There was a similar thing with Citroen Berlingo vans not too long ago. I can't say about the newer ones as I have not owned one, but the earlier ones were so ridiculously easy to access that you wonder why you bothered to lock them at all. I sorted mine out relatively easily but only after being caught in a car park in Watford and losing the entire contents in half an hour of booking into a hotel.
Ive just purchased one of these from Sussex installations and after struggling to fit it realised that it is the wrong shape and is not compatible with my 2019 transit custom. @@tilerman I would have invited them in and then knocked f**k out them! Had my van and £6k worth of tools stolen in August! Still trying to recover from it now
A friend had his van broken into 3 times, the police advise was to leave the van unlocked! Luckily he can take his tools out each night, it’s a bit of a ball ache though.
Yep a ballache, but it has to be done. However, the last two times I got mine robbed was in the middle of the working day, once (18 months ago) when I stopped off to pick up some timber and it got robbed on the car park and emptied of around 3k of gear and secondly, I parked to go buy a sandwich and had the van robbed and emptied again (around 2k gone) Nightmare! so even if your van is emptied overnight, they know it's full during the day. I think they follow trade vans and just wait for their opportunity. Police caught the 1st bunch, it was an organised gang and they lifted over 60k of stuff over two days. Nothing got recovered, they got their hands slapped and police advised me against seeking personal recovery against them as they were claiming "no fixed abode" and my Court Claim would include my personal details and they (the police) knew that previous Claimants against them had been "persuaded" to drop their claims. I guess the added security has to be considered, I was dumb to think I wouldn't get hit twice :-(
@EmcIcon well for a start I'm Scottish and have no desire to remain part of the UK. And what throwing insults around has to do with van security I do not know🤷♂️
Had mine done 6 times....twice in the last 2 months.....now I leave it open for them to look in!!! Literally empty it every night pull it off the fence when I park it so they can easily get round the back and I leave both back doors unlocked....like the local policeman said to me there not after stealing the van there after tools. All the damage I've ever had done has been from either trying to get in the van to move it off the fence from me parking it up tight to the back doors or damage to the side door and back doors from getting into it. I have to say touch wood it's worked they seem to be leaving me alone now. I'm happy for them to get in the back to see there's nothing in there....nothing else works so why not.
External shield is a good deterrent. I would highly recommend it. Interior detector is great. What about a WiFi or GSM video camera? 4:15 -- A break method needing a software update? And info how to do it online? Good grief. Modern world..... FWIIW: On the other hand.... I once had my car broken into twice in 6 weeks. In the first case, they pounded out the door lock. Cost me $800 (US Dollar) in damage. The next time they went in through a side window. $16 dollars in damage. I wish all thieves knew the $16 method.
Saint Coemgen … ya know, back in the 80s Radio Shack (now defunct) offered a silent alarm system with a pager device that had a range of about 1/4 mile. Perfect for leaving your vehicle in a public parking area or in the driveway where you could come out and catch a thief red handed. It worked well for me while in a motel one night. The motion sensor was good enough to catch the guy opening the tailgate on my pickup. I looked out the window and called the cops before going outside myself.
Sorry to hear about that James. It is a terrible feeling to lose all that and know that somebody else is buying it for a fraction of what you paid. I have no faith in the main dealers, they seem not very clued up when you compare them to Jeff.
Builders , BEWARE Bastards work in teams , you visit suppliers one follows you around shop timing you ,others pull as near to van as poss then clean your van out , whilst twat inside ,informs them of your movements , all the time in the world and not worried about you catching them
Got done once when I first started on the tools. Never again. I use a crew cab with windows and offload/on-load my kit at the start and end of every day and store it in a lock up without fail. Unless I leave it at the customers house. Never leave kit on your van. Mind you kit isn’t safe anywhere. Manufacturers should be doing everything possible to make sure their vehicles are impossible to break into. They charge enough for the f-ing things!
Last year van got robbed twice. I swear to god I really considered purchasing a hearse funeral van. Plenty of room inside coffin for tools.. I don't care what you say your not breaking into that
That looks like a lot of trouble to go through to get into a vehicle all you have to do is break the glass just leave the door unlocked and they don't have to break any glass or punching you holster your vehicle but put an alarm on the alarm will go off and they'll leave
I think it’s come to a point now that if a manufacturer made a van with genuine top notch security out of the factory it would be a big seller. I hate the fact my transit is an easy target!
Unfortunately it’s an old problem. In the final analysis fit hasp and staples to the cargo area doors and shielded round padlocks, not pretty but slows the twats down. If they want in, they’ll get in. It’s all a risk now and ford don’t want the problems just the sales.
I remember being on the 3rd floor balcony doing a power flush on a heating system. I looked up the road at my van to see another van in the middle of the road with someone smashing the granny out of my door with a hammer and screwdriver. The 2 crack heads notice me looking and made off. Called the police saying they had just made off as there only round the corner and they didn't even turn up. What chance have we trademen got. I've had tools knicked in london I'd say about 6 times. Moved away from the shit hole now 5 years ago. van ain't been touched.
Why Are Ford Themselves Not Sorting This Out.. Because Of Thier Weak Standard Security... And You Pay An Arm And Leg For Your Van... Ford And Many Other Makers Should Pay And Have This As Standard.. Not Aftermarket..
I personally have a very large stanley fat max pro mobile jobchest 113L box, it gets most tools needed for the day in cluding a makita radio!and i take it in my house at night. it has wheels and it good for pulling onto site ect.you do have to take other tools with you on the day you need them mitre saws ect but after a while it becomes easy to manage what you need on that specific day. #givethemnothing I hope this helps.
I had all my tools stolen and so it is a long and slow process replacing tools and learning which tools you no longer have when you have a job that requires a certain tool. This is political from my point of view how this theft has come about worldwide. We need to build a community outside of the law enforcers who simply act on behalf of corporations and Government who run a business themselves at the detriment of people who just want to live.
Unfortunately driving one of them these thieves know it’s a work truck with tools or equipment etc... I have mine fitted with welded locks it looks good but it’s sad that we need this stuff for our vehicles. Great video

Funny how if you say something that offended someone online they can use the same technology to find where you live and pay you a visit within the week tho Just ordered one for my van
Political parties have no long term vision as they are only concerned with short term to get voted back in it sucks unfortunately but it’s the world we live in
I've made a strong box for the back of my van that's bolted to the floor and also a blue tooth WiFi camera that records . When the van is up my drive the WiFi in the house is connected to it and it records 24 hours a day with infrared . Also I don't leave my tools in the van so all they would be doing is damaging the van and wasting there time being recorded trying to undo my empty box whilst I have been already woken up by my camera alarm on my phone . Hope they leave me alone .
Who cares where it’s made? All vehicles are made all over the world, Triumph (bikes) are made in Thailand, some honda’s in India, ect. It’s 2021. I just got rid of my rusty mk7 because of ULEZ, and the mk8 drives way way better . It’s not like nobody breaks into the mk7 is it ?

We had a transit stolen once brand new it was. Police told us they knew by next day where it was but they would not arrest anyone because they wanted to know what they were going to do with it first? two week later it came back hand painted blue colour and not a god bless you from the coppers. They had their man and we could just inform the insurance, hey ho! Any trades person or traders who does not have a Thatcham 2 and independent immobiliser on their van is just asking for trouble. Also a tool safe bolted to the floor helps for the expensive gear. Forget trackers they only work after the event has happened! We should all hope that the spivs arses fester and they put the price of Vaseline up to £60 a jar!
Simple fix tbh van vaults or a cage or if your real fancy a switch in the cab that unlocks the doors to the back through a solenoid man if you have all three no thief will be able to get in without you hearing the alarm.
Line the roof with multifoils. They clog up the angle grinder. Plywood is also good because the metal cutting blade just gets hot. Multifoils and plywood is better still.
What these van manufacturers are selling is just not good enough. Commercial vehicles have been a target for thieves for years, yet they continue to do nothing meaningful about vulnerabilities. Why should we have to spend £k’s fixing a problem that shouldn’t even exist. Ford are probably the worst culprit, but none of the current manufacturers seem to be taking this seriously. If all commercial vehicles had better physical security as standard, there would be a lot less thieving from them.
Well, well, you should not keep your vehicles on the road over the night. Keep the vehicle in the garage not the rubbish or build fence around your house and keep the vehicle inside. .. That is the only sure way..
Another trick is either getting a key made from the VIN number on the dash or taking the lock barrel for the bonnet and making the key from that. How fucking hard is it for a van manufacturer to make it difficult in time and loud enough to draw loads of attention. Having said that, cat thieves make loads of noise for 2 minutes. 6 cats stolen from my residential car park while people watch.
What you really need is a system that electrifies the whole shell of the van , ideally 3 phase . The low life scumbags will get off it a bit sharpish then ! .... ;-)
Jayne4 … the voltage doesn't have to be drastic to stop them I bet there's a way to adapt electric fence technology, like used on a farm, to blow them a jolt every time they jiggle the door handle. Of course that might piss them off enough to put a rock through the window, but they still wont open the door.
Jayen4 it’s been done where the handles are electrified when the van is locked. Because he has signage on the van stating it’s live, he can get away it
This happened to me back in august in the middle of the day outside a police station, drilled a hole next to the slam lock, cut a gash in the bottom back lock and bent the door in half getting the hook on dead bolt out. Police did nothing. Should set those sensors up to nail bombs, that'll put an end to van theft
I put a wireless sensor from my house alarm in my transit now ... i had it 3 months befor it was stolen i got it back the next day like but never the less the little bastards still cost me for a new door lock and steering lock...
Best way to stop someone breaking in to your van is to get some signage on it (can even be a temporary magnetic one) that says something along the lines of “Sally’s dog walking company”. Ain’t nobody breaking in to that smelly van.
Ok also a good idea. I was basically trying to think of a business that needs a van that would have almost zero value in terms of contents. Suppose an ambulance might have some nice drugs worth stealing

Typical Ford! I’ve stopped driving their cars and vans since 1996!
Had my van on my drive with side door open. One of the builders working a couple of doors down walks up and starts looking inside. I came out of the house and asked what he wanted and he said "Just looking for a light" as in his cigarette. 2 days later van gets busted into. Coincidence?
He obviously robbed you or tipped someone off
Surely Ford should be addressing this with a solution. You’re doing their job for them.
I'd bet that Ford took the cheaper route with their solution.
There was a similar thing with Citroen Berlingo vans not too long ago. I can't say about the newer ones as I have not owned one, but the earlier ones were so ridiculously easy to access that you wonder why you bothered to lock them at all.
I sorted mine out relatively easily but only after being caught in a car park in Watford and losing the entire contents in half an hour of booking into a hotel.
id fit the outside shield regardless.lets thief know the vans had a internal shield fitted
Ive just purchased one of these from Sussex installations and after struggling to fit it realised that it is the wrong shape and is not compatible with my 2019 transit custom. Despite this video showing the latest custom van and the graphic showing the latest custom van ( led headlight model ) sussex installations i formed me that the product will not fit the latest generation of transit Customs. The order for. Does ask for the model year but they are still sent it out .
There is another form of defence, do not buy things from the “man in the pub”. Also when offered anything on the cheap, pass the details on to the police. Cut the buggers source of cash off (and if you catch them, their balls as well).
The Police wouldn't be interested! :(
@@Sash_Window Yup, when a load of my tools were stolen last year, the police couldn't really care less. I don't blame them in a way, how much tax dollars should they spend investigating a >10,000 theft... Better security is the right move from the start, because once it's gone, your in for a headache. Even with good insurance.
@@cliftonobrien588 they are too busy investigating mean tweets on the internet :/
A litte while back had some dodgy characters in my street knocking on door to door trying to sell tools. There are a lot of trades living in my street and we all told them where to go. Except one. A builder went to the scums car and brought some tools, a neigbour has it on CCTV. That man is now a pariah in our community and he knows it.
@@tilerman I would have invited them in and then knocked f**k out them! Had my van and £6k worth of tools stolen in August! Still trying to recover from it now
Need to add 40000 volts to the shield install so that the thief gets the shock of their lives....
Have your van covered in florist decals. They won't think any tools are in it.
Some just take the whole van for the engine and parts
I guess the added security has to be considered, I was dumb to think I wouldn't get hit twice :-(
Leave it unlocked and your insurance won't pay out
@EmcIcon unfortunately by law they do not forfeit any rights and you would be the one to get jailed
@EmcIcon the law in my country is a joke! What was the need to insult me?
@EmcIcon well for a start I'm Scottish and have no desire to remain part of the UK. And what throwing insults around has to do with van security I do not know🤷♂️
Good idea I guess. But then they poke a hole, find the shield...then break the window anyway lol. A lock only keeps honest people out.
Out of interest was it alarmed?
We need more helpful lads like you guys on here! Nice one boys, cheers.
Thank you we try to bring the information to the trade.
Had my custom done 2nights ago 🙈 even my local ford didnt know how they did it! Thanks you guys keep up the good work 👍🏻👍🏻
Sorry to hear about that James. It is a terrible feeling to lose all that and know that somebody else is buying it for a fraction of what you paid.
I have no faith in the main dealers, they seem not very clued up when you compare them to Jeff.
They do know , just won't admit it
Thanks Sussex Installations and Skill Builder! Ordered and arrived next day. Doddle to fit, 10 mins at most. Just buy one.
That is good to know. Let us hope it keeps your tools safe.
Builders , BEWARE
Bastards work in teams , you visit suppliers one follows you around shop timing you ,others pull as near to van as poss then clean your van out , whilst twat inside ,informs them of your movements , all the time in the world and not worried about you catching them
Got done once when I first started on the tools.
They charge enough for the f-ing things!
monika laosi ....because your a tea leaf trying to pick up tips from guys telling how they got there vans broken into.....😀
Last year van got robbed twice. I swear to god I really considered purchasing a hearse funeral van. Plenty of room inside coffin for tools.. I don't care what you say your not breaking into that
Not a bad idea really.
A hearse would be appropriate if you catch the scumbag
I’ve solved my problems in my Transit Custom. I live in it!!!
I slept in my van at a job one night and somebody broke into it. The van wasn't alarmed but I was.
Bought a shield today from Sussex. Thx guys!
After having my tools nicked the police exact words on the phone was " what do you expect us to do about it" & the case was automatically closed 😣
I would write to your local crime commissioner and tell them. They are there to bring the police to book.
I can’t understand why manufacturers have not cottoned on that if they spent more time on security n less on cup holders it might help the tradesmen
If somebody made a much more secure van it would sell. I think they are missing a trick.
Touch wood
Good call guys , saw this today and shared it 👌🏼🧱👍🏼
Why Are Ford Themselves Not Sorting This Out.. Because Of Thier Weak Standard Security... And You Pay An Arm And Leg For Your Van... Ford And Many Other Makers Should Pay And Have This As Standard.. Not Aftermarket..
Seen this in a mate's transit. The hole was less than 10mm. Artists.
Please don't call these scum artists. They are bastards of the first order.
#givethemnothing
I hope this helps.
If I had a new transit and come out to see that hole in the morning I’d be sick
I had all my tools stolen and so it is a long and slow process replacing tools and learning which tools you no longer have when you have a job that requires a certain tool.
This is political from my point of view how this theft has come about worldwide.
We need to build a community outside of the law enforcers who simply act on behalf of corporations and Government who run a business themselves at the detriment of people who just want to live.
I'm in
Unfortunately driving one of them these thieves know it’s a work truck with tools or equipment etc... I have mine fitted with welded locks it looks good but it’s sad that we need this stuff for our vehicles. Great video
3 of my Volkswagen Van's been done. Have CCTV of the thefts and police just send a letter one week later and say case closed.
The police are just not active. There is no political will to solve this.
Police are not interested my mum has dementia I look after her she had her bank card copied and account emptied they bought stuff on eBay etc easy enough to tack but they are not interested.
Funny how if you say something that offended someone online they can use the same technology to find where you live and pay you a visit within the week tho
Just ordered one for my van

Political parties have no long term vision as they are only concerned with short term to get voted back in it sucks unfortunately but it’s the world we live in
I've got the Renault Trafic. Same problem.
I make it a point to park overnight with it backed up against a hard surface, (Garage wall)
Does he do a gatling gun? Had my transits done in 4 times in the last few years 🤬
fieryfreddo just sell it and get something else
Yes, change it and get a VW.
Never had any issues.

fieryfreddo were you live probably in some dodgy place?
What's that in English?
Nissan nv400 (renault/fiat) are also useless. Too easy to break into.
That's why I've kept my mk7. Plus the new transit is made in Turkey I believe.
me too mk7 old skool but...works
Who cares where it’s made? All vehicles are made all over the world, Triumph (bikes) are made in Thailand, some honda’s in India, ect. It’s 2021.
I just got rid of my rusty mk7 because of ULEZ, and the mk8 drives way way better . It’s not like nobody breaks into the mk7 is it ?
@@hoonaticbloggs5402 wtf? The people who used to make them in Southampton cared as they lost their jobs! And all the small companies that made parts for the manufacturing process.

Why not get some "danger, radioactive materials. Protective clothing & detection equipment must be used" stickers.
David … now you only have to worry about terrorists who want to make a dirty bomb, right?
Thats the problems with modern vans and cars everyone thinks an alarm gonna stop them great video. Ford dont care!
Do you guys ship out to the U.S?
Is this valid for the Ford Transit Connect as well?
Simple fix tbh van vaults or a cage or if your real fancy a switch in the cab that unlocks the doors to the back through a solenoid man if you have all three no thief will be able to get in without you hearing the alarm.
Ive had 3 nicked. Caught on CCTV it looked as easy as if they had the key.
It is just about some pressure switches on the transits that tells ecu the doors are closed can be tampered with open all the doors
@@micjubba709 They started it and drove off in them easy as anything. Any ideas how they did that?
Any tips for stopping them coming through the roof with a battery angle grinder? 😫
Line the roof with multifoils. They clog up the angle grinder. Plywood is also good because the metal cutting blade just gets hot. Multifoils and plywood is better still.
supply a couple of stickers saying that the shield has been fitted.
In Romanian and Albanian?
They got me in this morning all my equipment gone 7000£ I’ll send your video to my company and will sort it out from there
Bastards
They are also buying a lock pick off ebay for about £30
On my transit van I have made a rig so I can ratchet strap my side door to prevent the door from being folded over.
good idea. I would love to see that done from the outside by a remote control on a motor.
Same, and rear doors chained and strapped shut
What these van manufacturers are selling is just not good enough. Commercial vehicles have been a target for thieves for years, yet they continue to do nothing meaningful about vulnerabilities. Why should we have to spend £k’s fixing a problem that shouldn’t even exist. Ford are probably the worst culprit, but none of the current manufacturers seem to be taking this seriously. If all commercial vehicles had better physical security as standard, there would be a lot less thieving from them.
It's alright installing slam locks dead locks security shield, alarms but the damage is already done... What gives?
Hide in the back , break some arms and legs , dump them far from home , word would soon get around , works both ways 😎
Only MK8 or MK7 also?
I’m using a Morris Minor Traveller!
Whats the price
Why are ford not doing this
Thanks for the information.
If they drill the bodywork isn’t drilling your bracket secondly just the same
They don't drill the bodywork they use a can opener. The plate is stainless steel and takes ages to drill through
Why from 2014 onwards ????
What you really need is a system that electrifies the whole shell of the van , ideally 3 phase . The low life scumbags will get off it a bit sharpish then ! .... ;-)
Jayne4 … the voltage doesn't have to be drastic to stop them I bet there's a way to adapt electric fence technology, like used on a farm, to blow them a jolt every time they jiggle the door handle. Of course that might piss them off enough to put a rock through the window, but they still wont open the door.
Jayen4 it’s been done where the handles are electrified when the van is locked. Because he has signage on the van stating it’s live, he can get away it
It's called a tesla coil.... or use something similar to an electric fence or cattle prod
One of my mate side door of his transit cut of make the side the more stronger
This happened to me back in august in the middle of the day outside a police station, drilled a hole next to the slam lock, cut a gash in the bottom back lock and bent the door in half getting the hook on dead bolt out. Police did nothing. Should set those sensors up to nail bombs, that'll put an end to van theft
Luckily brexit happened and you have control over your borders again.
The only thing we cannot control is stupid fuckers on you tube
