  • This episode is the second part of Tokyo training trip. After a couple of days, I got rid of jet-lag and I had some of the most enjoyable training sessions I remember in a long time. Training with some of the best members of Japanese team was most of all great fun. They are really easy-going, but at the same time, I learnt a lot and trained hard. The most important was the quality of the problems - the routesetters take a LOT of time and care to make their boulder problems perfect - which means tricky, complex, powerful and technical at the same time, without possibility of cheating. It is really mind-blowing.
    I might have expected more parkour style but problems were still dynamic and required possibly even more precision and coordination than average World cup boulders. Thanks for the lessons, Japan!

    Man, I'm starting to believe natural endurance this is the big differentiator between people who climb really well and people who are merely okay or good -- not crazy innate flexibility, power, or crimping, or even body awareness, just the ability to accumulate tons of climbing time and stay healthy (plus, of course, stay motivated and happy). Keenan Takahashi mentioned on Hardclimbs that in his first year climbing he did a V10, but also that he climbed 6-7 hours a day, 6-7 days a week.

    • @theshozaya1
      @theshozaya1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      zoaxanthellae interesting thoughts. It seems like it’d be impossible for a normal person to climb that much, so soon, and at such high intensity without injury from overuse.

    I first though training 6 hours is to long and my skin would not be able to do this.
    But when you do many conditions boulders where you first have to figure so much out and give many tryings for one move, you dont get tired so fast.

    Imho, this super dynamic "new school" of INDOOR bouldering is closer to Parkour then it is to climbing..not a huge fun to be completely honest =/ but you know, it makes for popular clips on Instagram =( in any case, love your videos! HUGE FAN!

    • @shinrarango
      @shinrarango 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      at one level i agree, but at the very top level some of the boulder problems are truly beautiful. as long as they're not compromising difficulty for flashiness i can dig!

    • @gerardotelese5337
      @gerardotelese5337 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @drew13600 exactly, but for me that is kind of sad..and again, basically parkour ;D

    • @beccakreidler8290

      I think Adam does a great job of explaining how fan interest and watchability is pushing to jumping frog bouldering. As Adam says, a climber can redo a coordination problem 5 or 6 times in a 4 minute period. In power-up or power endurance, the boulderer can really only do it once if the route is pushing them to failure. It's a more Ninja Warrior approach to bouldering for entertainment value.

    • @colemantrebor6574
      @colemantrebor6574 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In addition climbers are now becoming so strong that its really hard to set powerful routes that provide good separation among climbers. For the dynamic boulders even if its physically easier, its a lot trickier to get it right in 4 minutes and is a much better separator.
