    I played as Bulgaria too a week ago. I couldn't become independent until 1460. After defeating the Ottomans they then got dogpiled by their smaller neighbors, Venice and eventually the Mameluks so I couldn't get my hands on a lot of territory after the 1st war. Eventually I became the no.1 Great power, completed all the missions and got bored in the late 1600s (normal difficulty). It was definitely fun and more rewarding than starting as a large independent nation.

    27:20 Totally agree on your points about a siege rework. For one, i would like to see some interactions with supply like naval blockades and complete encirclements. Might be hard to implement but cities like constantinople should almost be impossible to conquer without a proper assualt (and it should house a sizable army) while forts like Kerak (out of the top of my head) should not be assualted but sieged down.

    The one change to the warfare system I'd do is change manpower. It should be greatly expanded (atleast x2-x3) BUT the lower it is, the lower the quality of your troops, the more debuffs you should get (like more unrest, increased dev cost etc) and it should tick up much slower.

    • @johnjaeger2968
      @johnjaeger2968 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm with you, except for making it tick up slower. If you're playing a minor, you'll get one war per ruler because you never have troops. Plus that initial expansion of your army would ruin you and fighting the rebels because of it would then end you.

    I think there should be supply lines that go through occupied provinces and supply armies that are over the base province supply limit, armiess that are cut off will not get any supply limit from tech, forts block supply lines instead of movement. So you can run past forts, but you'll take a lot of attrition unless it's a small army (below the base supply limit)

    @28:00 you should have the ability to choose to offer them terms of their surrender. Happened all the time, attacking armies would make certain promises should they turn over the fort without a battle, like promising to not plunder, murder, etc.
    And I agree with the stance thing. Be able to pay like 1 military monarch point per month to add +1 to each siege roll for aggressive. Maybe some other modifiers that could change your armies moral, like promote raiding/plundering for +5% morale but will add to devastation and separatism/unrest afterwards. I think that would be neat.

We were one of the most progressed country in EU before Ottoman conqueror us in 1396.

  • @quadcannon
    @quadcannon ปีที่แล้ว

    27:30 - I agree, there is a lot that could be done to make war more interesting in EU4. For example, you mentioned sacking cities -- perfect idea! In return for sacking a city you could get a lump sum of cash and maybe a small morale of armies increase; but it would be balanced by increasing devastation, decreasing prestige (if of the same religion as the sacked city/province), and perhaps an increase in the cost of mercenaries (who now think they can charge higher prices to a rich potential employer).
    So if you don't sack a city then you get: faster absorption (less admin point), quicker rate of recovery from devastation, and less chance of rebellion...or maybe an increase in splendor or prestige.
    Being able to set your armies to different types of stances: aggressive, defensive, concentrate on flanks, concentrate on center, etc. Each stance giving a small buff in a particular bit of battle. Aggressive: extra shock dmg; defensive: resistance to shock dmg; concentrate on flanks: additional engagement length and flanking bonuses; concentrate center: extra morale dmg and/or fire dmg.

    I still think we should be able to roll for an guaranteed stat general. maybe make it so that they have less stats than doing random but will always have atleast 1 pip in the stat you are after. (maybe how many pips is based on your mil tech so by mil tech 30 you are guaranteed 6 pips in one stat.

    27:28 I think battles should be like the Total Wars game, or at least give the opportunity to go "in the field" and be yourself the general.
    You did a video with Vanice and I remember the editor pointing out that in real life battles would be about ambush and knowing when to flank, whilst in the game was just numbers going down.

    There should be options to sack city, with the following modifier:
    Sack city: receive gold, temporarily discipline for duration of war and worsen relationship with every enemy in the war, but improve relations with enemies' enemy/rivals
    Not sack: loose morale for duration of war, increase professionalism , decrease relations with enemies' enemy/rivals

    I'd argue at its peaks Bulgaria wasn't overshadowed but it's simply ignored due to the more western point of view on the region, where Byzantium is kinda seen as always having been the most important.
    But infact the Bulgarians did take the Balkan Hegemony from the Byzantines for awhile and only thing stopping them was a navy, not overshadowed during that time period I'd say.
