Shown on Ed Sullivan in May 1963. I wasn’t born yet, but it seems like the United States was in an optimistic mood. A young, strong, president who would take us to the moon. The decade would end with the USA reaching the moon, but with lots of scars. As always, our nation prevails. We will prevail through our current challenges.
When I first saw her it was Bye Bye Birdy immediately my mind went to elvis presley and I remember praying that they would perform together in some capacity and then lo and behold my prayer came through LOL in Viva Las Vegas! I love each one of them and I'm so glad they discovered each other and became lifelong friends and I feel like a kindred spirit somehow feel connected to these gentle Souls beautiful people on the outside and on the inside.

I'm looking forward to seeing Ann-Margret! I have heard stories about this appearance. Without going into all the details, the legend goes that Ann dressed a bit too risque for Ed (he still had stricter standards for what was acceptable for his family show at this time), and he tried to get her to tone down her appearance somewhat. At first, she seemed to comply, but when it came to the live show, she defied him. If you search Getty Images, you will find pictures of Ed with Ann on this show (notice the same set backdrop), and she's dressed much more conservatively, completely covered up, so it must have been during a dress rehearsal. When it came to showtime, she surprised Ed with the dress you see in this live footage. I think it was the only time she appeared live on the show as a result (her filmed screen test for "State Fair" had been shown the previous year). This is the tenth consecutive "Bye Bye Birdie" themed video on this channel leading up to the 60th Anniversary of the movie premiere (April 4, 1963).
There are stories about A-M and her, uh, "activity" on the set of BBB. It's kind of a rumor, but people said the reason "Kim" got an expanded role plus those extra numbers opening and ending the picture was the Director George Sidney's infatuation with her.
@@TomElvisSmith I have not read it, but, apparently she does not mention much of BBB at all in "Ann-Margaret My Story ", her 1994 biography. The year after Birdie, there was an affair with Elvis during Viva Las Vegas. Her "wild life" seems to have ended with her marriage to Roger Smith in 1967. She remained devoted to him throughout his long progressive disease. IMHO while she was not a great artist, she was an extremely hard worker and her shows worth the price of admission.
