Thank you for the great comments about Bogota. I love to visit, but not to live there. Security is a big issue, outside the north of the city. The system and infrastructure still needs tons of improvements.
Its very grey, the sun never comes out, everyone is angry because everyone hates the jobs they are able to get, traffic is hell. Only good if you are into dining, shopping, in a fraction of the city. Don't do it
I've lived in Bogota for the last 3 years for several months every year, and I can tell you that this guy is talking a lot of fluff. He's totally sugar-coating it. And he''s totally out of touch with his audience - talking about DN's earning $150-$200K a year. Bro, most DN's don't earn that, most DN's live in hostel dorms. If someone WAS earning $200K/year, they could like in luxury in most countries in the world. He talks about Carulla (super-market) - I can tell you from personal experience that it is VERY expensive - most things there cost much more than the UK (where I am from). He talks about opening a Colombia bank account, as if you can just walk into a bank and open an account. Nope! You need a long--term visa for which you need a lawyer and lots of red-tape, then you can get a "Cedula por extranjeros" (ID card for foreigners) which will allow you to open a local bank account. He talks about how to not be a tax resident in Colombia by simply staying less than 183 days/year - guess what? Most countries have that rule. It's not unique to Colombia. Oh, and he totally fails to mention the crime situation. It's so common to have your phone robbed in broad daylight that many people (including myself) carry an old phone in public in the event of someone sticking a gun to our face.
Indeed 200k is ridiculous, not even CEOs make that much here, you only need to make 3k-5k a month to live like a king in Colombia, thats what a mid to high level executive makes here, and honestly other cities in the country are much cheaper and safer. Bogota is the most international/cosmopolitan city that is true. As for the bank account, you don't really need a local ACC if your stay for 6 months at a time, just use you home countries bank.
I have been in Bogota many times, great place to visit for a week or two. Not sure about living there. I would prefer the outskirts of the city such as Cajica where the quality of life is much better. If you go there make sure to visit Andres Carne de Res if you like steaks.
Thank you for sharing the video. I love the Andino shopping mall 😍 you said is affordable for living there, I'm curious to know how much money I need to buy an apartment complex in that place. Anyway is beautiful video. Thankbyou once again and keep great job 👏 ❤
@@robertmiur2388 But it is the most inflexible and annoying bank as well. I have Bacolombia for my business, but BBVA for my personally. Davivienda is an excellent pick as well.
how do you stay for more than 180 days in Colombia? you can only get two 90 day visa per year in Colombia as a tourist. and can tourists open a bank account in Colombia if you spend less than the 183 days there?
The 90-day tourist stamp is visa-free entry. It's important to know this difference to avoid confusion. On the other hand, the digital nomad visa is easy to get, if you have income and health insurance. Some people had success opening a bank account just with your passport - but you need a good reason for it. Even with a cedula (id card) and a migration visa, Bancolombia made problems for opening a bank account as I have no income from Colombia. Looking forward to my citizenship...
I've been retired living here in Cuernavaca Morelos Mexico for many years. Im wondering what would Bogota Colombia give me that I couldn't get where I already am? I pay about $400 USD for a 2 bedroom furnished apartment here.
Thank you, Javier. I would worry about sticking out in a place like Bogota. I am 6'3", 250 lb. Black guy with a beard and bald head. I know that the Afro-Colombian population in Bogota is less than 1%. Would I have any security concerns there?
Given my own experiences with my odd mix and features, I’d say many would find you extremely alluring yet intimidating but still exotic to them. Just make sure you can speak and understand Spanish.
Yes, you would stick out in Bogota. Perhaps less in other cities like Cali and Caribbean coast. I stick out at 6’ with white/tan skin. I’m taller than most Colombians. Colombians were jeans in every city that isn’t the beach-that helps blend in. I don’t think you’d have major security concerns given your physical stature. Like anywhere in Colombia-research good neighborhoods and take normal precautions described in many Colombia security videos here on TH-cam.
There is an estimated one million Black people in Bogota. In all of Colombia, you would not seem out of place for your color. But height and weight yes. But those are things that would presumably make you a lesser target. Racism here is so different than in the USA, its almost too difficult to explain. I think your security concerns would be similar to other foreigners, if not a bit improved from gringos. Being careful, being in the right places at the right times. And seemingly, so much petty crime is pretty random. I feel quite safe here the two years I have been here in a smaller city.
Ii live here. The black population is 0.5-1%, about 50k to 100k. If you live in a safe neighbourhood, its absolutely fine whatever your race. A friend of mine got pickpocketed and he's 6'4, but unlikely to be dire fly confronted, average height among older people is probably 5'4, and younger people are often 5'8 or so lol. I'm short back home so love it here lol
Bogota's murder rate is half the level of Philadelphia. Half. Petty street crime is much more common in the bad areas, but in the good areas where rent is $600pm or more, its safer than most US cities. Skin color is kind of irrelevant here as so few black people, I've never seen racism in anyone under 50.
This is good but I still worry about security in Colombia. I'm a white guy, pale skin with red hair. I feel like I stick out in hot countries because of my appearance. If I go to a beach and take my shirt off I'm basically a mirror. And I don't speak Spanish (yet). Could I actually live in Bogota more or less like a local, or like I would at home?
I know a few gingers here who are local lol. Its much more european feeling here compared to the tropical places. Safe areas here are comparable to London's safety

You are not talking about prices of water electric security and gas plus internet.OHA can be up to 200 usd. I am Colombian and the prices there are for some who makes at least 10 thousand a month .Can't stop talking to digest 😂 no wonder from Venezuela 😂
Would you like to see more boots-on-the-ground coverage of cities where you can live in affordable luxury? Leave a comment and let us know!

Wow this guy is an awesome presenter! Great content too, team
Thank you very much!
I swear you’d bring a second wave to travel agents with your presentation skills 👏🏻

Did he say $150-200.000 USD per year? How many digital nomads are making that kind of money?! Much appreciation for the video, none-the-less.
Software developers easily make this kind of money
Futures Traders and also Fund Managers can make that kind of money

I do! Marketing agency owner. Took me two years of long days to make it happen.

Guau! Súper claro! Este video se guarda y se vuelve a ver
Great video 🎉🎉🎉
Bogota is the city of eternal traffic, but zonal T is 100% walkable
Yes and no. Rush hour is a disaster. But usually it's fine. And Uber is very cheap.

Saludos de Mexico Pa, Bogota, aqui vamos! loved your video!
For $4k per month, you can live very well. No idea what he’s talking about at $200k.
Yes!
Do Brazil next. Doesn’t get enough love on The main channel
Adorable price? Well that could be for those who have USD salary 😝 😉 locals could be very hard to live in that area of the city.
Great job 😅❤🎉
Javier looks like a regular guy…I like that! Keep it coming 😃👍
Any recommendations on colombian banks to use?
Bancolombia is the best bank in colombia
@@robertmiur2388 But it is the most inflexible and annoying bank as well. I have Bacolombia for my business, but BBVA for my personally. Davivienda is an excellent pick as well.
@robertmiur2388 gracias thanks
Bancolombia is nearly a monopoly
if you dont care about atm fees, Nu bank is amazing, they give 12% apr on a regular checking ACC!
$4k per month puts you in Strata 6 which is the highest.
watch out Andrew. You've found a new video guy for Nomad Capitalist.

you can renew tourist visa ONCE per year with ease.
I watched another TH-camr who paid $137 for tacos in NYC
Magic is in the air in Colombia but Im not sure you can feel that in Bogota. Maybe Cali, or in the Caribbean Coast
Definitely in Medellin
It is nice to live in luxury in the Global South rather than the western world.

Bogotá is as dangerous as Miami. Would you live in Miami if it was affordable ?
I’m Scottish and live in Cali I’m red headed and lived here 37 years and nobody even looks anymore,,,,you’d be fine
@@samatr2839 No, I would not go to Florida. I do not like the weather and there are too many US-americans. But I get your point.
what can you say about Medellin Columbia in comparison with bogota Columbia?
shorts weather, too many tourists and all the problems that brings
yep overrun by US tourists already and a lot worse in general (except from the weather)
You can pay utilities with cash at efecty, punto gana, bancolombia etc..
🙂👍
