Larry strongly believed that you don't back down to anyone because once you do they well never look at you the same way again. He not only said it, he lived it. That along with a remarkable set of skills and famous work ethic help make him the legend that he is.

When Larry was a senior at Springs Valley High School I was in the 8th grade. Larry was my P.E. assistant. The only time I ever saw Larry go after anyone was when a classmate of mine kept calling Larry, "Tweety Bird". Finally one day Larry decided he'd had enough and took off chasing my classmate down the school hallway. A few minutes my classmate came back crying. Apparently Larry gave him the ultimate "Dutch Rub". He never called Larry Tweety again.

It depends on your metric. If we go by who was better in their prime it’s Larry hands down because he could beat you 20 different ways whereas Jordan had to be score 36 a game to make things work. But if your metric is who was at their apex longer then it’s Jordan because of his longevity and 6 rings. I go by the former metric.

Yes and as others mention, racial tension was higher in the 90's. Especially among athletes as it was something publicly broadcasted so you had pride coming in. Yet MJ for example had plenty of white fans at the time so it wasn't really as much racism from the viewers but more of a societal undertone carried by masculine pride. You didn't want look weak because people hanged out afterward in person more. It was more impactful to your social life to look weak. Where as today many of the players can just ignore or minimize the after social life with the internet.

When J & Bird went at it... it LOOKS like Larry came underneath and hooked upward with his right arm, where J then just kept a stiff follow through. Not sure why Bird would hit the floor from that, but you really can't see it all from that angle. I remember watching this. Larry played a good game. Doc... not so much. I can understand why he may have been agitated. It also looked like J tried to warm up to him, putting his hand on his waist. I'd love to know what they both said. I guess he just wasn't in the mood to hug it out, or J maybe poked him with a mamma dig. Didn't expect him to push off like that. His reaction seemed a bit harsh. Then again... no one wants to look easy. But taking a poke at someone when they're being held.... that was Busch. I know it was heat of the moment. But still. And I'm a huge J fan.
When we were watching this, live, as kids... we never imagined that these broadcasts would become future clips of legends. The NBA on CBS, during the 80's, on Sunday afternoons...
