I had this today. The probe is in for at least 15 minutes but not much more. You can't eat or drink or 6 hours before. I have a sore throat and it was done almost 12 hours ago. It is very unpleasant and there will be gagging. The doctors and nurses were lovely and very good to me. I felt fine afterwards but a few hours later I was a little queezy and very tired. Worth getting it done in the long run as it leads to getting your heart fixed.
Getting this done under general anesthesia as the first attempt failed 😂

Really TOE? I thought that it should be TEE - as these abbreviations (not only TEE, but also TTE and some other) are used internationally - to it should be clear what is going everywhere. And I meet only TEE for transesophageusechocardiography. T for trans, the first E for esophageus, the second E for echocardiography I am not a MD or nurse (only orderly), but still as I know these abbreviations and their exact meaning.
Oesophageal is the spelling for many countries like Australia or Britain, so they call them TOEs

@@DrSardonicus I thank you for writing that in British English it is oesophagus, not only esophagus. But: please, accept that video is accessible not only in UK and many people don't know all "specialities" of British English (that is strongly affected by French language). And BTW, I am worried about that you will meet TEE in most countries of world, not TOE. Correct writing is surely good (I also hate wrong writing of some things in my* language), but using of transcriptions from other languages or dialects are the smallest problem. * - Czech

I’m in two minds about getting this. How unpleasant was it? Could you feel it inside you? Did you get sedated? Thanks for sharing xx
