It’s OVER Cenk! Any possible credible challenger to Harris has now endorsed her. Shapiro, Whitmer, Pritzker, Newsom. You are not going to get an Open Convention other than almost all delegates voluntarily voting for the VP. In order for another candidate to be nominated they need 300 signatures from delegates. Sanders made his career as an independent, and my bet in 2016 was that he had a good chance of winning if he gave the national majority a chance to vote for him in the general despite someone else being the Democratic nominee.
That would however be unprecedented; in more than two centuries, no candidate outside the latest party duopoly has ever won the White House.
My guess is that what Bernie himself expected was a repeat of 1912, when the vote split between Taft and Roosevelt allowed Wilson to win the office.
It’s not too hard to assess Trump as potentially even worse than Wilson (who became the closest to a dictator we’ve had yet).
Thing is, the “spoiler effect” - which favors the further right - is inherent in the “first past the post” voting system.
To get more viable options, we need STAR or at least ranked-choice voting.
To get that, we need to change the position of the incumbent legislators state by state. Fundamentally, that’s much more likely by achieving a majority in the Democratic Party than by putting the third-party cart before the horse.

If they stick with Kamala, I want a Harris / Whitmer ticket. If too 'feminist' for the average American, then Harris / Shapiro. Either way, we need Midwest and/or Rust Belt representation. Politically-speaking, Harris still reeks of California. Definitely NOT Newsome.

I know nobody want's to talk about it anymore but Witmer put people with Covid back into nursing homes and killed a lot of people, and then tried to cover it up.

Geez Cenk, you are just really trying to stir up dissension in the ranks no matter what, aren’t you?? I agree that there should be an open convention, but please get behind Kamala if she gets the nomination (which I expect she will). It is possible to just report things without coming off like an a-hole.

Deciding that Harris is the presidential nominee is not "anointing" her. She was already part of the Biden/Harris team that Democratic voters chose.

Being for an open convention does not mean they are against Harris. It just means they want a mandate from the members, as does Harris herself.

What exactly does "open convention" mean to you? Does it just mean that the delegates theoretically are unbound? Or does it mean that major Dems aren't allowed to support Kamala and she has to debate every John Random Dude who declares his candidacy?
