Transformers only work and generate current in the secondary coil only if there's a change in its magnetic field thus providing ac current into the primary coil so to use a transformer Convert Dc into ac using transistor ressistor or microcontrollers...You can watch a video how a bug zapper works or a mosquito killer bat works that's a simple demonstration of how you can build a simple dc to ac converter.

Battery only provided 12v but HT Coil provides 12 to 400 v input and output 22000v current to spark and remain absorbed by body, ground earth
Spark plug is directly connected to alternator(which is generated AC) this is why bike can start even after battery fail or battery removed.
