To address the topic of the outfits. Videl is wearing the attire of the people of the village, since she agreed to stand in as the sacrifice for the monster in place of the girl. She is wearing her usual clothes prior to that scene, but presumably they asked her to dress the part for the ritual. As for Gohan, he is not dressed like Vegeta. His outfit is inspired by Piccolo and it's the gi he wore while training with Goten and Videl early in the Buu saga.
This movie basically popularised dumb Broly, even the games adapting Legendary Super Saiyan use this version despite him being more talkative and eloquent in that one, instead of saying Goku's name over and over.
So true, it tainted him so bad that people think he just just yells "Kakarot" all the time, definitley not helped by DBZA acting like it was his trigger word. He called him Kakarot because he heard Vegeta call him that, and he hates Goku's aura more than Goku, as it reminds him of the assholes who stabbed him as a baby. This movie was written by someone who just didn't get the first movie, and now the fans take it as gospel to Broly's character, it's such a shame.
Which is crazy that people look at this movie amd not the actual 1st broly movie. People are always huffing about sequels not as good as 1sts, yet claim to not like broly cuz of this movie and not the 1st one. He had actual personality in the 1st one and dialog. Here, he probably had a 6yr concussion and a zenkai boost.
There were 2 versions of this movie the one you watched and the other one had heavy metal as a soundtrack which was very fitting to how the movie was this version is very naked in terms of how the movie was
All full blooded saiyan have vegetable names. Their home world Panet Sadala=Salad Vegita=Vegetable (When you combine Vegita and Tarble's name they form Vegetable) Tarble=Vegetable (Vegita's younger brother) Kakarotto=Carrot Bardock=Dock(a japanese root veggie) Broly= Broccoli Gine=Negi(spring onion) Paragus=Asparagus Raditz=Radish Nappa=Nappa Cabbage Cabba=Cabbage Caulifa=Cauliflower Kale=Kale (Bardock's team) Panbukin=Pumpkin Seripa=Parsley Tora=Tomato Totepo=potato Honorary Goha: RIce Namekians have instrument names. Then Pan has a very interesting name. From her Saiyan heritage Pan is named after food, not necessarily veggies but still food. From her Human side Pan is a name of a demon from Greek mythology that fits with the naming scheme of Videl=Devil and her Grandad Mr. Satan. Form her caretaker a Namekian, Piccolo, Pan is also a wind instrument. Neat huh?
Dragonball Fashion Corner FAQ: The dress Videl was wesring was an outfit she got from the village they saved. Probably just to have some fun with a new design. As for Gohan, that's not Vegeta's outfit. He was wearing his own version of Piccolo's outfit. He's had various versions of piccolo's outfits through out the majority of the series, with the other most prominent outfit being the saiyan armor he got on Namek. Gohan's gi in this movie was colored a dark blue, but in most other media its closer to piccolo's purple gi. The "black goo" is a quirk of the art that probably should have been corrected. Wet clothing and other porous objects are often painted as a darker layer to appear wet. Doing it on the skin isn't something I've seen often and now I see why, looks strange.
Just answering some questiontions: -Videl outfit is probably just her cosplaying as "sacraficial village maiden", -Gohan's outfit is most likely inspired by Piccolo's outfit (they didn't get the colours right tho), -Ki in japanese is the life force (Qi in chinese), while gi is the outfit/robe (after karate gi, traditional karate outfit).
Some background on this version Broly from the first film - that's right version. What we like to call _Z Broly_ is no longer a part of the main Dragon Ball continuity. The Broly we all know, and love is someone you'll see if you guys decide to watch *Dragon Ball Super: Broly.* We can him _Super Broly_ - pretty easy to remember. So think of this as a "what-if" story much like all of the Z movies. This Broly was a freak of nature with a power level capable of leveling Planet Vegeta a couple hundred times over. King Vegeta wasn't exactly fond of him and like in the TFS version - had him killed. Unfortunately, he did a rather crap job of doing it. So, when Frieza blew up the planet, Broly saved himself and his father from annihilation. As an infant, Broly was seated right next to a baby Goku in the Saiyan nursery, and Goku being a baby - was an avid crier. If you've ever been next to a wailing baby, you'd know it's not exactly Mozart. An infant Broly would then subconsciously associated discomfort with the Saiyan he was seated next to - Kakarot A.K.A Goku. Goku having killed Broly in movie 1, now desires revenge - and due to the manic nature of his character (and the Legendary Super Saiyan transformation degrading your mental capabilities until your about as cognizant as a Saiyan Great Ape) all he can really say is Goku's name. 1:52 Toriyama loved his puns when naming the Saiyans - as all pure blooded Saiyans are indeed puns on various vegetables. Kakarot (Goku) = Carrot Bardock = Burdock - a Japanese root vegetable. Vegeta = Vegetable Broly = Broccoli Paragus = Asparagus Raditz = Radish Nappa = A Japanese term for "leafy greens" such as cabbages and lettuce. Even the word Saiyan is an anagram of the Japanese word "yasai" which you guessed it - means vegetable in Japanese. There are loads more, but we'll save them for when you meet those characters firsthand in Dragon Ball Super. I wonder which movie is next? My money is on Fusion Reborn - as after that there's just the Dragon Ball Super movies: *Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods* and *Resurrection of F* - which cover the earliest parts of Super.
Or you could say super broly is a reincarnation of Z broly. Because a lot of character traits from Z broly was transferred into super broly. Akira toriyama personally watched the source material to adapt broly into dragon ball super, so he watched the broly trilogy and even expressed that he likes them. Akira toriyama did that so he can keep the broly character that the fans familiarized with intact. Just throwing out a different perspective out there, not to say you're perspective is wrong. You can view super broly, the same, different, reincarnation or whatever. It really doesn't matter whichever you prefer.
I think they SHOULD watch Bio Broly, imo it’s the best of the 3. And after Fusion Reborn they have Wrath of the Dragon still to cap off the original Z era
Also... Keep in mind, Goku nearly killed Broly at the end of the first movie.... And remember Saiyan biology, with every near death experience a Saiyan gains a massive power boost Broly from the jump had WAAAAAY too much power, that was already making him mentally unstable in the first movie... Then in the 2nd movie after almost dying, he had even MORE power added, he was already crazy from the overflowing power in the first movie, now ontop of that... the zenkai boost pushed him EVEN FURTHER into insanity than he already was That's why it makes sense that he is more coherent in the first Broly movie, but in the 2nd movie hes just a flat out raging, psychopathic murderer
You can tell by the movies at this time that the anime staff had no idea what was coming. Goku being dead here cements this was not having a chance to fit in with the main story.
@@fireeaglefitnessmartialart935 Videl didnt know about super saiyans or anything like that tho she also wasnt aware of how strong Gohan or Goten were, and im pretty sure she didnt meet trunks till the tournament and goten and goku had never directly met so his familiarity here is also odd so no it doesnt really fit
Y’all should’ve watched broly the legendary super saiyan movie before this sequel, for context on broly’s origin story. How broly became who he is. Maybe you can react to it next time but if not then after the next.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 Oh I didn’t know that, then y’all got to watch the original version of that. The abridged does not do it justice when it comes to lore. The abridged series before the video starts always recommend “to support the official release” for multiple reasons but mainly because the intended purpose is not to feed you lore, world building, or accurate information. The intended purpose is to feed you laughter and that’s the gist of it. I never thought y’all would react to anything beyond dragonball Z abridged,I’m glad y’all are taking dragon ball seriously but if you guys want to take it more seriously then y’all have to watch the original movies for insight and context.
In every single movie since the third one Piccolo has shown up to save Gohan at some point. It was pretty much a given that if Gohan were in trouble Piccolo should swoop in and save him. Hence the fakeout joke with Krillin.
@@WhistleDungeon OH RIGHT! I forgot that happens in the beginning. I was thinking about later on when PIcccolo shows up mind controlled. That's why I thought that movie was an exception.
So Goku's Kakarot name was explained back in DBZA for you, in episode 23 or 24 (after Ginyu body-swapped with Goku); Vegeta explained that everyone called him by his Earth name Goku which was given to him when he fell on Earth (by his "grandpa" Gohan) and he's calling him by his Saiyan name. ("...so does that make me Ginyu?") Speaking of that episode, to the name pun topic, someone might've mentioned it but aside from Saiyans being named after veggies, you've also got the Ginyus named after dairy products--Ginyu himself being Japanese for milk ("ginyuu"), Burter being butter, Jeice being cheese, etc. Also it's cool seeing you react to this and the upcoming ones since they're on my to-watch list as I go through DBKai Recut in Japanese after finishing DB Recut (which I'd recommend!); I do remember more... questionable Goten/Trunks antics in the next one too 😂
@@BigJT246 Chi Chi would get all huggy and just give him the apple since there was no valid reason for him not to. Goten was being treated unfairly. And as a little child its gonna bother him.
@@BigJT246 Chi Chi is only tough when it comes to studying. She absolutely spoils Gohan and Goten when it comes to food. She also does not like anyone hitting her sons. Gohan's tutor did, and she threw him out of the house
A lot of you guys’ criticisms of Broly are pretty much universally shared across the community; all intimidation and beef but no actual substance. He has his fans of course and having 1 movie for him would’ve been fine but people were not a fan of the fact this shallow version of Broly got 3 whole movies dedicated to him as the main antagonist. It’s good that in 2019, there was a Dragon Ball Super movie (which is after the Dragon Ball Super series) that basically rebooted the Broly character entirely, similar powers and appearance but an actual personality and fleshed out backstory. I look forward to whenever you guys reach that one in particular. Keep up the great work 😊
Saiyan names are vegetable puns: Kakarott - carrot, Raditz - raddish, Broly - broccoli, Vegeta - vegetable (duh?), Nappa - kind of japanease cabbage iirc, Paragus (Broly's dad) - asparagus. In fact pretty much all DB names are puns of some sort (Freeza troops are after fruits, Ginyu Force is after diary products, Freeza is fridge - ruler of all food products, lol; and yes, Bulma family is after underwear)
Expanding on this: Freeza's family: Cold, Cooler, and ancestor Chilled. Chichi: Milk (makes sense because her father is the Ox King), Goku (just looked this up) translates to "the amount of rice one needs to eat in a year to be sustained" while Gohan translates to rice (a grain product), which ties into a double pun with his daughter Pan (bread product) who also follows the tradition of her mother's side (Satan, Videl/Devil) since Pan was a Greek god of pure chaos incarnate (who only later became a general god of nature) and is the second most common depiction of Satan (being a horned goat with humanoid characteristics since he was... a satyr) All Namekian offspring (namely the ones from when Piccolo was still considered a demon) are named after instruments (Piccolo, Bongo, Tambourine, etc.) while all Native Namekians are plays on/associated with the word Snail (Nail, Cargo, Slug, etc.). And the names for the Supreme Kais are all based on various real world deities, while others like Kibito (the guy Shin/East Supreme Kai fused with) are named after different states of being (in his case he translates to "attendant") Also Krillin=Chestnut (because he's bald, not kidding that's the reason according to the creator) and his daughter Marron is French for Chestnut. And the weirdest/most disgusting? Dr. Gero (and his descendent from the latest DBS movie Dr. Hedo) both mean "Vomit", his wife in expanded material is Vomi (also "vomit") and his son (who 16 is moddled after) is Gevo, or the act of Vomiting *shudder* Other villains have: Cooler's minions are named after salad dressings/condiments (Salsa, saladore or literal "salad dressing", Mayonnaise), Garlic Jr. and all his minions are named after spices/seasonings, And Bojack's whole crew are word puns associated with the Japanese words for "Arrogant, Inhuman, and Brutal" Lastly, we all know the Majin connection with Bibidi, Babadi, and Boo, but it extends to everyone related to the Majins. Even Babadi's servants who participated in the tournament are derived from incantations. (I won't repeat them all because it would make this wall of text MUCH larger) Going any further would lead into spoiler territory so I'll stop.
I’m 7 months late but I wanted to chime in on Gohan’s outfit, like most have said it’s based off of piccolo’s Gi or essentially the one he wore as a kid , the one during the android saga and before he went into the HTC. But you could also say it’s a combo of Goku and Chi Chi’s as well the belt for Goku and his shoes based on Chi Chi’s like she wore in OG dragon ball. It’s honestly one my favorite outfits that he’s had and I wish he wore it more. A Gohan original that should have stuck with him.
The outfit Videl was in is the same one they had the little girl in when she was the sacrifice. Gohan's outfit is like Piccolo's without the ruffled collar. And you have seen him in it before. It is what he wore during his mini training arc with Goten and Videl.
This entire movie has a very strong "written by Toei staff" feel, even moreso than the last one imo I love how everyone is like "DO NOT watch Bio Broly!", people really are SICK of this dude :^P If you are looking for (this version of) Broly being portrayed as more interesting character, honestly, you really only get the first Broly movie, THAT is where he is at his best (but he really is still hit or miss there) I am actually one of the few folks who enjoys the "Broly was traumatized by Goku crying" backstory, cause there is a bit more to it, and it's symbolic of the core difference between him and Goku as presented in the first movie, but yeah, this Broly really was a one-trick pony and really didn't need to be brought back twice, haha Broly's original creator, one of the main staff guys for the movies at the time, is kinda notorious for being obsessed with Broly and going on record that he couldn't think of a better villain after Broly, and kept bringing him back because of this (make of that what you will) And as far as fandom is concerned, yeah, generally folks really do just love him cause he is so jacked- DBZA's version of the first Broly movie kinda makes some veiled commentary on the strange disparity of Broly's coolness factor (Vegeta: "That's so dumb...! But he's so cool...!")
Did y'all ever watch the first one? I couldn't find it on your channel. If not please react to the first movie, it's so good and broly doesn't scream kakarot the entire movie.
Funny enough, in the video game: Dragon Ball FighterZ, a certain character. (I will not give out the name could be spoilers to Dragon Ball Super) They had quote to Z Broly. This person said; Compared to my anger, yours is nothing but a childish tantrum! 24:04 What Ken said about breaking backs: Do you two remember what happened to Gohan in the Cell Saga and in the Bojack Movie? 26:36 That's their father. Goku has to motivate his sons to make them fight and make sure they can win a fight. With or without him.
The navy blue outfit Gohan was wearing here is based off Chichi's fighting outfit from the original series - he's dressing like his mama and it is adorable
Goku was an illusion there, brought by Shenron. He came to hype Gohan and Goten up, so they could use more power (they weren't trying hard enough, just like Gohan vs Cell)
Just an intangible spirt there to motivate his sons. It's a dead giveaway when Goku's Kamehameha hits and Broly's energy attack is not slowed or pushed back at all.
Vegeta, the planet, the King and the prince are all a variation on the beginning of the word vegetable, Vegeta has a brother named Tarble which is the end of the word vegetable. Sayains are known as Saiyia-Jin in Japan because its a play on the word Yasaiyan, which translates to vegetable, they are the vegetable people and all of them are named after vegetables. There's a lot of naming conventions like this throughout the series like Frieza being Freezer in Japan and his grunts are named after fruits while the Ginyu force and Ginyu are named after dairy products. Toriyama was really sick while writing the Frieza saga and he hallucinated that his freezer was alive so he named a bunch of those characters after things in his freezer.
The planet that was being destroyed was New Vegeta. It was destroyed by a comet, which was why Vegeta and crew were lured there by Broly's father. The original planet Vegeta was the one destroyed by Freeza.
I know this was uploaded a while ago but I'd recommend seeing the first broly movie aswell, he's way more in character in that one then this because I think being resurrected screwed with his brain
I thought the Family Kamehameha was one of the best moments in the DB movies. I didn't think Goku assisting Gohan & Goten diminished their win in any way, if anything it elevated it especially if you believe that Goku wasn't physically there. Another reason I like this movie is because it's one of the few movies where Goku isn't the main focus or the one to beat the big bad(this coming from a Goku fanboy).
These old movies from the 90's originally came out every six months in japan while the anime was still airing, that's why there are so many of them and why they're not very long. They rarely have much substance to them because of the short production times and lack of ties to the actual story, so they're like longer filler episodes that have better looking art and animation than your average broadcast episode. Gohan dressed like that while he was training for the tournament where Goku came back for in the Buu saga, that's about the episode range that was airing at the time when this movie came out. So you got Gohan with his training gi, Videl with short hair and Goku is still dead.
Vegeta's outfit is dark blue in Buu Saga. Gohan's outfit in this one is dark purple, just like Piccolo, actually. You can also tell the difference by the shape of his collar: Vegeta's one is round, Gohan's one is V-shaped, like Goku's orange one. Piccolo used to have a round one like Vegeta, but it changed into a V-shaped like Goku and Gohan since the Cell Saga, or more specifically, the Artificial Humans Arc aka the Androids (or Cyborgs, but whatever)...so basically after his 3 years training with Goku and Gohan to prepare themselves to fight the Androids that Future Trunks came to warn them about it. And that was the only thing Piccolo ever changed in his outfit in all of DBZ series (both in the anime canon and in the official manga)...Gohan, on the other hand, just kept changing all the time, taking in turn style's influences from Chichi, Piccolo, Vegeta and Goku from time to time, in fact.
The word “Saiyan” is a pun on the Japanese word for vegetable, “Yasai”. In fact in the og Japanese dub, they are “Saiya-jin” & the “jin” is used to label a person. So Saiya-jin is essentially the vegetable people. Kakarot-Carrot Broly-Broccoli Raditz-Radish Turles-Lettuce
I think Videl had on that princess outfit to take on the position of the pretty sacrificial girl for the monster on the mountain. And Gohan wasn’t wearing Vegeta’s outfit, he was actually wearing Piccolo’s outfit. Which is a purple gi. Vegeta wears a blue tank top. And lastly, the planet seen exploding on the flashback wasn’t the saiyan planet, it was the planet they all 1st fought and beat Broly on in the 1st movie which took place around the Cell saga. Also, there’s 1 more Brody movie that a lot of people will tell you to avoid. For decent reasons, it is considered the worse of them and probably the worse Dragon ball movie period, but it has some decent parts that you guys may still enjoy, so it’s up to you both. The other 2 different films after this are absolutely amazing, though. Cant wait for those.
35:17 I think Broly never really was a villain, the crying is actually just a psychology factor, everything about goku or anything related to him reminds him of his past, that’s why he transforms or gets mad. Then there is the stabbing from king vegeta and the explosion too, he was literally traumatized, growing up to a problematic dude who only urges for fights and death around him, even due to the fact that he has his berserker form, making it even worse.
I'd honestly recommend watching the original version of the first Broly movie. This movie and Broly Abridged don't do the character justice and are what made the majority of the fanbase think that Broly's just a dumb brute who hates Goku because he cried and yells "Kakarott!" all the time.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 BARDOCK's Movie makes so much sense if you two decide on another 🔥🔥🔥🔥DBZ Film. We love Definitely Not Definitive here in my part of Memphis 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Yeahhh Broly is just ooga booga eye candy, the culmination of every steriotype of DBZ, screams alot, powers up a lot, super omega buff, etc.😂 In Super they gave him more depth. Also Gohan uses that Gi at the start of the Buu saga, its not exclusive to this movie, and its not a homage to vegeta or anything😂
...The Japanese Artists at the time always like to play "Dress up" with the female characters. They gave themselves a reason to have Videl be dressed up in a wholesome manner. Videl is a wholesome female character. ...once you watch more anime, you'll notice how they like playing dress up a lot.
@@thribs what outfit wasn't more or less wholesome with Vidal? I mean I never seen her in anything even close to what Bulma ever wore. Only asking cause I've been wrong before, I just can't remember Vidal being dressed up in a overtly sexual manner in DBZ. unless your referring to that "one joke" from buu bits.....does that count? lmao.. ((maybe?))
Darth Maul was well liked even before the Clone Wars. If you watch the choreographer of Phantom Menace talk about Ray Park - the actor who plays Darth Maul, he says he's an incredible martial artist and acrobat above even himself. If you think about it, even without many lines or screen time, people loved him for being able to take on two awesome Jedi and beat the master of the two. Plus, he almost ran over little Anakin with that speeder :D He could've stopped that whole mess from happening... Anyways, Broly doesn't have a whole lot going for him in a 45 minute movie and if you recall, it took all hands on deck to give their energy to Goku in order to even stop him. I'm sure when you two get to Super, it might give him more depth. I don't know, because as big of a Dragonball series fan I am myself, I never watched that.
I think the Namekian dragon balls are much larger than the Earth’s dragon balls and Earth's dragon balls don't have a password that is only the Namekian dragon balls, and I think it was because Goten was in a tight space which is why Shenron didn't come out.
All of the saiyan names are after vegetables: Kakarot = carrot Vegeta = vegetable Raditz (goku's brother) = radish Broly = brocoli Other characters have other "themes" for their names. For example the family of Bulma are all clothing (specifically underwears) Bulma = bloomers Dr. Brief (her dad), well, "brief" = underwear Trunks = also underwear xd
The opening sequence was the Original from the Show after Cell. We Gotta Power is a banger. I miss the original tracks. Don't forget to check out some of the game OP's. Final Bout, and Ore wa Tokoton Tomaranai!! from Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 are two of my personal favorites. Some of these Opening cinematics are better than the games, but these two hold up today!
"I couldn't tell you why I hated him." I can tell you. In the words of TFS Vegeta: "He's so cool! But he's so lame! He is literally a giant f&cking baby!" The Broly movie from Super is the Clone Wars to his character. Broly from Super is so fleshed out that there are times you want him to win. Or, at least, not to lose. However, it takes place after the Super anime, so you have some time to wait.
Apparently, kakarot was supposedly also in the Dragon Ball universe as a Saiyan name. And each of these movies are iconic but they are not related to the main story.
So, couple of things. Kakarot is Goku's Saiyan name. Goku was launched into space alone as a baby, so he has no memory of what name he was originally given. He was named Goku by his adoptive father Grandpa Gohan whereas Bardock is Goku's biological father. Remember the DBZA movie Bardock's revenge? Vegeta on the other hand obviously has no idea what name Goku's adoptive father had given him and since he is a Saiyan supremacist, he insists on using Goku's Saiyan name, Kakarot. The second thing with Gohan's suit being similar to Vegeta goes back to the Frieza saga. If you remember in DBZA, Vegeta eventually teams up with Gohan and Krillin forming the "Team ThreeStar" where he also gives both Gohan and Krillin traditional Saiyan armor. So yes, Gohan wearing similar suit to Vegeta is because of Vegeta as it was literally given to him by Vegeta. Lastly, name puns: Saiyans are all food, including the Japanese name Saiyajin is a Japanese word pun for the word Vegetable. - Goku/Kakarot = Carrot - Vegeta = Vegetable (Just in English) - Broly = Broccoli - Raditz = Radish - Nappa = Refers to leafy vegetables such as certain types of cabbage or spinach. - Bardock = Burdock There are obviously many more. Mr. Satan's family are all demonic. - Mr. Satan, obvious. - Videl, Devil, yes, but clearly not backwards unlike Ken claimed. :P - Pan, potentially refers to the Greek God Pan. Piccolo's family are all named after musical instruments. Freeza's family refers to cold things like with King Cold and so forth. Brief's family is all about undergarment/clothing puns. Namekians are all slug/snail puns. All of the God's of Destruction are alcohol based puns, but you'll meet them later. So many more.
It’s all in pretext of the first movie pearagus explains he raised broly to be his weapon for revenge but he instead turned him into a near mindless psychopath bend on torturing and murdering everything insight that he lost control of
That's internet speculation. There's nothing in the actual movie to suggest that there's a deep psychological association. Wouldn't Broly be more traumatised at the sight of Vegeta, who looks identical to his dad, (aka the guy who stabbed him)? Heck, the Super movie even fixes this by having him attack Vegeta first and have no relation to Goku, so even the writers knew the original had a poorly written plot.
Neither one of you are entirely right but not entirely wrong either. So y’all share a lot of half-truths, the reason broly dislikes goku is because of fate. Compare and contrast broly’s origin story and kakarot/goku origin story and then you’ll find the answer is clear. The executive producer of broly the legendary super saiyan emphasize his point that everything good that happens in goku’s life is everything bad that happens in broly’s life. Goku and broly are supposed to be the yin and yang ☯️ two sides of the same coin, it was always going to be destiny that they face off because they was born on the same day, which is rare! And they had two completely different lives, which is also rare. In short broly can’t stand hearing kakarot, looking at kakarot, sensing kakarot, and being on the same planet as kakarot because broly is jealous that kakarot had a better life than him. Everything wonderful that happens in goku’s life broly thinks he deserved that. Broly has never felt love or compassion since the moment of birth broly only knew hatred and anger, plus with his legendary super saiyan abilities that added complete insanity. So that makes his hatred and anger a 100 times worse than normal. Hopefully I shed more insight like this, I enjoy sharing insight. I had a blast typing this!
@@Lord_Of_Night I disagree with what you said. There is deep psychological association with broly, I’ve just explained it.broly and goku represent yin and yang, if you seen all of dragon ball then you’ll know goku had a very fortunate life that others didn’t have. Goku had such a fortunate life he also have a fortunate afterlife that he get to keep his body which is extremely rare when you go to other world. “The super movie” didn’t fix anything, akira toriyama keep that aspect relatively the same,in the first broly movie Paragus wanted revenge for king vegeta just like in the “the super movie” paragus wanted to take his vengeance on the next big thing which is his son, prince vegeta like in the “super movie” and Paragus order broly to attack like in the “super movie” both Z and super have zero intention on getting revenge on vegeta, both variations have no hatred for vegeta but in both versions Paragus try to install his revenge into broly but it backfired on him. Twice! You can say it’s poorly written, that’s fine. But the “super movie” did the exact same thing but in much more expansion way because of a longer movie duration.
My biggest gripe with this movie is the Kamehameha part. In the original Japanese dubbed Goku was literally grilling gohan and goten about how they cannot protect the earth without him. But in the dub Goku was encouraging them to try harder. Meh
@@regalknight6597 I’m fine with either or. It’s just that one particular scene the original did it better. Goku being this serious to his kids is amazing not the “you guys can do it come on” Goku telling them “you don’t do this the whole world is doomed. You guys seriously can’t protect the world without me??” That hits so hard with gohan after goku died.
@@金城CHRIS That's completely fine, it's just it feels kind of odd as a strategy to even have to do that when Gohan at this point should be prepared to be earth's consistent protector. But again, nothing against what your used to.

Dragonball Fashion Corner FAQ:
The dress Videl was wesring was an outfit she got from the village they saved.
Loved the title of this comment 😂
Just answering some questiontions:
-Videl outfit is probably just her cosplaying as "sacraficial village maiden",
-Gohan's outfit is most likely inspired by Piccolo's outfit (they didn't get the colours right tho),
-Ki in japanese is the life force (Qi in chinese), while gi is the outfit/robe (after karate gi, traditional karate outfit).
Gohans outfit was his training outfit for the tournament
They weren't trying to copy Piccolo's gi down to the color plus Gohan's oufit is what he wore during his training for the tournament.
Thanks for answering our questions 😀
Kakarot (Goku) = Carrot
Bardock = Burdock - a Japanese root vegetable.
Vegeta = Vegetable
Broly = Broccoli
Paragus = Asparagus
Raditz = Radish
Nappa = A Japanese term for "leafy greens" such as cabbages and lettuce.
It really doesn't matter whichever you prefer.
dude you summarise everything so nicely well done and thanks for the hard work
I think they SHOULD watch Bio Broly, imo it’s the best of the 3. And after Fusion Reborn they have Wrath of the Dragon still to cap off the original Z era
Next is Fusion Reborn and then Wrath of the Dragon 🙂
Also... Keep in mind, Goku nearly killed Broly at the end of the first movie.... And remember Saiyan biology, with every near death experience a Saiyan gains a massive power boost
Broly from the jump had WAAAAAY too much power, that was already making him mentally unstable in the first movie... Then in the 2nd movie after almost dying, he had even MORE power added, he was already crazy from the overflowing power in the first movie, now ontop of that... the zenkai boost pushed him EVEN FURTHER into insanity than he already was
That's why it makes sense that he is more coherent in the first Broly movie, but in the 2nd movie hes just a flat out raging, psychopathic murderer
i cant wait for you guys to watch the new broly movie
Do not watch the next one

An easy way to tell the earth dragonball size, is that Gohan had the 4 star ball on his hat as a kid at the beginning of Z.
("...so does that make me Ginyu?")
Speaking of that episode, to the name pun topic, someone might've mentioned it but aside from Saiyans being named after veggies, you've also got the Ginyus named after dairy products--Ginyu himself being Japanese for milk ("ginyuu"), Burter being butter, Jeice being cheese, etc.
Also it's cool seeing you react to this and the upcoming ones since they're on my to-watch list as I go through DBKai Recut in Japanese after finishing DB Recut (which I'd recommend!); I do remember more... questionable Goten/Trunks antics in the next one too 😂

A lot of you guys’ criticisms of Broly are pretty much universally shared across the community; all intimidation and beef but no actual substance.
Expanding on this:
Freeza's family: Cold, Cooler, and ancestor Chilled.
Chichi: Milk (makes sense because her father is the Ox King), Goku (just looked this up) translates to "the amount of rice one needs to eat in a year to be sustained" while Gohan translates to rice (a grain product), which ties into a double pun with his daughter Pan (bread product) who also follows the tradition of her mother's side (Satan, Videl/Devil) since Pan was a Greek god of pure chaos incarnate (who only later became a general god of nature) and is the second most common depiction of Satan (being a horned goat with humanoid characteristics since he was... a satyr)
All Namekian offspring (namely the ones from when Piccolo was still considered a demon) are named after instruments (Piccolo, Bongo, Tambourine, etc.) while all Native Namekians are plays on/associated with the word Snail (Nail, Cargo, Slug, etc.).
And the names for the Supreme Kais are all based on various real world deities, while others like Kibito (the guy Shin/East Supreme Kai fused with) are named after different states of being (in his case he translates to "attendant")
Also Krillin=Chestnut (because he's bald, not kidding that's the reason according to the creator) and his daughter Marron is French for Chestnut.
And the weirdest/most disgusting? Dr. Gero (and his descendent from the latest DBS movie Dr. Hedo) both mean "Vomit", his wife in expanded material is Vomi (also "vomit") and his son (who 16 is moddled after) is Gevo, or the act of Vomiting *shudder*
Other villains have:
Cooler's minions are named after salad dressings/condiments (Salsa, saladore or literal "salad dressing", Mayonnaise),
Garlic Jr. and all his minions are named after spices/seasonings,
And Bojack's whole crew are word puns associated with the Japanese words for "Arrogant, Inhuman, and Brutal"
Lastly, we all know the Majin connection with Bibidi, Babadi, and Boo, but it extends to everyone related to the Majins. Even Babadi's servants who participated in the tournament are derived from incantations. (I won't repeat them all because it would make this wall of text MUCH larger)
Going any further would lead into spoiler territory so I'll stop.
The kids from Gohan and videls school were named after school utensils (erasa = eraser and Sharpner = sharpener)

This entire movie has a very strong "written by Toei staff" feel, even moreso than the last one imo
I love how everyone is like "DO NOT watch Bio Broly!", people really are SICK of this dude :^P
If you are looking for (this version of) Broly being portrayed as more interesting character, honestly, you really only get the first Broly movie, THAT is where he is at his best (but he really is still hit or miss there)
I am actually one of the few folks who enjoys the "Broly was traumatized by Goku crying" backstory, cause there is a bit more to it, and it's symbolic of the core difference between him and Goku as presented in the first movie, but yeah, this Broly really was a one-trick pony and really didn't need to be brought back twice, haha
Broly's original creator, one of the main staff guys for the movies at the time, is kinda notorious for being obsessed with Broly and going on record that he couldn't think of a better villain after Broly, and kept bringing him back because of this (make of that what you will)
And as far as fandom is concerned, yeah, generally folks really do just love him cause he is so jacked- DBZA's version of the first Broly movie kinda makes some veiled commentary on the strange disparity of Broly's coolness factor (Vegeta: "That's so dumb...! But he's so cool...!")
Where is the original soundtrack of the movie?
Good question
Did y'all ever watch the first one? I couldn't find it on your channel. If not please react to the first movie, it's so good and broly doesn't scream kakarot the entire movie.
this was my favorite dbz movie when I was growing up glad yall are watching it!
Man the dub music really makes a difference with these movies. The original Japanese music is..... interesting
Wait... you skipped the first movie substituting it with the abridged version?
18:05 THE DISRESPECT!!!
The original music for dragon ball z movies are fire you two could have been banging your heads to hajis kitchen
I swear the one liners, were crazy this episode love it
Broly was definitely giving Gohan Cell Saga flashbacks with that back breaking bear hug😂😂
Adult Gohan’s movie look is just Piccolo’s tunic open to show off how jacked he his.
The music in this movie is so good
Vegeta, the planet, the King and the prince are all a variation on the beginning of the word vegetable, Vegeta has a brother named Tarble which is the end of the word vegetable.
Cant wait for you to meet the dragonball super broly. Hes a much more fleshed out character in that movie.
Damn, they didn’t watch the version with the rock soundtracks 😭
It's okay if y'all don't watch the next movie and skip to the next. It'd honestly be for the better.
Kakarot-Carrot
Broly-Broccoli
Raditz-Radish
Turles-Lettuce
Ever going to go back and watch the original broly movie and not the abridged one?
35:17 I think Broly never really was a villain, the crying is actually just a psychology factor, everything about goku or anything related to him reminds him of his past, that’s why he transforms or gets mad. Then there is the stabbing from king vegeta and the explosion too, he was literally traumatized, growing up to a problematic dude who only urges for fights and death around him, even due to the fact that he has his berserker form, making it even worse.
Wheres ION they played the best shit in that movie
You forgot the best music
Saiyans all have vegetable themed names like that, in Japanese Broly is pronounced similar to Broccoli, Raditz is Radish, etc.
26:12 Now this, puts a smile on my face 😌
4:50 you're thinking of namek's dragon balls. those things are like, kickball sized
The saiyan name pun is vegetables, like, the prince is called Vegeta(ble).
And Gohan is in Piccolo's outfit.
I'd honestly recommend watching the original version of the first Broly movie. This movie and Broly Abridged don't do the character justice and are what made the majority of the fanbase think that Broly's just a dumb brute who hates Goku because he cried and yells "Kakarott!" all the time.
Family Kamehameha is still a top 10 dbz moment

"I couldn't tell you why I hated him." I can tell you. In the words of TFS Vegeta: "He's so cool! But he's so lame! He is literally a giant f&cking baby!"
The Broly movie from Super is the Clone Wars to his character. Broly from Super is so fleshed out that there are times you want him to win. Or, at least, not to lose. However, it takes place after the Super anime, so you have some time to wait.
Yeah Broly’s best appearance was in the first one where you watched the abridged version of
Apparently, kakarot was supposedly also in the Dragon Ball universe as a Saiyan name. And each of these movies are iconic but they are not related to the main story.
Gohan and Videl kinda reminds me of Goku and Chi Chi 😂😂
Lastly, name puns:
Saiyans are all food, including the Japanese name Saiyajin is a Japanese word pun for the word Vegetable.
- Goku/Kakarot = Carrot
- Vegeta = Vegetable (Just in English)

Vegeta said it best on DBZ Abridged. "He's so cool!... But he's SO lame!!!" That's Broly...
It’s all in pretext of the first movie pearagus explains he raised broly to be his weapon for revenge but he instead turned him into a near mindless psychopath bend on torturing and murdering everything insight that he lost control of
Kakarot = carrot
Vegeta = vegetable
Broly = broccoli
Nappa = I think it’s a type of cabbage?

No broly was stabbed as a baby and he associated the trauma with goku crying
@@Lord_Of_Night king vegeta didn’t stab broly it was a random sayian under vegeta orders
Wrong, broly is a born psychopath, he simply hates goku because he annoyed him while he was a baby. Did you actually watch the movie?
My biggest gripe with this movie is the Kamehameha part. In the original Japanese dubbed Goku was literally grilling gohan and goten about how they cannot protect the earth without him. But in the dub Goku was encouraging them to try harder. Meh
I'm confused. Are you implying the japanese version is better?
@@regalknight6597 I’m fine with either or. It’s just that one particular scene the original did it better. Goku being this serious to his kids is amazing not the “you guys can do it come on” Goku telling them “you don’t do this the whole world is doomed. You guys seriously can’t protect the world without me??” That hits so hard with gohan after goku died.
@@金城CHRIS I'd prefer the dubbed version but sure
@@warronrampage7371 not against your opinion, I grew up with the original dub so of course I prefer it
@@金城CHRIS That's completely fine, it's just it feels kind of odd as a strategy to even have to do that when Gohan at this point should be prepared to be earth's consistent protector. But again, nothing against what your used to.
Hope yall don’t forget to watch the DBZ movie about Vegetas Brother!!
