i remember behind the scenes for this episode that Dave Filoni talked about how they didn't want to over use the commando droids to give the impression that they were a really rare and expensive variant, i think a single commando droid was as expensive as like a squad of regular B1s
@@josephsuh525Their only uses for spec ops, vital targets etc. Missions normal B1's, B2's, droidekas etc cannot work in. Perhaps they were but if your referring to the clone wars animated show that came before the TV animated show then they weren't even concieved at the time.
They're also not that amazing when marching in formation. Their aim is better, sure, but they die about as easily as a B1. Still kind of strange that they weren't patrolling the _Invisible Hand,_ but maybe they were and we just didn't see them.
9:28 When the rookies keep shooting the droid they're probably just following one of the oldest military rules: keep shooting your enemy until you know they're no longer a threat. Kinda the same principle as double-taps I guess
One thing thing I noticed is that when the commando droid gets shot, the lasers are red, even though captain, Rex and Commander Cody are clearly using republic weapons 6:21
razor and stak are my favorite semi-background clones. they were 2 ARFs with Windu on ryloth, and they _killed_ it. usually you have your few random clones with your "main character" and they all die, but no these two kept up with _Mace Windu_ and took on a squad of commando droids and won
@1:36, As someone who has regularly worn a gunbelt or equipment on a duty belt, this is actually a pretty natural and instinctive pose, especially if you're wearing body armor on the chest like Anakin is (though Obi-Wan doesn't seem to mind crossing his arms over his chest), since it makes crossing your arms over your chest kinda difficult. So hands-on-the-hips is the next best thing, and if there's something to rest your hands on... well, even better!
With the minigun you have to take in fire rate, spread of droids, and their distance. The first 8 were maybe 5 feet from heavy, but the main group looked to be at least 40 feet away. The hallway may only show a part of the droids since the b1 were more of an overwhelming force.
Actually every kill Rex makes in the first 9 minutes of this video is a heads hot. The commando disguised as a trooper, headshot. the rishi eel, shot in the eye. the commando Droid in the door and the ones in the control center bar the commando captain, all headshots. The Z-6 or minigun is interesting, it seems to have variable fire rates. Hevy's here fires pretty fast but doesn't seem too powerful, on Umbara, hardcases Z-6 has a slower fire rate but is more accurate and downs umbarans in one shot. Cutup is one of my favorites cuz he's Irish and a comedian. I also like Denal cuz he wounded Cad Bane and survived Greivous and his lore is insane. Lastly I'd probably say Keeli (because drip) or Hawk who survives from the battle of christophsis to the imperial Era as a clone pilot. That's insane, even Oddball died in RoTS and he was the only other clone pilot with a similar lifespan (Contrail or shadow eleven from the malevolence mission dies in Vaders arms in Legends) but cannonically, Hawk and Oddball were the oldest known clone pilots
The reason they didn’t used commando droids often is the mission on this episode they captured the outpost first but got eliminated but when they send a whole carrier of normal droids they can recapture the outpost and fully control it so the separatist saw that the commando droids where only worth in small special operations but not for big battles (The showrunner said that in an interview)
I'd say the regular droids are for battlefields and large scale assaults. Commando droids would be used mostly for infiltration and sabotage missions. But that's just my guess. That's why they're not in Revenge Of The Sith. We only see large battles in that movie.
I love the fact that the commando droids are so agile. Also with the sword it's a good combo. 11:36 the droid is the best actor in star wars history 😂 I think Rex is the best clone but i like CT-5555 (Fives) the most.
4:45 this scene always confuses me. The dude says "Don't forget about those rishi eels" then 15 seconds later when he starts shooting it he shouts "what the hell was that" 🤔
I remember this episode was on repeat on CW back in the day. After a while i got annoyed, but now i would love to see it over and over again. But i did always like the commando droids and seeing clones be awesome
From research in Star Wars Lore, the B1s were the cheapest to make which is why arguably their seen more often since like the Galactic Empire, the Separatist focused Quantity over Quality, & thus the Commando Droids were seen for only “important” black ops missions and or as bodyguards at times.
To explain the BX Commando Droids were extremely expensive due to material and software being put in them a B1 can be programmed with a small infantry algorithm a BX however requires a larger algorithm including a voice modulator.
Favourite clone? Hmmm... Unpopular opinion, but Fox is quite high on that list for whatever reason. Tech too... Doom... Bacara and Neyo... Idk, there are SO many to choose from... Echo's pretty cool too... But all in all, I think Fox and Tech might be topping the list entirely.
Fun fact at 5:53 after Rex shoots the commando droid Cody says what the heck but myself and others remember it being “Rex what the hell” or something along those lines
I still have no idea how they’re able to make their characters say hell and damn, which is crazy, considering the fact that Hell and damn by far your more friendly curse words, and also have a friendlier version with those being heck and dang.
I had to rewatch the moment where Rex one shot’s the first droid (the one pretending to be a clone) like five times because I could’ve SWORN Cosy said “fuck! Rex!!!” but I knew it couldn’t possibly be that bc they could NOT have gotten away with something like that. But it sounds sooo much like an f-bomb
The reason they didn’t commonly use candy droids in battle is because they are more stealth focused and are harder to use in large numbers because just imagine like 1000 of these guys just jumping around ducking and rolling it would be chaos
If you want some nightmare fuel, and a good episode to breakdown, id suggest Season 2, Episode 8, Brain Invaders. Maybe Legacy of Terror but I do think Brain Invaders could be fun.
I realized something too when i watched it again these days. When the clones escape through the vents Eco looks into orbit where the CIS-fleet is seen, with 2 Lukrahulks. Later when the republic fleet arrives in oribt only the freggetts are seen until 5sec later Eco again looks into orbit and the Lukrahulks magicly appear again.
You should watch some of the lightsaber fights in slo mo such as kenobi vs maul and savage then obi wan and anakin vs dooku. Dooku kept anakin on defense and obi wan on offense just toying with them
Also if you noticed, once the commando's got taken out. That little red light of their chest goes off.....somewhat showing that they were finally powered down
My favorite clone trooper is CT-99. He overcame his disability and didn't let it keep him from doing his best to help his brothers. He was a very wise man and a hero.
Favorite clone is Cody! XD Something I like about this episode is how Cody's scar is just barely healed at this stage of the war --- you can see how it's still reddish and scabby in places, probably from his helmet and sweat irritating it, and even some gnarly lines where stitches or staples were. I also like how Rex loaned Cody one of his pistols, then later he chooses his classic rifle (DC 15A).
my favorite clone is arc trooper fives because he just acts so cool through out the clone wars from nearly being put to sanitation to becoming a arc trooper I just think that is sick just to mention I also like the clone trooper caption rex
I love how Cody trusts Rex so much that whenever he just point blank shoots a “clone” in the head Cody’s reactions is just woah Rex what are you doing?💀
4:59 They actually went back and censored that after the premier. In reruns on Cartoon Network he just said "WHAT, WAS, THAT" I assume the Disney+ version is the original
the lore was 1 standard guy (the spindly dude from episode 1) was 2k credits apiece and relied on walls of fire/following orders blindly the Commandos were about 100 times more expensive, needed for more unique roles, and while needing initial orders, followed it in their own way. The biggest appeal when they debuted, the voice modulator, could also be spotted easily due to the monotone pace.
Heavy was my favorite clone for such a long time(not including rex at least) and so much so to the point I named one of my lego clones heavy in memoriam as a kid.
One of the few bad things I'll say about TCW is that when this episode introduced Commandos, they were a force to be reckoned with, and then as the series went on they slowly became "B1s that do flips sometimes and make wobbly noises." The voice changer thing doesn't reappear a single time after this episode, they wear a disguise exactly one other time (and even then it wasn't a separatist droid), and just in general they become less threatening.
