Keep developing your skills and script writing. Great content about this great new game. Subscribed!
I like Sinmon's movement bonus for early combat and eradicating bug nests because he can whatever gaming term you like for baiting mobs - kite, pull, stutter step, etc.
Really solid guide! I’ve overlooked Vivian which I’ve come to regret. Clothing is a huge problem with their very short durability and the length it takes to create them. I kinda think it’s a balancing issue the developers should address. A baseball cap if worn every day in the spring and summer should last a few years. This is early access and although I think fairly polished still needs lots of balancing and refining. Good guide though! You hit all the points I was expecting.
it's one of the huge factors I have noticed and a solid reason to pick her for sure! She can genuinely finish 3 pieces of clothing a day! Thanks for watching
wow! what a great seed! i was going to rage-quit and stop playing my game coz my map didnt have grain or lots of other goodies! but ur video has given me the kick i need to give it another shot with those 4 survivors :)
Another tip for farming: rather than one massive plot, create two half size plots. It is easier for the survivors to plant and harvest them this way. A max size plot can take most of a day to plant or harvest, which can be problematic when they get tired or hungry or you need to get something else taken care of. Additionally, some crops you do not need 2000 of, so why waste time on those (eg: how much smoke leaf do you *really* need?)
Bush fruits can only be eaten raw there is no cook recipe for them early. Fruits Flambe later in game is an option you need beer or wine to make. When you have grain, oil/fats, and syrup you need to unselect those too.
Conor is a good pick at the start he is a good shot, does a lot of physical and comes with nanites that can boost the entire parties speed and working speed for 5 days or himself for 10 days.

@@TheOnlyL0nzYhow did you decide which useless ideas you should highlight and which you should throw out? Separate shelters like you have only work if nobody steps past them. Anyway you get an early game bonus to happiness. Get actual rooms before that runs out and you'll be good. There's only one way to mitigate pain and my man pointed it out in this post. You play on easier settings so maybe pain isn't a problem for you, but once you get a little daring and attempt the hardest settings, pain will slow you down unnecessarily. Especially since you skip lightning rods. Smoke weed will help with that. You didn't show what you make with the leathers: veggy or otherwise. A chair? I do construction research first then I do the lightening rods as I ALWAYS on EVERY MAP have many storms and have 3 times either been hit by lightning or had people like Rita or jack killed (3 people I always use as jack is an ex combat trainer who helps get other peoples combat lvl up and Rita finds new things on away missions and no one else can do that and Quinn is great for savaging materials) I have started to use emelin as her ability to turn normal food to exquisite food is a useful thing to keep people happy, but winter is what kills me so maybe it’s time I used Vivian who I’ve never used yet
Just started playing this game and cannot figure out how to keep survivors on task. I set up 2 of them to cut trees for wood, sent one over to observe a plant and then the 2 tree cutters switched what they were doing and 1 went idle.

I go Sora, Emelin, Laara and Katina, go full vegetarian and use meat for dogs and insect meat for fuel. I have to add. Quin is really good as well for Ken for geting stuff from expeditions, and the ability to craft clothes 4 times faster sounds incredible
The great part about your strategy is that you can "go full vegetarian" with every character in the game. Feel free to limit yourself in your games however you like, though.
@TheOnlyL0nzY Honestly my whole team's seems unsuitable to cook make clothes, just farm. How i've made to the middle of year two I will never know. Thanks. You got a sub.

Not the best seed, I probably would have started over... I do like your character choices, though I would have swapped Laara out for Emelin. Every meal eaten that was cooked by Emelin increases the survivor happiness more than you will get with other chefs. I usually go for Quin, Nova, and Vivian as well. Nice Vid.
Great choices! The idea was to go in with a random seed as that's what most will do when playing :) I have released a character video that goes over a bit more of my character choices since playing a little more
Only new to the game myself was curious how you pan the camera around so smoothly? I try with the alt key and middle mound wheel and it's horrific to try get a good view. Maybe I'm missing something any tips would be appreciated. Btw I'm playing the game through GeForce now.
Very good video and pointers, at first I wasn't really paying attention to the mental state of my survivors and ended killing off a couple very early in the game... But even trying to keep them happy for whatever reason they still end up starving themselves to death... The longest I've made it so far is into the summer of the 2nd year.. So I'm curious if the game can be beaten, I'm not having alot of success doing so... Anywho keep up the good work, enjoy the vids
great guide, a little bit too long but covers almost everything for the beginning, well done! my last 2 cents would be to create a carpet in your house to get rid off the "cave dweller -5"
I will never choose a vegetarian again because you would need to research canning before winter and micro-manage diets during winter or they will starve to death. You also need antibiotics before winter, or you could lose everyone to the flu. Nova is a great character even without intellect skill. If you send her on (I think) the tachyon mission you could make her capable of intellect with a boost in that skill to the max of 10 points.
Vegans are easy just cook the veg meals first. You can get a large supply of melons before winter and the cold keeps them from rotting. They also eat the berries but you have to have fruits selected under raw since there is no cook meal for them until you can make Fruits Flambe.
I've noticed that the animals around the map murder eachother at the beginning so you should be able to get easy hide and meat if you pay attention to the animals

My only tip. Use 1 science bench per character. All 4 working at once can go through multiple tech per day. Its awesome.
They have so many useless techs and buildings. I do not research half of them probably. There is no need in speeding up research at all.
There's still a lot of critical techs that take days. It's good to know you can blast through them quickly by spending 10 wood.
