Was lucky enough to live here for 40 years from a child until I moved to Germany, beautiful place. Obviously like many places it has changed a lot over the many years but it still remains in my heart an amazing place, growing up and living there was the best, I really miss it but am so happy that tomorrow I get to revisit some of my old haunts and places I loved for a few days

I feel like I’m reading my own comment here. I lived in Thanet for the first 35 years of my life and Broadstairs was always the centre of it all for me….and now I also live in Germany!
I left a piece of my heart of Viking Bay and will never be tired of visiting and seeing that view from the clock tower, along the coast to towards Bleak House.

@@mntaylor77 Me to !! Raised and lived in Broadstairs all of my life, actually lived near Bromstone School for pretty much all of it. My first little and then junior school hehe, then went to Charles dickens as I never passed my 11+ to go to Dane court lol. God I could go in to one and type so much but I dont want to annoy you, I just know if we spoke about places and old things and how things were etc and also the differences here in Germany or just simple memories then we would have very similar and loads to chat about for sure. My Wife is German and so I try to tell her everything about it, like just how normal walking across the beach was for us there, that it was not anything special to go to the beach for us, sure fun but not something unusual or special like it is here for people where I live in Germany now, for them a beach is a holiday. I think our nearest beach is 5 hours away!! We literally had loads of them all within a tiny walk or drive away didn´t we lol. I also tell her how all Uk schools have uniforms and all sorts of things really that are different here to there. I really do miss so much and so many things. Germany is beautiful for sure and I love it but hey, Broadstairs, Thanet and just the UK in general will always be "home" huh.

That's exactly what I meant by "I feel like I'm reading my own comment" by saying how crazy it is to see a former Thanetarian now living in Germany, just like me 😊 it's cool.
I'm fortunate enough to live in west Germany, so we can be in Calais in 5 hours, and then after the Eurostar, 1 more hour to Thanet!
It will always be home from home for me but annual visits keep me from missing it.
I went to Dane Court...so there would've any comparing notes there 😉🫣

@@mntaylor77 Oooo one of those goody goody types we used to beat up are ya! Nah, I just messed school up but hey my daughters all went to Dane Court, so I did something right later on lol. Arr west Germany eh, well funny enough I live in NRW Germany, not to far I guess from Duisburg, little town called Kamp lintfort. Yep to calais roughly 5 hour drive lol.
I try and visit as much as I can but it is getting so expensive to get there and then find a place to stay, that the visits are not nearly as often as I would like back to Broadstairs. I will tell you one thing though, the next time we go I am taking the large car so I can fill up as much as I can from Asda etc for all those little things we miss that they do not sell here. Kp skips! Pork scratchings, well the list is endless lol
Just a quick note, the thing you saw on your shorts video could well be the international space station. I have seen it and it can look so strange in the sky at night.

Brought back childhood memories as my Great Aunt and Uncle retired there in the early 50's and we spent many holidays there. I remember a children's entertainment area in Viking Bay where there was a little railway set up that we could ride on. I always picked the Black engine. Also the Punch & Judy shows and donkey rides. I also remember the concrete walk ways under the cliffs being constructed. I'd love to retire there. Cheers Andy

Hey. I was there in 2019. It is a lovely spot. But like every 2nd person is walking around with an Ice Cream Cone right!... Well, it seemed like.
I remember there is a huge old Building along the foreshore that was used as a Medical unit to treat patients with lung conditions like tuberculosis. The fresh breezes from the ocean would help the patients with their breathing. Nice Vid BTW
