Thank You Jack. I have been having loads of issues with NewBlue Titler Designer Version 7 (TP7) build 210922. Your cafefully crafted tutorials have solved a number of issues which I could not get my head around. I started with TP3 and upgraded to TP6 some years ago. My method of working did not entail the need to save everything at regular interval. I was in touch with Callum at NewBlue who was very helpfull when I started out. He told me that Titler Pro saved the title automatically without the need to save manually.
As a result of a special offer from MAGIX I was able to upgrade to TP7 earlier this year. That is when it all went pear shaped. My methed of getting copies of a title complex of simple styles to migrate to another title in TP6 was simply to copy the title event on the timeline in Vegas Pro 18 and paste it in a new location on the timeline then editi it to my requirements, without sharing set this worked fine. Not only does that not work in TP7 I have discovered it has another quirk when you do that. It creates yet another additional copy in the title list to add to the confusion.
Following your tutorial has taught me that there is a better way, thank you for that. With TP7 Build 210922 as you answed Ross Conley you still cannot get the 'saved as' name to appear in TP7 title list. Clearly NewBlue have not solved this prblem 2 years down the line. I have not been saving each title prior to clicking the green tick bottom right of the UI and as yet not experienced any other issues. The order of titles in the title list is still and issue, they just do not seem to follow any logic of creation, alpa or numeric order.
Hi Malcolm. Thanks for your comment. Yes, unfortunately, TP7 has become very frustrating for me. It has so many issues that I've tried to get NewBlue to sort out, but to no avail.
If you can afford it, I suggest that you switch to Title Studio from Boris FX. In my opinion, it's far superior in many ways. The only thing that TP7 has over Title Studio is multi-title management, but Title Studio's plusses far outway this.
I've done a number of tutorials on Title Studio and if you check out my latest one on Hitfilm, the opening titles will show you what can be achieved with Title Studio. You can't get 3D graphics interacting like that with TP7.
@@veteranvideoeditor9400 Thank you Jack for a quick reply. I share your frustration.
I have looked at the tutorial on shaky video, another well crafted tutorial and I noted the elegent intro title. I can see clearly what you mean. However with the current state of the pound against the dollar and Title Studio at a price tag of $199, I think I will wait a while. Meanwhile I will watch more of your excellent tutorials.
@@Macvidman Thanks Malcolm
Really appreciate you taking the time to explain all this. There wouldn't be so much anger and confusion if NewBlue handled this better, meaning if TP7 gave each title a unique name and gave us an option to convert/save all project titles in one go without having to manually create a unique name and save each and every title separately. Imagine how much time could be saved in a project with 50 or more titles! Or, as we editors look at it, how much time is wasted by not having that option. This really could be a simple 1-click conversion if done right.
Thanks for your appreciation Alan. Are you aware that NewBlue has released an update to TP7 that partially addresses the backwards compatibility issue? It's reported that it allows all titles in a TP6 project to be saved in bulk when loaded into TP7. I've not installed it yet but this should make my job a lot easier. I've a number of TP6 projects that I've yet to migrate to TP7.
@@veteranvideoeditor9400 Sounds great. I just purchased the update, and haven't yet installed it. I found your channel mentioned in the Vegas forums while I was refreshing my memory on the issues others had encountered.
Thank you Jack. As a complete novice to NewBlueFX Titler Pro 7, I could not understand how my previous title changed when I made a change in the current title I was working on. Your tutorial has given me the understanding I needed to make a start on projects with multi titles.
Hi Ronald
Firstly, my apologies for not responding sooner.
Thank you for your positive comment. Titler Pro 7 can be very frustrating at times and has caused a great deal of confusion with users. NewBlue dramatically changed the methodology compared with Titler Pro 6 and it took me some time to fully grasp the new concepts. I've been using it now for about a year and in that time I've built up a great deal of knowledge about its capabilities. Try not to get frustrated with its quirks (there are a lot of them), there are workarounds for most of them. Check out the rest of my tutorials and you'll find that it's a very powerful 3D titler.
A great help, thanks. I totally concur with galapiat - I too was closing the titler window. Makes so much more sense if the Titler Pro window stays open.
Yes, and more productive if you have two monitors, NLE on one and TP7 on the other.
@Paul Marshall There ya go!
I bought Pro7 just before Christmas having had a previous version bundled with an earlier version of Vegas Suite but lost it as I upgraded. I was delighted to chance on your tutorial as the New Blue ones explained the design aspects but none explained the mechanics of saving or sharing as you have done here. Many thanks.
Hi Roy. Thanks for your positive comment, it's much appreciated.
Thanks! I learned a few things watching this video. I was always closing the Titler Pro window after working on each individual Title of a multi-title Vegas Pro project. Being able to switch between the different titles in Titler Pro is neat and now the Design Sharing panel also makes sense :-)
Hi, and thanks for your positive comment. I'm glad you found it useful. I've been using this workflow for some time now. It's more productive and made easier if you have 2 monitors.
Hi Veteran Video Editor, I indeed have multiple monitors, so your workflow works well for me...
Thank you for your effort in trying to clear things up, but I still encounter issues. I have a storyboard with approx. 15 Titles presently. I've "saved as" for each Title into my designated folder. Every time I attempt to "X" Titler Pro 7 after I create a new Title (Lower Third) - and "save as," it warns me that I have "...many Titles to be saved to disk...save together...separately?" But, I've already saved them separately...and numerous times before! Even though the Title has a name in the "Design Sharing Title List," the program expects me to name it - however it was already named, and saved several times before!!! And, there's "no escape" from the Titler Program unless I do!!! I can't bother renaming each and every Title each time I want to create a little Title for my project!
In the past 2 days I've been using this "upgrade" and trying to make out heads or tales of what the "pop-up notices" are trying to have me choose to do, I could have completed edited 4 of my half-hour Public Access TV shows! Instead, I'm still working on my first one!!! So far I've wound up creating multiple copies of the same Title; renamed the "same" previously "saved" Title multiple times... accidentally saved previous Titles to the "default Title," and somehow managed to delete others! This software is anything but "intuitive!" Again, thanks for attempting to help. I think NewBlue should make their own video focusing solely on the correct procedures on saving Titles and Designs. They sure owe it to their (and prospective) customers! Maybe once I understand what's going on I'll love it, but for right now, it's a nightmare! I'm presently trying to make my Vegas Pro 17 crash just to escape the Titler program and the "renaming process!" Unbelievable!
Hi. It sounds as if I haven't calmed your anger, or relieved your frustration. Let me see if I can help.
It sounds as if you've upgraded from a previous version of Titler Pro. Is that right? If so, is the project that you're working on one that you've saved before with Titler Pro 6 titles?
From your description the answer to the last two questions is probably Yes. This explains the dialog prompting that there are many titles to be saved to disk, etc. I know that you have saved all your titles before exiting, but what you haven't done is exit Titler Pro with the green check mark button. This may be because of an annoying quirk of Titler Pro that I've been trying to get NewBlue to fix for a long time. Titler Pro opens in a normal window by default, which means that, unless you maximise it manually, the green check mark button is hidden off screen at the bottom right hand corner. From your description it sounds as if you're exiting Titler Pro with the Windows 'X' button at the top right hand corner. This will prompt you to save titles, whereas the green check mark button saves titles automatically.
The best workflow is this:-
After Titler Pro opens, maximise its window. If they are new titles, save them as soon as possible with unique names. Work on your titles and get them how you want (best done with two monitors if possible). Wait until they have all been rendered (cached), that is, when the caching circles at the side of each title turns green. Close Titler Pro down with the green check mark button. The red X button exits Titler Pro but discards any changes. I've also found that it's good practice to save your Vegas Pro project, even if you haven't changed anything in the project itself.
I hope this makes sense to you. Get back to me if you need more help. And please get back to me if the above solution works for you.
Believe me, when you get used to the many 'quirks' of Title Pro, which can be overcome by workarounds, this is a very powerful piece of software and you can produce some stunning titles and lower thirds with it. Check out the rest of my videos to see what can be done with it.
@@veteranvideoeditor9400 Hi! Well first, thanks for such a quick response! Watching your video has alleviated some of my fears, in that, success can be achieved - and I just can't wait! Right now I'm fearful of even opening my project and calling up Titler Pro 7 and potentially facing each previously saved Title over and over again!
While I started using Titler Pro 7 fresh with my new project, I did call up previously saved Titles under version 5. So I can understand, perhaps, the need for renaming of them with version 7, however, this had been done multiple times.
At first, as you had presumed, I exited the program "before" closing clicking on the hidden check mark at the lower bottom right which, as you indicate, remains unseen unless the window is totally expanded. But again, I've renamed, saved, etc., several times afterwards and closed the proper way with the check mark, only to be prompted to save my "multiple" Titles again! I'm curious, since owning Titler Pro 7, have you had the opportunity to work on any extensive project successfully using multiple Titles, lower-thirds, etc.? I'm only asking since I'm curious to discover if, say, going over 10 Titles, Lower-thirds, etc., is causing some quirks in this software? In all likelihood, I'm simply doing something wrong, but what it is I've yet to figure out! It's a real headbanger :^)
For my needs, using Titler Pro 5 was easy. I'd create my lower-third (in particular), save the file, call the file up, edit the Name, Font, Color, however I wanted, then re-save under a different name. Other than a 45 second scrolling credits I managed to create successfully by importing text from my word processing program, Titler Pro 5 worked like a charm! I could even easily "edit the text credits" directly in the Titler program itself, rename, and that was that! No fuss - no muss!
Now I don't know what I'm doing anymore! I only wanted to upgrade to take advantage of better caching, added effects, Titles, and other features I could explore, not to have to dread calling up the program to work with and wonder and hope I can even find a way to exit the program without screwing something up! And, what's worse, my Titler Pro 5 has been removed from appearing in my Media Generator!? I was going to finish my project using that and postpone the use of Titler Pro 7 until I had a better handle on it. I'm sure I could reinstall Titler 5, but I don't even want to do so and potentially make matters even worse, if that's possible! :^)
But, thanks again. If I ever discover what I'm doing wrong, I'll let you know. But, again, I feel NewBlue ought to post a video on the proper procedures on how to open/close/save/rename, etc., basic Titles. Their pop-up "messages" are far too vague and need more clarity IMHO :^)
@@GILLnBARRY Hi.
You say that you called up some previously saved titles under version 5. It's a long time since I used version 5 and, from memory, titles created with Titler Pro 5 as a plugin to Vegas didn't need saving. Are you saying that you saved these using the standalone version of Titler pro 5? If so, I wonder if this is causing the problem. All I know is that I've migrated several Vegas projects that contained Titler Pro 6 titles into a Titler Pro 7 environment with very little difficulty, once I had worked out the required workflow.
My individual projects range from 8 minutes to about 15 minutes in length and contain many lower thirds. I'm a little obsessive regarding informing my viewer as to what they are seeing. I think one of my projects had something like 15 or more lower thirds plus a main title. Apart from becoming more sluggish the more titles are created, it coped with them OK.
One more suggestion. If you did, indeed, save your Titler Pro 5 titles using the standalone version, try opening them one at a time in the standalone version of Titler Pro 7. If they load in OK and play OK, re-save them to a different location using File/Save as'. Make a note of that location. Open your Vegas project and immediately re-save it with a different name to prevent corrupting your original. Open up Titler Pro 7 as you would normally do within Vegas. Starting with the first title in the title list, highlight it and select File/Open. Select 'Don't save' in the next dialog. Browse for the location where you re-saved your titles and select the one that matches your first title. Repeat for all the titles in your title list. Wait for them to re-cache then select the green check mark. Hopefully, you won't see the 'Save multiple titles' dialog. Save your Vegas project with a new name. Your original project will remain intact and your original titles will still be in their original locations, if you need to go back to it.
If that doesn't work, I'm stumped.
@@veteranvideoeditor9400 Thanks again for quick response! Well, I'm happy to learn that you've produced successful projects with multiple titles ... gives me hope (ha-ha).
Yes, saved titles using the standalone version in Titler Pro 5. I called some up, through Vegas Pro 17 and they loaded okay. Two, however, after having them cache; saved again, hitting green check mark and finally returning to the storyboard were somehow corrupt! Blurry and shaky edges around the design portion of the lower-third... text wiggling to and fro blinking visibly and invisibly. Never experienced anything like this before. This was after importing the old Title, deleting the design underneath the text, and creating 2 new different colored rectangles using the shear to stylize. Looked nice too :^)
I will attempt what you suggest with regards to loading/saving in standalone version and experiment further. I have a hunch that I may have somehow corrupted some of the files in Titler Pro 7 through the improper use ... initially not closing with the green check mark...multiple, multiple files saves upon saves, etc. Fortunately, I'm nearly done with my project (4 shows). Once completed I start afresh by creating an experimental project and practice with that until I fully have a handle on things.(plus work on one show at a time on storyboard until I become a master at it - ha!)
Thanks for all you help and suggestions! I really do appreciate it! Rgds, Wayne
Hi. Very useful your tutorial. Thanks. Can I ask you a cuestion? On Titler Pro, how can duplicate the list of Tiles, without do it outsise (other soft, like in your video)
you work onto 4 titles, duplicated on the other soft. How can i made the list of many titles made in TITLER PRO ,
@@ClaudioPignataro If I understand you correctly, you're asking if many titles can be created in Titler Pro without launching it from the video editing software. The answer to that is, if you have launched Titler Pro in standalone mode, No. In standalone mode you can only create one title at a time.
Does that answer your question?
@@veteranvideoeditor9400 Yes. That was my answer. Thank you
Thank you, Jack. I followed your link from the New Blue FX General Discussion topic and am wishing I'd seen it before I messed up my latest timeline in my Avid Media Composer project. I look forward to your video on upgrading from TP6 although I upgraded from TP5 for Avid to TP 7 Ultimate when Avid decided to no longer bundle TP with MC.
Hi Jayasri and thank you for the comment. I answered your comment on the NewBlue forum but I'll reiterate it here. It's a while since I used TP5 but the procedure I used in my videos to migrate TP6 to TP7 should work for TP5 projects.
Hello Jack. Taking you up on your kind offer to assist where possible. I have upgraded my PC and I need to transfer my Titler Pro 7 library which includes my own title projects. I did this a while ago but I've forgotten how to do it - getting older you know! Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Hi Ian. Unfortunately, I've uninstalled TP7 as my titler of choice now is BCC Title Studio. Are you saying that you have a dedicated folder where you have all your designed titles? If so, just copy them over to you new PC. If not, and all your titles are contained within your projects, then you'll have to do it the long way. you should be able to load in each video project containing your titles, then launch the TP7 UI and save the title with File/Save As into a specific location. You can then copy all the titles to your new PC. I believe that should work.
If you want to transfer all your projects over to the new PC, copy them over, and when you load them into your NLE, the cache files will be regenerated.
Hope this helps. Meanwhile, I'll re-install TP7 and check that my memory serves me correctly.
@@veteranvideoeditor9400 Hi Jack, thank you very much for getting back to me. Your reply nudged my memory! The individual project titles are stored under New Blue-Titler Pro in Documents on my C drive so I copied the New Blue folder onto a flash drive and copied it from there on to the C drive of the new PC. All working OK 😊Thank you again for your time in replying to my query. Kind regards.
@@IanTupmanOutdoors My pleasure Ian. I'm glad you sorted it.
Hey I'm finally making sense of this. Question: I saw that the "Share" option had the "unshared" selectable after you shared the title. Does it not revert when you unshared it via that drop down menu?
No, once you share it with another title so that it takes on the design of that title, you can 'Unshare' it and it will retain that design. What it does mean is that you can then change that title you have 'Unshared' and it won't affect the other titles that are 'Shared'.
Does that make sense to you?
@@veteranvideoeditor9400 it does not make sense but not because of your explanation. That I understand. Turns out it doesn't matter anyway since I have the less than stellar "this will never entice me to buy the full version" express edition.
@@Oli00ps Hi Oliver. Yes, things have changed a lot since the first build of TP7. I did this tutorial because the change in methodology between TP6 and TP7 was so great that users were very confused and angry. I'm muddling along with the latest build but I'm far from happy with it. I can't blame you for your decision. The problem is, there's no comparable titler out there as far as I'm concerned. I'm hoping that, in time, NewBlue will get things right.
By the way, I'm not familiar with the Express edition so I don't know the limitations.
Hi Jack, I upgraded from Movie Studio Platinum 13 to 16 some time ago. When I installed 16, I was really excited that I got Titler Pro 7 Express and Supreme Package. However, in two years I have not used the products because they totally confuse me.
First, I just watched this video and noticed that you seem to have a NewBlue designer software that I do not have. All I have is the NewBlueFX App Manager and my Movie Studio Platinum software with a title I can drop in a video track.
I did not see an option anywhere where I could install any design software. This has got me even more confused. Can you help of advise me? Thanks.
Hi Randy. Firstly I have to say that, unfortunately, Titler Pro 7 Express is a greatly cut down version of Titler Pro 7 (which my tutorials are all about). I've tried to find out what the limitations are but haven't been successful. I know that some years ago I was in the same situation that you find yourself in. I had upgraded to a newer version of Movie Studio and found that the titler (I think it was called Titler Pro EX) bundled with it was far from adequate. You could apply the built in templates but couldn't do any customising apart from change text colour and font. So, the long and short of it is that if you want (or need) the kind of title creation shown in my tutorials, you will have to purchase the full version of Titler Pro 7. I don't know what your budget is but you can get Titler Pro 7 for $299 at the moment. For this price you only get the standard number of pre-designed templates. However, in my experience, I find it much more satisfying to design my own. If you can afford it you won't be disappointed. It's possible to create some really stunning titles and, with the help of my tutorials, you'll avoid some of the pitfalls that I've come across and found workarounds for.
I hope this helps and thanks for watching.
Thanks, Jack.
I'm going through your tutorial and added four TP7 Media Generator to my Vegas Pro14 timeline. When I individually save as Titler 01, 02, 03 and 04 in TP7, the name doesn't change in TP7 in the title list, as per your video? Tried a few times. Any ideas, Regards, Ross
Yes Ross. NewBlue has released a number of builds since I made this video. Unfortunately (in my opinion), in the latest build (build 200903) which is the one I presume you're using, they decided to revert to the old way of storing titles. When Titler Pro 7 was released, titles needed to be saved manually to a location of your choice. This caused a lot of confusion and anger from long time users of Titler Pro, who had been used to not having to manually save titles. That was the reason I produced the tutorial. I wanted users to realise that manually saving the titles had its advantages.
Back to the present. With the current build, the only reason to save your title using 'Save As', is to archive that particular title so that you can use it in other projects. The name you give the title when you're saving it is not reflected in the title list, as you've discovered. When you exit the UI with the green check mark at the bottom right of the screen, all the titles are saved automatically, with their caching data, to the hidden folder 'C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\NewBlue\Titler\Cache\'.
There are a number of reasons why I don't like the new way of saving titles, which I won't go into detail about. The main reason is that the titles are stored with very obscure and long filenames, so it's virtually impossible to determine which title to use when design sharing. Another reason is that, if you've saved a title using Save As, any change you make to that title afterwards doesn't get saved when you exit the UI. You have to remember to save the title again, before you exit, to make sure that the changes get saved to your manually saved version.
I've gone back to build 200423 which has the least amount of issues and has the old title saving philosophy.
I hope this answers your question. Just to add. I'm currently in discussion with NewBlueFX in the hope that all (or most) of the issues can be resolved.
@@veteranvideoeditor9400 Hi Jack, Thanks for your prompt reply . Can I revert back to the version you are using? I purchased tp7 in the past week so I would be using the latest version . Regards Ross, Melbourne, Australia.
@@roscoAUSTRALIA Hi Ross. You can revert to build 200423 and your serial number should work with this. But, and it is a big but, for obvious reasons I can't provide you with this . What I can do is point you to where you can request this build. Go to newbluefx.zendesk.com/hc/en-us and sign in to your NewBlue account (you will have set this up when you registered your software). After you've logged in, click the blue 'Help' bubble at the bottom right of the screen. You'll be prompted with a 'How can we help?' dialog box. Put a few characters in here. It doesn't matter what, it's just how you bypass all the FAQ stuff. Press Return and another box will appear with a blue 'Contact us' button at the bottom right. Fill in all the details and, at the bottom, you'll see a box labelled 'How can we help you?'. In this box explain that, for a number of reasons, you want to revert to build 200423. You can mention my name if you want, they know me and I've arranged this kind of thing before. You should get an automated email acknowledging your request and you'll be given a support number. I doubt whether you'll get a quick response to your request, but you never know. If you haven't had a response in about a week, repeat the process. If you still get no joy, let me know and I'll see if I can pull some strings.
@@veteranvideoeditor9400 Hi Jack, Thask for your assistance. I have sent them a request via the zendesk, how can we help you?, so hopefully hear back tomorrow. They've answered a previous request fairly promptly. Regards, Ross
Hi Jack, ZENDESK has replied and can't find a copy of 200423 to offer me. I've tried to deactivate TP7 and reload TP5 but his hasn't worked either. Very frustating. I also get a scrub to refresh message when I create titles in TP7, which I can't work out to remove. Regards, Ross
Thanks for the heads up. I was getting bitten by the new methodology and this helped clear it up.
Geoff, glad I could help. As you're probably aware by now, TP7 has many quirks that can cause frustration. But it produces such good results, it's a shame that some users are put off by these quirks. I've found over the years that most of these quirks are overcomeable (is that a legit word?) and I'm determined to minimise this frustration by passing on these workarounds to other users in my series of tutorials.
@@veteranvideoeditor9400 Yes. It does produce great results easily once you work with it for a while. Had a strange one today where a transition effect applied to test (neon glow) appeared to be clipped in a frame surrounding all the text objects, rather than working full frame. Have not worked that one out yet.
@@geoffswan1254 Hi Geoff. Make sure that the 'Clip to Paragraph Box' option under the Global option for the text element isn't checked.
@@veteranvideoeditor9400 Thanks Jack. Had already checked that. However it seems to constrain the effect to a box that covers all the titles in the frame. Scrub in TP7 shows what I'd expect, but rendering to a video file or transferring to Vegas17 clips the effect to just around the title area. Weird.
@@geoffswan1254 Geoff. I've just re-read your comment regarding the transition effect. Are you by any chance wanting the transition effect to act on all your text elements? Have you tried grouping the text elements together and then applying the neon glow effect to the group? I've not tried this myself but it should work. I'll have a little play with that later on when I have time.
Great video - but nothing will save, after the first time I just get "please ensure the target location is writable and try again" - yes it is - I just saved the first version there???. I have this problem with all five of my drives. Can you do a video on how to save edited work that actually saves.
Hi Steve. I've been using Titler Pro 7 since it was released and I've never had problems saving titles. Did you install TP7 on your system drive? Have you tried saving a title whilst in standalone mode? What version TP7 have you installed? As you've watched the video you can see that I was able to save my titles with no problem.
Veteran Video Editor - Thanks for responding - Titler Pro 7 (V7.2) is on my C Drive, I’m not quite sure what you mean by standalone?
@@steveking8993 Hi Steve - TP7 can be launched in two ways. Normally it's launched automatically from within your editing software (Vegas Pro 17 in my case), but you can launch it manually by launching it from your program list (I have a shortcut on my desktop for this). One other thing, can you save your titles to the Library? Because I have no trouble saving titles it looks as if it's a Windows problem on your computer. I'll do some digging to see if I can find a possible answer.
@@veteranvideoeditor9400 Oh I see, I always launch it as a standalone. Having tried it, I can save to the library, the problem appears to occur when I try and save anywhere else - OneDrive or other hard drive. That is a step forward, thank you for suggesting it.
@@steveking8993 I'm puzzled. Saving to the library saves it to a library folder on C: drive so I can't see why you can't save a title to that drive. How are you trying to save your titles. Are you using 'File/Save As...'? Try saving to C: drive. You mentioned OneDrive. Is that the Microsoft OneDrive? I don't know whether TP7 is capable of saving to a cloud service or a network drive. You mention 'other hard drive'. Are these drives internal drives? On another issue, how are you using the saved title (when you manage to save it)? I only use the standalone version for creating titles and saving them to the library for future use in Vegas Pro.
Thanks for this - my next titling video will be much better
You're welcome. I don't know which build of Titler Pro 7 you're using, but the current build has a different title saving mechanism than the one in my tutorial (which is the original build). Most of my other TP7 tutorials are still valid though.
