You don't know how much I appreciate seeing these videos and the DIY nature of your set-ups. I would very much like to have a diagram e-mailed to me if you have a moment to spare. Seeing videos like this gives me great hope for building my own brewhouse without having to shell out tons of money in formal brewing equipment. I also really liked your mashtun setup!

    Thx for the excellent video!
My company does mostly commercial/industrial HVAC work.. but recently we were asked to install a glycol chiller for a company that cans drinks, including carbonated beverages. They asked us to install the chiller... so I'm scrambling to find out as much as I can before agreeing to do the work. The chiller is needed to cool the beverage before the carbonation process. Any you info you can send my way would be much appreciated! Jack

I would think a good beverage glycol chiller and glycol trunk line would do the trick. Foxx Equipment can sell one and make up the glycol line. If you had one that was about 20 ft. long and the glycol is always set at 29 F, then if your beverage is cool to start with, the trunk line will deliver product sufficiently cold enough to carbonate. If it is room temperature, then a longer trunk line so the product has time. Another possibility would be to run the product through a heat exchanger, with chilled glycol on one side and product on the other, but that is more expensive. How much needs to be chilled for packaging?

Thanks for the video! Quick question, what is the make and model of the pressure reducer? I didn't realize how many different kinds there were until I started shopping for one.

I'm not sure what it is, but I am plumbing a new system for our new brewery and am using just a pvc cut off valve for regulate pressure. I am thinking that because this type of chiller doesn't produce as much pressure I should be ok.

Is there a chance that you have a video or info on how you ran your temperature controller. I have two johnson controllers that I want to use for my 3bbl fermentors. Not sure how to hook my solenoid up to my controllers
    Thank you

I know this is a very old video but hopefully someone can help with this: is the PVC piping ok for a Glycol chiller? I’ve found different opinions all over the internet about it. Most people say the pipes should be Stainless Steel or Copper

Hi, great video. Can you send me the diagram you referenced? Also, I have a couple of questions. I'm building a home version of your system but my glycol will go to one small conical covered by a jacket. The two problems I am trying to solve and questions I have are: 1) my solenoid valve will remain closed until activated open by the temperature controller. Will this closed valve cause back pressure on the pump of the glycol chiller and damage it or reduce it's lifespan?; do I need a back pressure regulator? It seems your solenoid remains open then closes to divert flow to jacket. 2) I will have to reduce the pressure from the glycol pump which is listed as 18 psi to 8 psi so as to avoid rupture of the jacket. Any suggestions on how to do this? I'm considering a pressure reducer or diverter?

I'd be happy to but I need your email address. The diagram will answer your questions. My email is tomhen@mac.com

What size is you main trunk line 1/2" or 3/4' PVC? Building a similar manifold and trying to determine what size to use for the mainline.

+k Brown I used 1 inch in the video but on our new brewery I used 3/4 which works great

I could also use the diagram on this setup as well. We are having issues with our setup and maybe this will help.

Great vid. We use the exact same chiller, and I am redoing a few of the lines to include the ball valve reducer on the loop. A few questions - how did you set up a pressure gauge on a pvc line? What temp are you keeping your reservoir at? Are you doing a water/glycol mix? What temps are your tanks getting down to? We've see we cant really get below 38, which is fine for fermenting but not great for our bright tank. Thanks for your vids, we utilize a lot of what you've shown in our own brewery! 4qbc.com

Pressure guage on a tee. However with this chiller the pressure is not going to get into the danger zone so you should be fine without one. I keep the resevoir at 29. 37 is my lowest temp. I am not packaging off a bright tank so it is no big deal. My yeast drops out at 60, so 37 will handle anything I want to brew.

+ekapada thanks, we actually carbonate in our fermenters sometimes. Thats why we need lower temps.

I corbonate in my servers at 38 in the room. 4 psi for 30 minute, then 8 for 30, then 12 for 30, then 16 for 30 and finally 20 for 30. It zahms out at about 2.55
