You deserve many more views and subscribers honestly. This is literally the best AF performance review for that lens. You would think that other "big" youtubers would have a better review out there but no, they are so basic and not even trying to push it to it's limit. No effort at all. You put in so much work and it really shows. Thank you, ordered one plus a docking station for my r6.
I would like to see this lens compared to the Sigma Art 1.4 or the upcoming canon RF 85 f2 stm. I am tempted to buy this lens but the canon will have IS, and almost Macro . But it is only f2!!
@@michaelbell75 the canon RF 2.0 isn’t weather sealed tho and 1.4 from 2.0 is like full stop brighter. Aside from that performance is on par with the Canon RF 1.2 85mm which cost $2700... so i don’t think a lens simply being “Canon” is a decisive factor imo. If you want IS and kinda macro then sure.
@@dausherryanddhy9508 well, I wouldn't go THAT far, it's not as good as the RF 1.2, but i think it's really hard to justify the difference in price. The difference in overall performance between Samyang and RF 85/2 macro is WAY bigger than between Samyang and RF 85/1.2.
Often reviews (especially of this length) can get boring. But your fun personality kept me engaged throughout and it was also a pretty great review. Super keen to get this lens for my R6 now!
Hey thanks for the review! Yes “that thing” is called Space Needle and was built for the 1962’s World Fair. The word you’re searching for the ducks “fur” is “plumage”. Birds have a plumage. Wow, cool the backflips and how camera and lens performed at that light situation.
Great video man! I recently saw this lens in a camera shop and was tempted to buy it for my R6. But I didn't really know enough about it. After having watched your video and a guy called Christopher Frost, I'm so keen to get this lens!
Sooo uhhh was there water damage to your camera? And how did you dry or did you just let it air dry? I’ve read not to try to dry it off because you can actually push water into the crevices?
Good review but there seems to be a problem with copy variation affecting results if some forums are to be believed. What most reviewers seem to report is a yellow ish colour cast and a focal plain that is a bit curved and those are on the good copies. Those two problems wouldn't convince me to buy one atm.
Great video! I just got mine and shot a Mclaren with it in low light and it came out amazing. Eye af is really good! I was very satisfied with it. Will be doing sunrise portraits with it on a Sunday! Thanks for the review!!!! ✌🏻
Hi Kelly, love love love your review...! Greetings from Jakarta. I am Canon RP shooter and now thinking of having 85mm for portrait photography. Watched your video and would you recommend this lens over native RF 85mm F/2 and Tamron SP 85mm F/1.8? Look forward to your reply.
Hey man! Have you used the lens with the r or rp in low light hand hold? Like in the city night time. I would love to hear if you think it's still performing well hand hold in those conditions without IS. Thank you
I wasn't really expecting that wave stuff...not at all!! Thank you for your video. I was thinking about this lens compared with the EF 85 f2 and the later has macro (well, half macro, but it's still good) and lets be honest, with IBIS and the IS of the lens you're quite ok with f2...but it's not weather sealed!!! I don't know how long it'll take to canon to understand that a traveller don't want to carry a lens that weight more than 1kg (yes 1.2 L and 2.8L lenses, I'm talking about you) to have more protection against rain or dust. I have the RF35 1.8 and I love it. Would I take it with me traveling? no way jose. I like traveling light with the gear I know I'll use and trust. This lens looks like something I would trust...
This video was filmed before the update! I did get the lens station and will be posting an updated video with the new firmware! I also will be reviewing the 14mm f2.8!
The FE version of this lens has a strong yellow colour cast, I wonder if this lens exhibits the same behaviour as it's basically the same optical design.
i wanna buy this for my Canon RP this is amazing with the price... for my Portrait Photography i can save more money to this than to buy a sigma lens or Canon RF Lens nice Review BROw
That lens is currently nowhere available, even not on the Samyang homepage itself and also can’t be found under the other marketing name “Rokinon”. Even B&H does it have listed, the Rokinon 85 1.4 for RF listed there is manual focus design. Does someone know if there is a legal issue going on between Canon and Samyang and for that Samyang took the lens down? The RF docking station for firmware upgrades also disappeared from the Samyang page.
I’ve been using the canon 85mm 1.8 on my rp. I’ve gotten many amazing portraits using HSS. Issue is the boca looks sloppy at F2.0 ISO 100 using the flash. This definitely has me sold!!! Incredible quality. I’d rather spend this then $2000+
This video is really good, thanks for the review. I think it could be a really good combo paired with the RP, (1,700 USD) for portrait work. I would like to see more portrait pictures with the RP if you got other ones.
Is it a significant factor that this lens has no image stabilization? I guess it means that using low shutter speed without a tripod is out of question.
korveboa it does, I notice a huge difference between using it on the R with no ibis and the R5 with ibis. Are you sure it’s not enabled? I don’t think the R5 and R6 have a way to disable IBIS?
@@kelly___lopez I see good and bad things. Especially because of the constant tracking. Myself? I'm def not upgrading the software after what I paid already. I'm on a t5i anyway so I won't know it's true potential until I upgrade the body
