This is a short video of some of the great features that the LX470 has! This is one of the best overland and off-road capable vehicles that I've owned!
First Gen Toyota Sequoia 4wd Limited is also very similar to the 470. Same engine and 4wd system with also center diff lock. However 01 to 04 are the best option since they had a manual gear shift selector from High to Low gear for the 4wd. My parents own one and is at 300 K plus miles, runs like a dream still.
Thank You!! That would be awesome, I would love to see a video about the First Gen Sequoia. They sure are nice to own and they run like tanks when it snows, one of the best 4wd systems of that time.
I have an 04, around 280k miles. Great all around visibility. I like that this still has buttons and practicality. Not good MPG but it's all about the smiles per gallon.
You literally cant go wrong with any Lexus. After 300k miles, it still runs like a champ, no squeeks or rattles, and looks great. Im partial to Lexus from 2005-2010......some of the beat made vehicles ever made no regardless the model. I've had the IS300, GS430, RX.....truly bulletproof in everyway and build quality is second to none.
Oh man congrats! They are built so well! The best part is the more you own it the more you're going to fall in love with it. Especially when you go out and see what it can do off-road!
Solid review. In comparison, I know a lot of American 4x4s that routinely pass 300k miles without major repairs, but I'm not sure if the same can be said about the peripherals. Referring specifically to HD Suburbans, pickups and Avalanches, if anyone has direct experience please chime in.
Thanks for commenting Nicholas! I know that you can get 300k miles out of the heavy duty series American trucks (Duramax, PowerStrokes, Cummins) but I don't think that the 5.3's can make it to that point without having the notorious valve tick, or burning oil! The gaoline fords, and dodges definitely can't. With that being said the "bulletproof" setup to me would be a Chevy 6.0 and the 4l80. If you maintenance those like you should and don't beat the bricks off of it I'm sure it'll last! Again, thanks for commenting. I like comments that make us think!
I work at a shop that does engine work on these trucks. Let me tell ya they don’t need much work. The occasional valve cover gasket and timing belt kit every 100k and the rest is just maintenance. Excellent trucks and very comfortable
Yep, only thing is that the center diff lock just turns it into a 4WD instead of awd, they are wonderful vehicles, my wife has one, and I've had 2 80 series (basically the same drive train with a solid front, lockers front and rear, and an inline 6)
On top of all that the engine is bulletproof, the Japanese factory that builds these performs an MRI on the engine block before it gets built to check for micro-fractures
My grandpa gave me his 01 LX470 with 310k on the odometer for my 16th birthday. Now I’m 23 and an RN and still drive it. It’s been in the shop once since I got it for the suspension. 430k on the odometer and it still drives and feels better than my girlfriend’s 2023 Explorer. My grandpa told me last year he regretted giving it to me but my grandma made him. He was mostly joking of course; told him I’ll sell it to him for $15k. Only downside to the car is that it drinks gas; but not having a car payment makes up for it.
Taylor you’re so lucky bro!!! I’m sure you’re a huge Toyota fan after having this for the past few years. 01’ is such a great year too. My first Lx was the same year. And yes you’re 100% right. These drive better than new cars, it’s incredible. Take car of it and it will get you to 1,000,000 miles. I did a video of a 530k mile original drivetrain ‘01 LX470. Drive like mine that’s has 160k miles. It’s insane! Cheers Taylor! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Awesome, our LX470 looks exactly the same! I don't have the navigation unit but do have the mark levinson audio, I have since updated with a a wireless android auto capable unit using a beatsonic harness which keeps mark levinson system intact, very pricy but very worth for it to be plug and play and retain its audio quality that Lexus engineers intended.
I agree completely, had my lx470 for a few years now and still love it. But ditch the hydraulic suspension, it's the only unreliable part on the car and it's much better off without it. Standard springs with a 2in lift allows for good 33in chunky tires.
Glad you're loving your LX! I found out that if you change the fluid in within the hydraulic suspension it's going to last 300k+ mile. It's oil and is constantly being used.... so you have to change it. I did a review on an lx with 500k miles..original engine and transmission, it had the proper maintenance and the hydraulic ride lasted to 400k miles. But the changed all the fluid religiously! Thanks for watching Jason!

They're more reliable than this one. This year 2002 has a timing belt that you have to change. The 2011 has a chain. You can't beat them. I'm in the market for a newer model as well!
Unfortunately it will not stay up at high speeds. In my experience it's about 20ish mph. If you want one that can stay in the high setting up to 60mph you'll have to get yourself a new Land Rover Defender lol
I have a 2017 ford f-350 platinum and it has 275,000 miles everything works perfect the only thing I had to do is a transmission flush at 260,000 miles.
I have a family owned 1999 Land Cruiser 100 series. I like the new Toyotas too but mine has a quarter million miles and if/when my parents pass it down most likely to me I will just drive it until it's totaled. Best car to ever be made.
100% agree. The Lx470 is one of the best Land Cruisers that have been made. You'll be able to get 500k miles on the original engine and transmission if you take care of it right. There's one that I reviewed on my channel and that 530k miles all original. Congrats on having one in your possession bro. Some people would kill for that!
I know right.... But look at this way. What car in its class has much better fuel mileage. That's the only thing that keeps me from complaining. It just is what it is. Too bad they didn't make a diesel version here in the U.S that could get 30mpg. That would be too good!
Nice I basically have the pickup truck equivalent which is the Vigo Hilux done 300,000km and while I’m not gonna do the things that I use my 89 Hilux for I have no doubt that could probably pull a massive GMC or take out a building just like the 89 has done
These are built like tanks...with a 4.7 v8. Unloaded 11-14mpg... Loaded with gear 9-11mpg.. buddys love theres... Sequoias of the same years are almost as good . Land cruisers being the best.. I have a 400k mile 5vzfe v6 4wd 96 4runner fully manual which gives me H2 .. unloaded 19-22mpg.. loaded 15-17mpg.. all stock drivetrain.. not optioned with the e-locker.. i stilll consistently pull my buddies out when they get stuck... My budget will be for a 1st gen Sequoia in the future... Always keeping the 4runner though
@@reviewedbytim it is... I am the 3rd owner and previous owners didn't actively maintain it .. Please if possible a video regarding differences of the Sequoia vs lx470 vs Land cruiser
One thing too note is that these are 20+ years old now and OEM Lexus are Service are extremely expensive. I bought a 2014 GX460 with 97k miles on it last February and I spent 6k at the stealership bringing it back up to speed. If you don't buy oem Lexus Parts it will ride and perform like shit. All Lexus 4x4 Trucks are expensive to maintain. Every single suspension component starts to wear out underneath and if you don't have a lift in your garage then it's a pain to work on. These have hydraulic suspension and is extremely complex and expensive to fix when things go wrong. The Gx460 has KDSS and there are certain hydraulic pumps and tools you need to work on these that only the dealerships have. They are way better than Range Rover aor suspension that constantly fails but they are still expensive maintain and buy parts for. It's only going to get worse as they age. Land Cruiser prices are expensive for a reason.....There is nothing complex about them and are not expensive to maintain.
You're right about that. They're not cheap but for the money you're going to spend and the reliability/ quality it's worth it. When you're driving a Toyota you know that it's not going to leave you stranded and it's going to ride better than most new vehicles on the market. I have a lx470 with the original hydraulic suspension. It's so butter and smooth! Cost to maintain..but I don't mind. Plus they hold excellent value!
Got 150k on a 1999 Landcruiser I only had to use in winter weather these last 2 years been owning it since 2004. Only thing I changed was timing belt which just routine maintenance n did the water pump since I was there already . Drives like new still
Same, my 99 has 200k and I let it sit for almost two years because I was out of the country. Popped the battery in and put fresh gas in the tank. Acts like it never went to sleep. What a machine.
Considering I drive a 2000 Camry with 454 K miles on her I couldn't agree more that there's nothing better built than a Toyota/Lexus product. I bought my Camry slightly used with just over 700 miles back back in 10/99 as a broke college kid who had better credit than since but I was determined to keep the car going for at least 200 K but by the time 200 K hit I figured I bet I could double that and soh I'm quickly on my way to 600 k. Other than routine maintenand and 44 or 5 sets of motor mounts and 3 sets of rear struthe car has been complethe trouble-free and in fact I still have never even serviced the AC And it's still blows cold. That's pretty amazing considering the car has spent its life with me here in Miami Beach. I would be kind of nervous to have all that weird weird electronic suspension crap but considering that is basically a Toyota Land Cruiser and I've seen at least 3 land cruisers with North of 700 KI guess it's better to have it in one of those than anything else.
Wow congrats on your Camry! When it comes to all the suspension components on the LX470 and Landcruiser I can tell you that it's going to last a long time you just take of the simple maintenance. I have a video on my channel with one that had the original hydraulic suspension for over 400k miles. Truly incredible cars! Congrats on your Camry and your good experiences again! Cheers!
The 470 and 460 are great, but when driving them they feel like a 4runner. The LX and Landcruiser feel like a tank! They are built a bit better. Also, the factory hydraulic suspension on the LX is sooooo nice! It makes the truck float over bumps! Full tank gets you around 400 miles I believe. Not 100%. Depends on how you drive it. HWY or city...
Yeah they're going up in value at the moment. I can tell you that I've had quite a few vehicles in my past and this has been the best. Hands down! I wish you the best in getting one. You're not going to regret it!
They are not the same chassis. They drive very different. A GX is on a 4 runner chassis. The LX is a land cruiser. When you drive a LX or LC one day you'll be shocked.
The GX is the Land Cruiser Prado, the 4Runner and FJ are based of it. The GX is superior due to the front coil suspension. The LX/LC changed back to the coil over suspension in 2008. The GX is not based on the 4Runner but rather the other way around. The GX/LC Prado is the only Land Cruiser sold in many countries. We just get the big one, and the GX. In Australia they have them all, and Africa I believe, most folks here think there’s only one Land Cruiser because we only have one. But we actually have two.
Is a 1999 Lx 470 with 140k miles on it and in year 2000 the engine caught fire. Been fixed since then. That was the only problem stated in carfax. Is this a reliable vehicle to by today for a daily driver? Even with that history?
Absolutely! If it was repaired correctly and doesn't seem to give you any electrical issues then you have a great one! Glad it was fixed and not thrown away! These cars are built to last a very long time! Congrats on owning one!
@@reviewedbytim I'm trying to find a good gx or lx in my area but being in Illinois there is SO much rust. It's a real killer over here with Toyota/Lexus. And everything else tbh haha
I recently bought a gx470. I wanted the lx but couldn’t find one that was local for a decent price. Although I do love the gx I Wish I would’ve waited and bought an lx.
Bro you did good! They both have their differences but the good thing is that you still made a great choice! Plus, your GX is going to hold value so you can sell it at anytime!
A vehicle with centre diff clocks is not superior to any vehicle that does not have one. A vehicle that is twin locked (front and rear) would be superior.
Appreciate your comment James. But I've seen Landcruiser's out crawl jeeps with fr/rr lockers many times. Locking the center diff is so much more expensive to do than buying lockers for the front and rear. Now triple lockers are a whole new deal! But, that's just my experience. Thanks or watching!
Love these vehicles but don't know much about them. I'm going to look at 1 for sale in a couple days. 03' lx with 146,000 miles for 13k. Seems to good to be true. What all should I be looking/checking for if you don't mind me asking... Also what's your tire/wheel set up? Lifted?
That's great price if it's not rusted out. Be very aware of that. It's a big issue with them. Also, I had one that was lifted.. but I sold it and now I'm looking for an lx570. If you get one that's an '03 and up you're going to have a 5 speed transmission instead of the 4 speed. Both are great... just the 5 speed has a better 1st gear. More pep when taking off. If you get it make sure the timing belt was changed and it it hasn't been make sure you change it! Tire setup on my was Italia Rims on 33's Michelin. If you get one with stock height don't lift it until you've really enjoyed it. Spend the money on tires instead. They're SUPER capable from the factory! Hope you get it. It's going to be the best vehicle that you've owned!
@ReviewedByTim Gotcha. Really appreciate the response and luv the channel bro. I'm just getting into these 470s and Land Cruisers. I never realized how big they were!

I bought me an LC200 with 49k miles, so comfortable and feels solid, especially when closing the passenger doors. Drives like a truck though, and loves to drink⛽️ 😂😂😂.
Congrats on the LC! It's one of the best vehicles that you can get! I know they drink a lot but you're not going to find another vehicle in it's weight class that get much better. It's just the price of having the best! Cheers!

Thank you! I'm blessed!
Can you keep the ride high always up ? Orbit adjusts on its own depending on speed
Unfortunately it will not stay up at high speeds. In my experience it's about 20ish mph. If you want one that can stay in the high setting up to 60mph you'll have to get yourself a new Land Rover Defender lol
Worth every penny
Thank you Judice At-Large! I'm with you on that bro!
@ReviewedByTim currently working on a 3rd gen 4runner but my next project will be a 2008 GX or LX. Hopefully 🙏
Bro that's going to be wild! I wish you the best! Put it on TH-cam!
I have a 2017 ford f-350 platinum and it has 275,000 miles everything works perfect the only thing I had to do is a transmission flush at 260,000 miles.
Bro I know about the 6.7's. I actually grew up in a diesel family. Just sold me LLY a few months ago. Congrats on that beast! You can't kill them!
It's 5 years old. But good to know some ford's don't fall apart lol
All will become useful to me as I drive kids to school or mall but they are amazing cars
This is the best family vehicle!
Beauty. More than what i need atm
Thank you! It's more than most people need lol! Thanks for watching!
@@reviewedbytim my dad bought it just weeks before Toyota announced discontinuation...
Wow beautiful
Thank you! They're built really well!
My only gripe with the lx470 is the gas mileage and the body rust
I know right.... But look at this way. What car in its class has much better fuel mileage. That's the only thing that keeps me from complaining. It just is what it is. Too bad they didn't make a diesel version here in the U.S that could get 30mpg. That would be too good!
Nice I basically have the pickup truck equivalent which is the Vigo Hilux done 300,000km and while I’m not gonna do the things that I use my 89 Hilux for I have no doubt that could probably pull a massive GMC or take out a building just like the 89 has done
Bro you're living it up!! I would love to have something like you have one day! Cheers mate!
I think this body style also came with a solid front axle for a little bit
We didn't get that model here in the U.S.. They do exist. It's called the 105 land cruiser. I will get myself one of those one day!
That thing is clean!!!
Thanks brother! I’m blessed!
Great vid, more please!
Yes sir! I've got a lot more coming your way! Thanks for watching!
I like how you didn't explain what a center locking diff does, just "it's better than one that doesn't have it"
Wish I had more time in the short. There's a full vid on my other lx470 on may channel. There is where I explain
Automatic folding mirrors is pretty convenient for off roading too
Super! You know....
Bro you got yourself a beast! And manual trans! Let's gooo! don't get rid of that thing! Too cool! Cheers!
@@reviewedbytim it is... I am the 3rd owner and previous owners didn't actively maintain it ..
Please if possible a video regarding differences of the Sequoia vs lx470 vs Land cruiser
This is why I want the LC100
They're so nice Colton! You'll have one soon! This is going to be a great year for us all!
Это же lexus lx 470 - судя по отзывам это надёжная-Super надежная машина!
Легенда!!! Legend
Лексус lx рулит!
Я благословлен! haha
As a former Lexus service advisor those things are solid
My man!
Beautiful man
Thanks Derek!
Lexus gx470 1998 with 82 k miles? How much do you think is worth?
GX470 wasn't in 1998. You're talking LX470? In that case... 25- 30k
All depends on the condition
Got 150k on a 1999 Landcruiser I only had to use in winter weather these last 2 years been owning it since 2004. Only thing I changed was timing belt which just routine maintenance n did the water pump since I was there already . Drives like new still
Wow low miles! That car is going to last you for the rest of your life at this rate! Congrats!
Cheers!
All fun games until G wagon square shows up 😂
LOL
I was going to argue with you about the center locking diff but then you said the adjustable antenna sold trade my wife for that right now
hahaha I with you! lol
That Lexus is a nice Toyota.
Exactly!
all my nissans have been like that too..no fading buttons on interior..GM on the other hand..
hahah you already know!
I have nothing but gm’s so I can confirm this is true
One of my favorite rigs to maintain 💪🏾
Yes sir! Checked out your channel by the way.. Looking real good bro!
@@reviewedbytim I'm trying to get like you bro!
I'm going to send you an email.
What do you think of gx470 and gx460 and what is the difference between these 3? Please also take a look at the range it gives on a full tabk
@@reviewedbytim Around 400 miles is good, especially for an LX. Bec the gx don’t offer a big fuel tank. I think 80 liters.
i still see these for a lot even with that amount of mileage and a bit uglier i love it though i hope to get my hands on one some day
Yeah they're going up in value at the moment. I can tell you that I've had quite a few vehicles in my past and this has been the best. Hands down! I wish you the best in getting one. You're not going to regret it!
kaizen baby!
Yes Sirrr!! Thanks for visiting the channel Jonny!
SHHHH don’t tell them this. This is one of the last hidden gems and it’s barely even hidden they’re so much still.
Bro these are getting so overpriced it doesn't make sense!
Lexus is luxury 🤩😎
You already know bro!!
The Rear Cupholders Are The Same As The Modern Ones
I'll have to check that out myself!
@@reviewedbytimBTW My Uncle Also Had A LS470 From 2004 But Recently Just Sold It For A 1990 GMC Yukon (psst the lexus had a limiter)
They made them simple and better back then
You got that right Tay! Thanks for watching!
I love the lx470 but o like the gx470 better. I know it’s the same chassis but I just like the body style better than the lx470.
This is like an SUV version of the LS400
Yup... LS400 is super nice!
Just a perfect car
Perfectly said..
I skipped after the first sentence because i already know why its superior in everything 😂😂😂
LMAO LOLOLOL
@@reviewedbytimim back my friend!
Real ones don’t need to be convinced lol. They already know those 100 series are solid gold. I regret selling my 200 every damn day
You already know Hayden! And, I would regret selling my 200 series too if I had one!
You are correct
I just need my girlfriend to say those words lol
Is a 1999 Lx 470 with 140k miles on it and in year 2000 the engine caught fire. Been fixed since then. That was the only problem stated in carfax.
Is this a reliable vehicle to by today for a daily driver? Even with that history?
Absolutely! If it was repaired correctly and doesn't seem to give you any electrical issues then you have a great one! Glad it was fixed and not thrown away! These cars are built to last a very long time! Congrats on owning one!
This is fire
Thanks brother! This is one of my favorite cars that I've owned! Very hard to beat! Cheers!
First black dude I’ve seen thats is into this overlanding off road stuff . I don’t feel alone anymore 😂🤘🏽
LMAO Let's gooooo!
Wow it has hydraulics in the front, too! My Gx 470 only has it in the back.
Congrats on having a gx! Those are great!
There is no beating Toyota /Lexus when it comes to off road superiority.
Couldn't have said it better myself!
Hell yea man have an 03 and love it. Whats the roof rack you have on there?
It's an old Thule! I want an '03! 5 speed tranny is so smooth! Thanks for watching!
i wish my life was exciting enough to need this. point A --> point B
It will be... Work hard and never stop dreaming. Put yourself around people that have the same goals as you. I grew up in a trailer park! Cheers!

The Land Cruiser is a World Class Vehicle!
Great lx my friend!
I appreciate that! It's one of the best vehicles I've owned!
@@reviewedbytim I'm trying to find a good gx or lx in my area but being in Illinois there is SO much rust. It's a real killer over here with Toyota/Lexus. And everything else tbh haha
Old School Lexus is the way!
The one and only!
Lexus quality 👍🏼
You can't beat it!
My dream car/SUV
So far, I can't find one that can beat it
I recently bought a gx470.
I used to have an LX but it’s too heavy and bogged down easily on muddy terrain. You did a great choice on your GX. I now have a 4th Gen 4runner
I miss when cars used to be built like this. My 2001 highlander still Runs well. And my 2013 rogue already has problems. Smh
I know! Those days are done!
The problem was that you bought a Nissan rouge. Not a Toyota
I did not know these things had a lowering system
Yes sir! And it's hydraulically controlled! Not air bags!
I got a gx470 and it’s amazing
I can't wait to get one myself! So nimble and built like a tank!
@@reviewedbytim idk what engine is in the lx470 but the 2uz in the GX is an amazing engine
Thanks for the kind words! A lot of people don't know about them. You're about to enter a whole new lifestyle lol. Super reliable luxury! Keep me updated if you get it! Again, thanks for watching!
@ReviewedByTim Lol. Will do. Quick question..the factory window tint (mirror tint) on the back windows..can that be removed or is that in the glass?
I bought me an LC200 with 49k miles, so comfortable and feels solid, especially when closing the passenger doors. Drives like a truck though, and loves to drink⛽️ 😂😂😂.
Congrats on the LC! It's one of the best vehicles that you can get! I know they drink a lot but you're not going to find another vehicle in it's weight class that get much better. It's just the price of having the best! Cheers!
I gotta say - that power antenna button sounded raggedy as hell lol
It's one of the less pleasing buttons... but makes up for it when you see what it does!
been wanting this or same year sequoia for too long man:(
Right! They're great!
So a Lx is a superior overlanding vehicle because it has lots of unsmeared buttons and a adjustable antenna?
"locking diff" The rest are just some things that make it better than anything else on the market. Durability.
