I need some advice with Palm Island strategy. I have played this
game several times and I simply cannot get my head wrapped around a logical
strategy for playing it the best way. I find that when I spend resources the
benefit is put to the back of the deck for the next round. Then, I do not have
the resources for the current round because I spent them. Additionally, if I
hold them for too long, they cycle around, and I lose them. The decisions of when
to store, rotate or flip are not clear at all. I feel I am at the mercy of card
order and mostly luck in decision making. Can you clarify a gaming strategy for
this game that might hold my interest in this game? I love the idea of it, but
the actual game play makes me frustrated. Any help would be much appreciated…Todd

I haven’t played Palm Island in quite some time so I’m not going to be much help to you regarding strategy. However, I’ll pin this to the top of the comments and maybe someone else will come along with some advice. Thanks for watching, Todd!

Yeah a palm sized solo game is something a lot of people would be interested in I think! Only a couple weeks left until the launch!

In the rules you can read that if your are unable to interact with either of the top two cards of your deck, YOU MUST DISCART THE FIRST CARD. After that it continuos saying "you may never discard the second card of the deck". I have to say that I always played like you (discarting the second card if I want to do it)... and Rhado did the same... mistake on rules or everyone is playing on the wrong way? regards

Thank you for the comment and question!
The rules I have state, "If you are unable to interact with either the card in your hand or the card on top of the deck you must discard the card in your hand."
When you say, "first card," do you mean the card in your hand? At 4:54 I demonstrate this rule. Is there somewhere in the video that I demonstrated the rule incorrectly? If so please let me know so I can notate it.

Yes, I watched it this minute! But as you say, only if yo are unable to interact with either cards... but in this case, you can rotate your card on left card, because is free (you should change it for another imposible to use)... Another problem is that in my rules, you use only one hand to play... the deck is in one hand and you take de first card to put it on the botton... so I think that some times the rules are not too clare about this, because I don't sure what is the first or second card to apply this rule about discard cards (first is the card on the top or first is the real first card on your hands?... Thanks a lot.

Ok I've downloaded the latest version of the rules and I see some things were changed but the end results are essentially the same.
To your first point on Pg10 it states you may choose to discard the top card from the deck instead of taking an action. So you are never forced to interact with any card and may discard the one on top even if you are able to take an action.
To your second point the first card would be the one on top and the second card would be the one beneath it.

Yes, but in the minute 4:54 you should't move the card on the right hand (second card), because the card on the top (left hand, first card) can be played (rotate). The rules sayed that you can send behind the deck the first card as an option, ok...but on the second hand, you send back it only if you can't interact with any card...
I just reviewed again the Radho explanation and it's the same...he send back anyone of both cards...it doesn't matter if it is on the right or left hand. And I have to say that I also is playing like that.
I have a youtube channel too about board games...and a suscripter was the first that told me that it had a mistake in my explanation... Thanks again.

In the old version of the rules (which were current when the video was made) the card in your right hand is the same as what is now referred to as the "first" card.

I love that you used female pronouns in your video. It was such a nice surprise and change from male pronouns. I am teary-eyed with joy and gratitude.

honestly it's too PC forced. took me out of the reviews. too heavy handed. just say it generic players them their they theirs. everybody's happy. especially them. or if you must mix it up he she them the players. otherwise informative instructional videos.

Sorry you feel that way. I've been doing the female pronouns for a while now and have gotten very comfortable with them. I'll never use the singular "they" pronouns since I feel like the ambiguity of whether it's plural or singular can cause confusion in certain situations. Fortunately there are plenty of other people out there using only male pronouns, using singular "they" pronouns, and I'm sure even some mixing it up so if you find one method distracting all the other options are available to you.
