Narrowboat SLAMMED by The FLOODING River Severn! This Was FRIGHTENING! - 426

Today we finally head back onto the River Severn, after repairing the snapped-off tiller, which is a bit frightening, after what happened, and this time we're reversing back onto the river. Which will actually help us out, as we're facing the right way this time. The current is about 3mph, which is extremely strong, but doable, we have to cruise 9 miles and two locks before we get to the safety of the Staffs and Worcs canal at Stourport. But this is not going to be a relaxing cruise, its actually quite frightening. Once we get to Stourport through we have to do a 90-degree bend onto the canal, but the strong steam had other ideas...

We have been on the River Severn several times as it is part of several canal rings, as is the Avon. Hire boats are allowed on rivers although there will be limits on parts of the navigation, it is a long time since we have been on rivers because as you know in a weeks hire, a spell of heavy rain could wreck our holiday if we got caught by red levels.

I know that is the trouble on a holiday. As the weather can be so changeable and its not much fun waiting for the levels to go down especially if you only have a weeks holiday.

The Severn has a strong current even on green, being on a river on red boards is irresponsible, which I'll admit is what we did on the Thames when we first got the boat back in December 2020. That was irresponsible.
