Helpful video, I just bought a used Wacker jumping jack rammers model BS 60 Y which needs a bellows boot replacement. Without watching your video I'd probably damage something or not be able to do the service. Cheers!!!
The boot could possibly be upside down. The boot that is used by this machine has very close dimensions but they are slightly different. The top of the boot should measure: OD: 5-1/4" ID: 4-7/8" The bottom of the boot should measure: OD: 4-3/4" ID: 4-1/16"
Hi David, wondering why the lower end 10-w-30 oil can not be installed through the site glass on occasion? I have a crack in the outer aluminum casing and possibly in the boot/ loose clamp as well so need to top off regularly I am thinking to keep from jumping erratically
Hi Tim, you can put the oil in that way also. On some models it is the only way. If your oil level is half way in the sight glass, your engine speed is correct and the engine is running correctly and you are not over compacting or compacting material not suited for a rammer, you should not be jumping erratically. When you changed the oil, did it have any metal particles or plastic particles in the old oil ? Thanks
Sorry, but they are not. We do have the BT65 bellows for a little less than that, but I have no other bellows that will work. Thanks stores.dhsequipmentparts.com/bellows-bomag-bt65-bt65g-bt80d-bvt65-part-54210252/
Is it possible for the clutch to wear out the clutch hub. What should be distance between 90mm clutch and inside of clutch hub. Love your videos thank you
Not sure on the exact clearance measurement, but it should be even all the way around the clutch. Sometimes one side of the clutch will wear prematurely cause it to wear on one side more than the other
Hi Peter, If you are having trouble with your machine, please give us a call with your model and serial number. We can then provide you with the carburetor you are looking for. (866) 611-9369
Hi David, the BS45 maintenance kit I purchased came with a quart of four stroke oil. Presuming this is for the engine, not the rammer lower end. Thank You
Hi Tim, The BS45Y has a 2 cycle engine and needs no engine oil. That oil is for the lower percussion system. Halfway in the sight glass is what you want. Fill it to the half way mark, run the unit a minute or so then adjust as needed. You will not be using the complete quart on that model. Thank you
Don't suppose you know where I can get a new retaining clip for the pin that joins the crankcase and ramming system....I checked your DHS website but it doesn't show the clip as a part I can order. Wacker part number 2003749 When I removed one of the old clips it went "sproing" into, apparently, another dimension.
Dave, I'm about to change the bellows on my bs50-2. What kind of oil do you suggest? Also should I use blue or red loktite? Any chance you can give me the torque specs?
Hi Dillan, 10w30 for the ramming system oil. 1/2 - 3/4 in the view. the sight glass should be tightened to 6 ft lbs. The drain plug is 40 ft lbs. the drain plug could use a little blue threadlock on it. Good luck
@@davedhs6821 sorry Dave I think I may not have been specific enough. I could use the torque specs on the 4 main bolts at the mid section where you remove the pin and also the clamps. Thanks for the quick reply.

Was the camera operator the tin man and you were saving all the oil for the jumping jack? Maybe they were in a leather gimp suit and it was binding up really bad? Nobody knows.

Hi David, Thanks for a very informative video. This is the first time I have needed to work on a rammer and it helped me understand the tool better. One thing I would like to ask. 1 of the machines I am working on has a fault. The foot is not locked into place. It wacks ok but when machine off I can twist the foot around. I presume this is not supposed to happen. I cant take bottom plate off due to not having the tool to compress spring. Can you tell me what is broken? I am in the UK and cant find much info here. Thanks Alan
Hi Alan, If everything is working ok, but the foot can rotate, it is most likely a loose bellow clamp. The clamps are the only thing maintaining the foot alignment. Go to the video near the end. It show the rotating foot. Good luck and email us if you need anything. Thanks Dave
10W-30 oil, which is a standard motor oil. The oil fill level varies for each unit, but it is recommended to fill the oil until it reaches the center of the dot in the sight glass. Subsequently, the tamper should be operated at a low rate before shutting down the machine for a recheck of the oil level. If necessary, the oil should be refilled accordingly.

The oil in the ramming leg should be changed every 3 months or 300 hours. The oil is a SAE 10W-30, and it takes approximately 30oz of oil. You should fill your machine's oil reservoir to the center of the sight glass located on the front leg of the machine. Then run the machine on a low tamp, let the machine rest and the oil settle in the leg. Check your oil level, it should be in the center or a little above the red dot indicator on the sight glass.
