Ryan Gosling is so f*cking good in this movie. He really likes playing these silent characters that have a lot of internal emotions. But are effortlessly cool at the same time. I don't understand why some people say he's not a good actor because he only has one facial expression. His subtle acting is what I appreciate the most about him. He never has these emotional outbursts or over the top facial expressions that other actors have. Instead it's mostly internal and his facial reactions are very understated. Which I find very moving. The scene in the church where he's crying is a great example of that. He's just perfect for these kinds of roles. (like Drive or Blade Runner 2049). He's like a modern Steve McQueen. Btw Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are actually together since they made this movie. (2012). Married by now with two kids. At least it worked out for them in real life 😊
This is the movie when Ryan and Eva got together. I watched an interview at the time where Eva said the baby wasn't that good of an actor to stop crying on cue any time Ryan picked him up. She said it was like Ryan was his pacifier.
He does the motorcycle escape from the last robbery thru the intersection and then the stunt guy takes over. They did 22 takes and Gosling was almost hit every time.
This is such a wildly written movie, like here is the main character, that's his life, it is a bank robbery movie.... nope, dead, here is a main character that killed the previous main character, it's a police drama now, nope .... it is a family drama full circle.
Great half movie like No Country For Old Men, but I couldn't do it after Gosling's character left. Mendelsohn too, his partner in crime, is a fantastic character actor. Too much energy lost when they left the movie. I never even tried to finish it, but the Gosling section is Oscar worthy imo
I loved this decision of narration. A story in 3 acts. So different and unique. And loved the soundtrack. Definitely wished we got to dive more into this world in other stories, the writing itself felt so deep like reading a good book.
As a lifelong fan of pop art / pop culture I am about as unsophisticated as is possible in the most basic of literate persons. Despite the lack of depth in my cultural intake, I am still privileged enough to have seen so many amazing works such as this film, to have learned that the technical structure of which is known as a tryptic - a piece, be it a painting, piece of music or in this case, a film, all of which are defined as being made up of 3 individual elements each of which are interconnected in one way or another.
This one and No Country For Old Men are two of the greatest half-movies ever made imo. I just couldn't overcome the main character saying adios halfway thru

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendez began dating while filming this movie and now they are married and have 2 daughters. He is such a sweetheart and so is she.
Mac-Your sentiments Re: the first 2/3rds being amazing, & the last not so much, was EXACTLY what I felt about this movie. Great minds… FWIW-I haven’t seen this movie in forever, but when Ray Liotta SLOOOWLY leans into Cooper’s car has stayed w/ me ever since. Intense, creepy, incredible.
A perspective shift in the middle that puts the viewer in new shoes to challenge them and their opinions. Themes of vengeance, fatherhoods, cycles... Must sound familiar :P lol
AJ is the bad kid not Jason. AJ has had everything and Jason's dad was not all bad and he had nothing, too. Jason's dad didn't kill anyone and neither does he. AJ never knows he dad killed Jason's dad.
I just realized this, but this movie has a few similarities to TLOU Part 2, specifically the sins of the fathers, changing perspectives, and the theme of revenge.
It’s been brought up, but when I first played TLOU2, I thought of this film. Because of the perspective shifts and the way it draws parallels between “enemies.”
Movie is a little too ambitious but that's why I love it. 3rd act definitely not as strong but felt needed for the story. I recommend you watch Blue Ruin. Great independent movie
Looking forward to checking this out!! But it is 0300 rn and i woke myself up for no reason so I'm going back to sleep. Good night! Lol PS: a STRONG contender for hottest Ryan Gosling look lol

one of the best to ever do it, imo

This is one of my favorite movies no one ever watches it so I’m stoked for this reaction.
This and Drive are underrated
What are they rated champ?
How are they underrated?
I think drive is rated pretty accurate but most people don’t even know about this movie
i drive
Theyre pretty accurately rated ig you could make an argument for this movie but drive is very respected
The marketing for this movie was incredible, from the trailer you've never think where the narrative went
Oh wow, didn't expect this one to ever pop up. Amazing movie.

Supremely underrated movie! Great choice/reaction my guy 💯
This movie is so good ugh

a towering epic of fathers, sons, and consequences

From this same director I would recommend Blue Valentine, but it's no happy

Out Of the Furnace - 2013. Christian Bale, Casey Affleck, and Woody Harrelson. Great, dark movie.
Good call. It really goes in sync with this movie
Yooo I’m from Schenectady , my mom actually worked at the place Eva Mendez worked when she was a teenager.
An underrated masterpiece, in my book.
another classic

The sins of our fathers and generational trauma being passed down too.
A lot of This movie was filmed up around my home town around Schenectady NY
And on top of this the main character in Ryan gosling's movie drive it's supposed to be the son from this one all grown up

Cop shot first and Luke's fun went off as he was falling out the window. He killed no one, he punched one guy and threatened another.
That doesn’t make him any less of a criminal lol, people get killed for a lot less and dude would’ve probably served like 30 years minimum
great film
One of my fav movies. Probably top 15.
Top3 films for me
Great movie, kind of went under the radar. Good reaction
that score is so fucking nasty. tie it in with CHE CHE. duuuuuude.
I wholeheartedly recommend Red Dawn (1984) if you haven’t seen it. I think you’d love it
Looking forward to checking this out!! But it is 0300 rn and i woke myself up for no reason so I'm going back to sleep. Good night! Lol
PS: a STRONG contender for hottest Ryan Gosling look lol
To be fair, you love every movie but you got this one right
Sweet
Please watch Copland. Another great movie.
React to the Gifted staring Chris Evans and McKenna Grace
Have u seen Room (2015) with Brie Larson? would like to see your reaction?
ahhhh... place beyond the pines.... this was a terrible movie in the best way possible. only nihilism and depression
Damn I miss Eva Mendes
more ryan gosling movies jimmyyyyy! 😎
