      Thanks- it’s a good listening radio, not without its quirks. And it does have them. But it has become my “daily driver”. I wouldn’t pay the insane eBay prices, but there are deals out there.

    I just got one yesterday off eBay, took a chance on an untested ‘parts only’ one. Works great on batteries, I have an original power supply coming Tuesday. I have wanted one of these since they came out, but bought an Icom R75 instead, finally got one of these.

      I don’t want to rain on your parade, but eBay is the absolute worst place to buy one of these. Prices are top dollar, and overinflated by those entertained by bidding wars, or that don’t know the market and think they are sitting on the holy grail. Regarding batteries, prepare to have a battery budget, as it eats through them- it’s a high current drain. Try to find an original non switching wall wort, like what I have, and you won’t go to the poor house buying batteries.

    @Arthur's Hallicrafters Kitchen & Audio Lab Hello from a small town between Rochester and Buffalo NY! I just got this in part of a lot at an auction. $50.00 for everything in a very large and sturdy box and this 800 was in it. VERY good cosmetic shape. It came with no manual or power supply. I had a 9 volt R20 power supply that works the unit but I can only pick up FM radio clear as a bell. I only have the telescoping antenna but to be honest - I don't have a clue how to use this or what SW means, AIR or USB, SSB or LSB, AM SYNC FAST SLOW Etc.... I am a total new-bee. Would you be willing to make a video with the specs of the original power supply and page by page stills of the manual that maybe a total noobee like myself could could pause and read through? I thought it wouldn't do any harm to ask if you have the time. THANKS for these videos! I know these were posted some time ago but if you are still active in this area I would be grateful for a "Video For New-Bees" I am quite clueless but always had an interest since back in the CB days - for me that was around 1985ish. EDIT: You mentioned the serial number and I was looking and found it behind the battery cover. The Serial on my unit is S8012011985. Just sharing that info if it's at all relevant.

      @ArthurJS123  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, sorry. Manuals are available online. As is the original power supply. Additionally, an MLA-30+ external antenna will help you if you are in a high noise area. Good luck.

    For the 800 model anything made after I think 2002 is made good I could be wrong

    The converters it came with the radio what is it output? Is it 9 V AC or 9 V DC at 1 AMp
    Great radio I just got one too and did not get a converter am trying to find one but I am confused

      It’s a good radio, not a great one. Look for the Trisonic Universal 7 way 1000ma supply, and be done with it. This is better than Grundig’s original- don’t overanalyze it.

    I'm trying to buy one on Craigslist right now, lol @ mint, that is his line, but he is asking for $400, I offered him $200 cash at the moment, he been trying to sell it for over a month. I told him, no one is going to pay $400. I wished him Good Luck and if he can't sell it, my offer stands lol. Oh yeah hopefully he will take the offer.

      Danny- it's a good radio, and a good pure listening radio, in part, due to its great audio quality. 200 is what I paid for mine- no way is it a 400 dollar radio. Arthur

      Yes my Tecsun PL-660 has sync detect. I rarely use it. Not a big deal for me.

    you sound a little disappointed Arthur

    • @ArthurJS123
      @ArthurJS123  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Peter Gratineau Not really. Just a bit perplexed as how overhyped synchronous detection is. And this is supposed to be one of the better performing ones. I do also wish it had a noise blanker or limiter.

    • @subzerolives
      @subzerolives 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ArthurJS123 When Sync detection is done well it's a blessing, my first experience with this feature was the ICF-SW 100 which had awesome lock, the SW77'S sync looses lock quicker but is just as fast to resync. The E1's lock is solid like the 100, just connect the 800 to a good antenna and it won't dissapoint. 73s

      +Peter Gratineau You're missing
      my point. It's not suitable for all circumstances, and it's not a magic bullet. From what I've read and heard, it's well designed. I've seen some use it for all AM signals, which in itself makes absolutely little sense.

    • @subzerolives
      @subzerolives 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ArthurJS123 It was designed for AM, that's why people use it. You're correct in saying it's no magic bullet but it (sync) when implemented well works.

    • @ArthurJS123
      @ArthurJS123  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter Gratineau I understand. But for all AM signals? It's only effective under certain specific conditions, not all.
