  • We assemble and review a new kit of 1/18 mecha from Joy Toy--designers and makers of detailed figures, mechs, and dioramas that we've never seen before. And even at small scale, this imposing mech stands over a foot tall and looks amazing alongside a towering diorama display. Consider us hooked on these kits!

Titanfall was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the design too, fun fact about Titanfall - The mechs were originally designed from kit-bashed components of various sci-fi models so this kind of goes full circle, neat.

Yeah, I read somewhere that Steel Bones were inspired by Titanfall. You can find counter parts to each of the Titanfall 2 titans

I thought the price was a little steep until I saw the final product. That's so huge and detailed that it's actually a good deal compared to virtually anything comparable.

I know I am two years late but I really appreciate your consideration of the Joytoy mechs. I didn’t know abt your channel when I started collecting these. But as an 80s “big robot” kid… these scratch an itch unlike anything else. Most of the reviews of them are not as well done as yours. I now have abt 7 of them and I just decided to build the entire mech diorama. Can’t wait to assemble it. Thanks for showing the scale. First time I’ve seen it done this way. Great work.

I’ve never heard of these series of MECHS!!
    Looks legitimately great!!
Also, I would love to see ADAM’s reaction to other Mech series and Grades! I’m soon going to build my first RG Gunpla build.
I also was in a small Gunpla Convention last week, and it was a BLAST!! First time I’ve ever seen PG and Metal Builds! Bought a TON of Model Kits! The love of these machines is real!

GREAT VIDEO NORM. I discovered these about a year ago they are FANTASTIC!! I have the fear 1 mech in desert camo but that fear 3 looks really nice. The structure kits are great because they are modular and once you get the hang of building them you can mix and match parts to your own design. They also have vehicles similar to an MRAP that are within the same universe as the mechs. Man these things are addictive!

Joytoy is relatively big here, it's a very good option if you like some prepainted figures to pose and play with, it's all modular so if you'd like you can even tabletop with the dioramas. My only gripe with the dark source series is the lack of good props to fill the depot rooms with, most of their mecha depot stuff are more steel frame components.

I am so sad that Armoured Trooper VOTOM wasn't your go-to example when trying to describe a small mech with a pilot sitting in the torso. I feel old now.
(Although, stylistically this feels more like Heavy Gear from Dream Pod 9, which is heavily inspired by VOTOM. Just in the shapes of the kit. Needs a butt-wheel, though. :D )

These mechs look like from the game Phantom Brigade, and also if going off the basis that 4 in = 6 ft, and the mech itself is close to 13 in tall. It would come out to around 20 ft tall in real world scale.

Joytoy has been my obsession for a while. The price is a barrier for most, that Fear 3 can run around $180… yea. The earlier ones are directly ripped from Titanfall. I don’t believe they paid the people at respawn for their design work… would love to be wrong though.

It could have been. Scale is based on the size of the "real" item, not on how big the model/statue is. There are scale models of humans that are around 1/8 scale, that are maybe only twice the size of this.

It's not their best product, the armor straps are poorly designed and clumsy to fit, also it makes no sense that those huge armors are only held together with cloth straps,,, strapped plates only work for humanscale mech and robots. I'd rather recommend their earlier mechs and the new 40k series.
