Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience Kyle! You have helped me improve my painting with your advice. I have the same French easel. I replaced the thumb nuts with wing nuts so I can tighten it better. I hope you find my suggestion to be helpful. Thank you again!
seventhsun1 , Thanks..I'll be back soon:) been working on several other things and also trying to figure out the logistics behind filming / editing/ selling my advanced classes. I'll probably do another free beginner class next week:) cheers!
Hi Kyle, I have a question if thats ok. How do you transport your small paintings when you use the paper supports? Once I'm at the car I can lay them down but not sure how to carry more than one at a time. Enjoying your videos very much.
I actually released a full length art instruction video through streamline publishing. Check it out here: lilipubsorders.com/products/kyle-buckland-courageous-color?AF-4902 thank you 👍🎨🙂
As a watercolourist I’ve decided to get back into oils and this is the first video of yours I’ve watched. I really liked your instructional style and look forward to going through your earlier videos.
Welcome back Kyle! Really enjoyed this painting. It’s good to have you back! I hope the opening and the show are a booming success. You knock ‘em dead you hear. Can’t wait for the advanced videos to start but I will. Again, good luck tomorrow!
Good explanation on how to do a lot of painting with bigger brushes and keeping the brushes simple when doing plein air. Great tip on the quantity of paint. I know I made the same error when I first started.
Hi! Just found you. Actually, saw you on streamline art show first. Glad I found your channel and will be watching all your videos and then move on to your advanced videos. How much are they? Thanks for your generosity and teaching. I think your very kind to want to help people get started.
lilipubsorders.com/products/kyle-buckland-courageous-color?AF-4902 Thank you 🙂 My first full length intermediate to advanced video is now available at the link above:)
Nice one KyleYou made a pretty but not so interesting sceneINTERESTING.....Learning how its all about the painting and not copying what is in front of you.....Bravo
I was looking at some of your paintings on your website with one of my young daughters. She's eleven. She told me to squint my eyes to look at your printing (like you suggest in your tutorials). I did so and was stunned to realise that the image almost felt like it was 3d. I literally felt like I was falling into the painting. The way you had laid out your picture, with cools and warms, lights and darks... I suddenly realised what impressionism is all about. For a fleeting moment I was in that mountain glade. After 35 years of studying art, I realised, for the first time, what art is actually all about. I guess that sounds a little silly or mawkish. But I realise now why realistic painting cannot carry the same emotional pull as in impressionism. Because your brain has to do some of the work, you become involved with the paing=ting in an intimate way that isn't really possible with realism or ultra-realism. Of course, it takes a master to be able to render an image that can accomplish that. I would love to be able to purchase a book showcasing your wonderful art.
This is a great demo! I wish there were a still photo of the finished painting to refer to while watching. Because for one thing, the video camera bleaches the painting surface as it balances the color of the whole scene. And for another, I find it useful to know where the painting is headed when I watch these demos. (Maybe there's an easy way to go back and forth in a TH-cam video that I haven't figured out how to do?) In any case, thanks for another great lesson Kyle!
I like to watch the last few minutes of the vid first... and THEN start at the beginning.. so then I know where it's going and I do find that helpful.. This young man is a true master in my opinion. wow.
For example you could have a red, which is a warm color and a blue, which is a cool color but have them be the same darkness or lightness... So that if you were to take a black and white photograph of the two colors, they would look like the same gray. Hope this helps!
thank you sir for your perfect demos, but I have a question, as far as I saw from videos, you never make a comparison between the values. or you meka it but without saying how? if you are not doing this, don t you think that a big effort should be given on this and should be so precise on values and their relation with surrounding?
You could try watching the previous lessons and he might not have mentioned it here if he already covered that topic in an earlier lesson. I don't remember for sure if he did as I need to go back and start over at lesson 1, but he does seem to build on topics and not repeat them in every new one. Have fun! He really does teach alot if you watch all and start from #1.
Hello! Thank you for your comment! I try to compare my values as I go by squinting my eyes down and looking from one area of the subject to another. Although I'm not setting out a specific time for doing this, I'm constantly aware of the different values in my peace and how they relate to the different values in the subject matter. I will talk more about this in future videos. The more you train your eye to do this the easier it will become, eventually becoming second nature. Best wishes and happy painting!
Deb MacDonald Thanks, no I usually just work out the design with the early lay-in ..I also try to envision the finished piece before I ever touch the canvas with the brush. Hope this helps!:)
I guess I am not to that point as yet! This answer does however give me insight into what I should be working toward, beyond just what is in front of me. I really enjoy your videos as I am learning much about working more loosely and 'seeing' more in nature. Thank you for that too!
Good explanation on how to do a lot of painting with bigger brushes and keeping the brushes simple when doing plein air. Great tip on the quantity of paint. I know I made the same error when I first started.
Thank you Kyle, you make painting

Wow, thank you so much for your videos,so helpful..
Thanks for watching 😁
Thank you Kyle - excellent demonstration re blocking in and progressing through re tones etc. Caz.
Caz Scot , Thanks:) yes a good block in is so important and then also knowing how to progress without losing the big shapes.
Hi! my friend Kyle, This one is very tick. I find it`s like a art naïf paint! I love that. thank`s for this new video, have a good day!
Kyle you really gave us an easy way to do skyholes. Weaving solves lots of problems with the mystery of how to make realistic skyholes.
Kyle don’t eat the bugs. Lol.
Great demo and explanations!
Awesome painting .... love this one !! 😄
Brendan Mc Geown , thanks.. this was a fun one:)
Awesome video Kyle!

I always keep a pair of pliers in my French easel to tighten the nuts
Wish there was some close-up shots
2 different temperatures but the same value, please explain, thank you

I don’t know these paintings look finished to me. ❤️. Sometimes less is more.
😁👍

Great painting Kyle! Just wondering if you do thumbnail sketches prior to your paintings? I am a newby at plein air .
Deb MacDonald Thanks, no I usually just work out the design with the early lay-in ..I also try to envision the finished piece before I ever touch the canvas with the brush. Hope this helps!:)
