You captured an elusive mood here: the longing for love, the fleeting experience of love, and the melancholy loss of love. I was never a fan of Antonioni, with the exception of The Passenger (which I feel is a masterpiece) but L'Eclisse always held an aura of mystery for me, especially the final scenes of emptiness. This makes me re-appreciate L'Eclisse and I will now revisit it.
"L'Eclisse" is the third part of trilogy and for me its the best. But you should start from "L'avventura" and then "La notte" to understand whole trilogy in my opinion.

Mine is (in order): L'eclisse The Red Desert Blow-up L'avventura The Passenger (Jack Nicholson is brilliant) The Mystery of Overwald (very underated and very moving) Identification of a woman (again underated but too explicit) Zabriskie Point (great visuals, terrible acting but last ten minutes is amazing) I've never seen anything before Il Grido, but Le Amiche is meant to be very good. I must admit I hate "Beyond the Clouds" but Wim Wenders seemed to take control of that.

@@MrPanacea999, for me, L'avventura is Antonioni's greatest film. It is a cinematic timeless super masterpiece. And "Le Amiche" is the last of Antonioni's early unsuccessful films. But, better than, for example: I Vinti or La signora senza camelie.
Zabriskie Point is the most abstract of A’s movies. Stunning to look at it focuses on the shallow hypocrisy of the Californian hippy movement. It’s the only one of his movies that offers even a glimmer of a solution to the despair created by the slavery of materialism and personal ambition

The song choice is a tad incongrous, in terms of this film. I like the Moody Blues, but for this film, I was thinking along the lines of something from Pink Floyd. Perhaps, 'Breathe' or 'Wish You Were Here'. 'Comfortably Numb'?

It's been seven years, I'm assuming you've seen La Notte, by now. If not, give it a shot. It's fantastic. Antonioni at his best. Imho.
