    That's a pretty great deal but I already have the OM-1.I love my little Oly 60mm f 2.8 Macro but I have been very intrigued by the 90mm f 3.5 PRO after handling it a bit at a store and getting very addicted to very high magnification (I can get 4.5x FF equiv at the moment with my Frankemacro mod). I can't afford it this year so maybe next year. I just got my Oly 30mm f 3.5 Macro because I wanted a close-up performance for a wider angle/environmental perspective and I was lucky enough to snag it for 100 £ used on MPB which was hard to refuse. I can't wait to use it. I did get a used Oly FL-700WR and I am quite happy with it, it can't do the kind of speeds that my Godox V350 can do but, it's WR to be able to use it this winter and it can do bursts at lower powers like 1/16 and 1/32 for the 15 in camera focus stack shots. I do seem to get better IQ and rendition with the Oly flash than the Godox and I enjoy the pictures more, probably because of the larger flash head and the stronger and better colour-corrected light (my estimate is about 1 to 1 and a half extra stop of light). I didn't know that the FL-900 was WR and I thought only the 700WR was the only weather-resistant one, it's in its name.
    You should try the Olympus 40-150mm f 2.8 PRO for macro and close-ups because it's really good (not as good as the 300mm f 4 PRO but that lens can be too long sometimes), it can do 1:4 at 150mm, 1:2 at 150mm with 1.4x TC, 1:1 at 150mm with 2x TC. I got my favourite butterfly takeoff using the lens, OM-1 and Pro Capture 50 FPS, the butterfly took off and a hoverfly was so close to it that it looked like it was going to be a mid-air collision but (I didn't know that) the butterflies are so fast that out of 50 images I got 3 from the butterfly sitting on the flower to being out of the frame and they fly had no chance of ever hitting it.

    Micro Four Thirds have insane lens line-ups at the extreme ends. For macro they are definitely the best with the 90mm macro and at the long end they have equally brilliant wildlife primes and zooms that for the size, weight, weather-sealing and price(-ish) are unfound. Could you do a video with all macro Lenses for the MTF system ? How are fx the Panasonic Leica Macro-Elmarit 45mm 2.8 Lens and does it work proper on a OM camera ? Strange that there not are some of the good Laowa macro Lenses, like fx the 65mm 2.8, 85mm 5.6 and 90mm 2.8 for MTF mount !

    • @MicaelWidell
      @MicaelWidell  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Laowa has a great macro lens for MFT, the 50mm. There is no point in adapting the larger lenses to MFT, as they are a lot bigger and heavier - the 50mm is optimized for MFT and gives just as good image quality if not better. Sure you lose a tiny bit in working distance with the shorter focal length, but that's the only drawback. I might review some Panasonic macro lenses in the future, but honestly I don't feel very excited about them, as I am so happy with the OM macro lenses right now.

I do neither think that the Laowa 90mm 2.8 is too heavy and it is shorter with larger aperture than the Olympus 90mm 3.5, at $500 for the Laowa 90mm 2.8 Macro Lens it is much cheaper compared to the Olympus 90mm 3.5 at $1300 (normally $1500).

    I use m43, all Olympus so far, I am thinking a video/still picture balanced m43 camera body, Lumix GH6, even older still available GH5ii, are all superior to current all Olympus OMDs in terms of video capabilities. I can't see Lumix GH6/GH5ii lack of much still photography ability? Right or wrong? all can do focus stacking, I don't care in camera focus stacking. I wonder if Lumix GH6+Olympus 90mm be a better macro videography option meanwhile still not much weaker for macro photography than OM1+90mm. Macro photography is my 1st priority. Hope the deal comes to Canada someday before my next m43 camera purchase

    Thank you for the great review. I have had a question for a while now. Macro means 1x magnification which is life-size reproduction on the sensor. Wouldn't that be the same across every format (not relative)? life size is equivalent (exactly the same) on everything from m4/3 to 8x10.

    • @MicaelWidell
      @MicaelWidell  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Micael, could you please advise on the following. I have been a LUMIX shooter for years and have their lenses, but I own the Oly 60mm Macro and love it.
    My question is this. For someone who wants an OM body for macro only, which older used market Olympus body would be recommended that could give the high burst rate with electronic shutter like the newer OM-1 (for macro only) without the need for the other improvements?
    Thank you!

    • @Coldhin
      @Coldhin หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have the E-M1 Mark II. Internal focus stacking with up to 15 frames is already inside and it has fast enough burst rate to make any flash with AA batteries the real bottleneck. Be cautious that the focus stacking feature works only with electronic shutter. It also limits the max speed you can use (I can use up to 1/50th of a second in this mode, my camera doesn't let me use faster speeds).
      You can find it for 500 to 600€ on the used market. I don't know for the other "entry level" or older cameras but for me it's safe to say E-M1 II and higher will make you happy. If you have higher budget and don't mind about size the E-M1X seems to be a good value for money (800€ for an indestructible tank thats also very fast and ergonomic).
      The Oly 60mm is a real joy to use, but sometimes I needed a little more magnification. Raynox DCR-250 is the most popular option but I'm also very happy with my set of JJC extension tubes (AF still works with it since they have electronic coupling).
      Hope it will help.

      My goal is to have the best macro body for bracketing, not stacking, that can do the high frame rate flash sync (electronic shutter) without going to the OM-1.
      So it appears that the E-M1 MKII and MkIII are the next best thing to the OM-1, is that correct? Are there any other models that are closer to the electronic flash sync speed of the OM-1 than the E-M1?

      That Canon Rf 100mm macro shoots upto 1.4x not 1.25x max mag ratio. Biggest problem with that 100mm macro is stupid focus shuft feature coupled with useless SA control. Also those 24, 35 & 85 lenses were supposed to replace 1.8 EF lenses and in order to make them attractive to ef lens users Canon added .5x max mag ratio rather than being primary macro shooters.

    Very tempting. Do you still prefer the AK Diffuser? Was thinking the Cygnustech might be lighter and easier to quickly fold but it is less bright according to your tests and I also wonder if that ribbon that is used to affix it to the lens would interfere with the manual clutch of the 90mm lens. Do you have any experience with that?
    Also I was going to spring for an Mark II before I saw that deal and now I'm thinking... as you have some experience with the Mark I now, do you think the upgrades of the Mark II would be worth the extra cost? Mark II + 90mm lens with 10% discount and cashback would cost ~2.800,- Euro so it's not too bad but still.

    • @MicaelWidell
      @MicaelWidell  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I prefer AK because it conserves light better, you get a brighter output from it. Yes it interferes slightly with the manual clutch, but it's not a big issue for me. Cygnustech is also great, it is more lightweight and easier to pack. They both give a look that is the same.
      I cannot see any reason at all to go for the OM-1 Mark II if you are mainly doing macro photography. None of the improvements would make my macro photography easier/better as far as I can see.

    • @a.b.8375
      @a.b.8375 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MicaelWidell Thank you, my concern with the manual clutch interference was more in regards to the Cygnustech. Isn't that one strapped to the front of the lense? That's why I was thinking that it could slide into the groove when you pull down the manual clutch and then block you from getting back to auto focus.
      And yes, I'm more interested in Macro for this one. I still have my R7 for animal photography. I just heard that there were some unresolved focus issues with the Mark I (people were very angry when the Mark II was announced) but I can't find any comparisons for the Mark I and II for macro shots and how much that even matters there. Also the in-camera stacking is supposed to have an improved algorithm but I've not found much information on that either. Just some claims on forums. But probably not worth the extra 700 bucks. My main concern is the focus issues people report, have to look more into that and if it's actually better with the Mark II. Thanks for your time!

    • @MicaelWidell
      @MicaelWidell  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah there are small but powerful USB powered LED lights that you can put on top of your flash to aid in focusing. When you buy diffuser from AK diffuser I think you can get one with it. If you've bought a computer, smart phone, camera, or other tech product in the last 20 years you know that release prices come down quickly. When a new model comes out the prices of older versions drop even more. It's about timing.

      - Never buy a new version of camera
      - Never buy hyped gear
      - Always buy used gear from trusted sources
      - One can make beautiful images from cheapest/reasonably priced possible gear. Micael has few videos on the same.
      One last thing May be - Use your OM1 and 90mm for next 5 years and don’t upgrade
