I LOVE Restored!!!! I love the attention to detail. It makes what he does so valuable. I live in a 1912 Craftsman. In St Paul MN. I love this house! The kitchen is near original which is one reason I bought this house. Thank you Brett for you influence!
Thank you for this interview. I love Brett Waterman and Restored. I love the passion and enthusiasm he puts into every project. I love the respect for the property and designs; not just blowing out the walls for "open concept" and painting everything gray. It's really great how Brett teaches the audience about the different architectural styles and history of the homes. This interview is wonderful and really confirms that Brett is a great guy. ❤
Omg, it's you!! I can't find you in Canada. I actually thought you stopped the show. About every 6 months I do a 'Restored' and Brett Waterman internet search. I'd say I've been stalking (in a non-creepy restraining order way) but I can't find new episodes to even do that. All I ever wanted was my own house but I've been I'll all my life. I live vicariously through your clients. I'd give anything to have an old house restored by you, it's the only way I'd know it was done right and was safe. I sometimes envy the British on how they have their history system, it's great for the buildings. I just wish we could have more respect for the artisans they were and the materials that we no longer have. Even when anyone does something as simple as unsympathetically rips out good solid wood trim, I have to change the station, haha. They have a law on a certain percentage has to be Canadian content....some Canadian content could definitely go! I digress, I'm babbling, I just feel hope now that I may find your show again!!
Brett's show, while fun to watch - I will keep watching it - is not truly about restoration. There is a fixation on getting the doors, light fixtures and fireplaces authentic, but he and the owners otherwise are doing garden variety restoration. Knocking down all those walls, rejigging the entire floor plan - that is not restoration to the original design in most cases. Nobody could complain about installation of up to date stove, fridge, laundry equipment, etc. Everything else - Brett just goes along with the owners' tastes, authentic or not. So I'm not throwing the baby out with the bathwater, just asking that things be called by their true names.
@FrothingFanboy I too think that sometimes Brett doesn't get it quite right. Removing screen doors, patio roofs and television antennas just for asthetics is not practical. His obsession with huge refrigerators particularly irks me. In fairness though, he is restrained by budget and the requirements of the home owner. In some episodes money is unwisely spent on furniture which probably in some cases would not be what the home owner would choose themselves. In other episodes the budget does not allow for a full restoration, especially when there is lots of paint to strip. In one episode the wood panelling in the dining room remained painted when the other wood surfaces in the room had been restored to reflect the true authenticity of the original Craftsman design. Brett is not only a master craftsman but also is very professional in presenting his show to us viewers.
@@jeffrey3895 Brett Waterman doesn't restore houses so that the owners can live as the original owners lived, he modifies the restoration for current lifestyles. Hence, the giant fridges. Americans require this now. I'm amazed that he leaves one bathroom in houses, as was typical back in the day. No way is any house built with one bathroom today. As for walls, he usually restores original walls according to the clues that are revealed as he takes out the many updates the house may have suffered.
I have been trying to find a station that has current Restored shows. All we seem to have is reruns which is how I got here. This probably my 12th stab in 5ish years trying to find his show. I've even researched if he quit because I can't find him. I can't watch 99% of what is out there, even a show called 'This Old House' because they destroy the old house which is counter to what the show was originally about. They shouldn't call what most of them do is renovation rather than destruction. Our Canadians are guilty. Bryan Baeumler....ohm, his wife, just shoot me. I call tell you it's going to be an overpriced, sterilized, mostly white, boring as all hell house....every time. She even did it on their resort. How she has a business is beyond me because it's just pete and repeat. I don't think he is as restricted, he sees things broader. Magnolia, kinda the same thing but she does stretch out. Bret Waterman is the one and only. There is only 1 he dud I wasn't keen on and it wasn't even the whole house, just not my favorite style, which I didn't think there was one. I would die to have a restored house by Bret. If someone knows where to find his current shows, esp in Canada, please let me know. I still like the reruns but when you know what everyone is going to say and every scene, it takes the joy out of it.
I became a lover of old homes watching Bret restore homes with such passion and love.

All of the Restored episodes are on HBO Max. There are only 6 seasons. Brett posts updates about his life and show on his Instagram page.
