  • Lavender is one of the most fragrant perennials you can plant with many benefits extending beyond its sweet scent. Watch this video with Noelle, Horticulturist, and Education Director with Petitti Garden Centers, to learn more about the benefits of growing lavender in your garden. Along with beautiful blooms, there is so much more lavender has to offer. Lavender is considered to be deer resistant (yes, even in Northeast Ohio), and it's a great plant for repelling mosquitos! They prefer to grow in full sun environments, and they do well both in the ground and in container gardens. As with most perennials, we recommend fertilizing with ‪@EspomaOrganic‬ Plant-tone® and Iron-tone® to provide nutrients for those showy blooms. For unique color, try varieties such as 'Ellegance Snow' and 'Ellegance Pink'. For more traditional varieties, try 'Blue Cushion', 'Big Time Blue', 'Hidcote Superior', 'Munstead' or 'Phenomenal'.

I'm trying 2 different varieties here in N. Georgia. Our humidity doesn't go well with them but they're growing well in a gravel bed. We'll see how they survive this winter. Any varieties you know that do well here?

The best chance for success is checking that they are rated for your growing zone! Since we don't have much experience in your area, we recommend reaching out to your local, independent garden center for the most accurate advice!

I've started a Lavender hedge (ran out of $$ and plants), hoping to complete it next season. Is it easy to propagate, either through cuttings or division?

Clump division in early fall is easiest method of propagation. sowing seeds is next, then non-flowering (side shoot) stem cuttings, dipped in rooting hormone and planted in a well-drained soil is third.

my lavender keeps dying in my zone 8b garden. We get heavy thunderstorms everyday this time of year, they're drowning. 😒
