  • Today we're finding out if I'm as well read as, literary phenomenon, Rory Gilmore! The short answer...no hahaha
    Hi friends!
I'm so excited to be retaking the Rory Gilmore reading challenge checklist!!! The first time I filled out this list I had read 46 out of Rory's whopping 339 books! Since then, I've hosted a few 24 hour Rory Gilmore readathons, as well as tried/still trying to work through this list slowly over time. Today we are finding out how much progress I've made and how much progress I still need to make!
I sense some Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge content coming your way in the near future!
I'd love to know how many books you've read on the RG reading list, so feel free to share that in a comment!
I hope you're doing well and reading some amazing books!
    Best wishes and COPPER BOOM!

A lot of the books on this list are actually only referenced by their movie in GG, since Rory and Lorelei love their movie nights, but I always say it’s nice to think that Rory would want to read the book first. 😄

    138 of 339 · 41%
You did better than 99% of users on this list.
Of course, I am quite a bit older than you, or Rory Gilmore for that matter.
I find lists like this rather frustrating - like I have read 4-5 Hemingway, but not necessarily the ones on this list. Same with Shakespeare, Dostoevsky, Vonnegut and Dickens, many other authors. You (and I) could net another 5+ by taking an afternoon and reading some children's books, if this list was true 'goal'.

We need more Rory and Jess characters in TV today bring back the books in the phone tablet world. 🙏 I enjoyed seeing the things you have read. I myself have read 123 which is at 36% would love to see another Rory readathon and would like to participate as well! Cheers!

The one and only time I called a radio phone-in was to speak to Kurt Vonnegut on one of his rare visits to the UK. Much as I love "Slaughterhouse Five" I have to say that my favourite novel of his is "The Sirens Of Titan" which I re-read every year! My battered paperback copy is only 224 pages long and can be comfortably read in a couple of days although the effect it has will resonate for infinitely longer.

I have read 97 but I'm 45 years old so have had a lot longer to read them. Some of the modern books on the list don't appeal to me, but Rory is definitely well-read in the classics and that is what I love the most. I have a few of the titles on my TBR shelf. I absolutely love Russian lit and I just read The Master and Margarita but I didn't love it... I am wondering if the translation is partly to blame. I read the Pevear and Volkhonsky translation and I actually ordered 2 other translations off Thriftbooks to compare them. I'm going to see if either of those is more to my liking. And regarding the Divine Comedy - I just read that as well. I enjoyed the Inferno, the Purgatorio was just ok, and I was kind of disappointed in Paradiso. I think the Inferno and Master and Margarita complement each other though, so maybe pick them up one after the other. :)

You should definitely read something by Stephen King! If you're not into horror you could try Lisey's Story (mostly a romance), The Green Mile or Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption (both prison settings), 11/22/63 (historical thriller/romance/time travel), or The Eyes of the Dragon (young adult fantasy/fairy tale).
Also, this format is so obvious and simple. I wish I would have done it for my recent list video.

For Stephen King you should try these: Carrie, Misery, IT, Pet Sematary (Although, now that I think you have pets, so maybe not this one.), The Dark Half, or Rose Madder. He has a lot of books to choose from and he is still writing. Wicked is great. I cheated and marked ones that were books I started to read, but DNFed. So technically I did read them. A lot of them are books I have but haven't started yet and some of them are books where I have seen the movie but haven't read the book.

I hated Lord of the Flies but that's because when I read it I was a chubby, glasses wearing school boy at an all boys school in England so it hits a bit close to home. I've read 76, which includes ticking the 'Several Biographies of Churchill' box. (On a separate count I've probably read 20 books about Churchill. Maybe more.) I liked Tender is the Night a lot. I read Waiting for Godot at University a long time ago because I acted in it. Considering I'm probably twice your age your 73 is pretty good going. There's some odd books on that list though.

She might have ended up feeling just as you did. I mean, you should give them a decent attempt, as Rory would have done; but I don't think you're obliged to have finished.

    339 books in 153 episodes.
That is 2.21 books per episode.
One episode covering two weeks (22 episodes per season, minus the summer).
So, a little bit more than a book by week (2.21/2).
Average height of a book, let say 300 pages.
So Rory reads 300 pages per week, incessantly, during 7 years. That is, a little more than 40 pages by day.
Wich seems doable... Although complicated when you are a student and have a lot of homeworks, and boyfriends!!!
    Lol

Okay, I don't get it... This is like the third person (or possibly fourth) who has said that they didn't like Huck Finn.... I LOVED that book! It always confuses me when someone says that they didn't like it. If someone is reading this comment, and doesn't like the book.... reply with your reason as to why....I'm honestly curious.

there's a lot of the books I'd never read, especially King, can"t stand King. Lot of books that I won't ever read.

Several are quite good. For example, the one referred to as "Rita Hayworth" is the story that became the Shawshank movie, and of course The Shining. However - possibly because there are so many - some are not that compelling.

@@jamesduggan7200 I did watch The Stand, which wasn't too awful, but I'm really not a fan of psychological fear making books or horror. These give me nightmares! Really I am a bit of a wuss when it comes to this stuff. Have never been a fan of these types of genres. And I find Mr King freakishly weird, he worries me!
