So hilarous GS still has to clarify RATE fight. Although when I'm on his server as a blue Viper out of Beslan trying to accomplish the A-G missions most of the time I leave feeling like I experienced what some people misthink he's saying.
mig 29 is really a dangerous weapon. but it never went to perfect pilots. such aggressive maneuverability is even dangerous for many 4+ gen pilot in within visual range combat
Yeah, they were never flown correctly in combat. The MiG-29 was designed as a short-range point defense fighter for the Soviet Air Force but was used as a multirole fighter by most export customers. Had the Soviets used it, they would have had AWACS support and the best ordnance. Instead these planes were pushed into roles they couldn't handle by countries that could not maintain them properly, leading to them getting blown out of the sky easily by F-15s and F-16s with AWACS support, datalinks, constant radar upgrades (plus simply having to RTB quickly). I'm obviously glad the Cold War never turned hot, but the MiG-29 in the hands of well-trained Soviet/Russian pilots with sufficient support would have earned it a much better reputation.

I somehow thought that the JF-17 would have the advantage over the Mig-29 since the former is a more modern fighter but this proved that Mig-29s work well against the JF-17s given the right circumstances.

They normally boost their performance for propaganda, some clear stuff are jeef having hmd , refuling probe in block 2 ,the sd10 turns like a python and perform better than a 120c5 in bvr which isn't true . The stats are boosted for about 15-20% of actual fighter

Great vid! I've found that I can usually get the vertical scan mode to work quickly by switching between the Vertical scan and another scan mode (like boresight) back and forth quickly. Seems to do rather well for me in BFM engagements.
Hornet ACM modes are also problematic, sometimes I have to power cycle the radar in order for them to work. Similar stuff happens with the tpod from time to time. I'm pretty sure these issues are caused by DCS' spaghetti code, not by simulated radar limitations.

Thats the point, chinese claims have been historically mind boggling but their equipment doesnt show the same in field. U can see historic chinese exports and even drones which later fall out of sky or worse, stay in hangars

With all blss and whistles, usch as AESA radar, MAWS, IRST with FLIR capability, new airframe + wing and control surfaces, two more pylons under wing, digital fly-by-wireand 9 t thust engines. MiG-29UPG is a upgrade package for MiG-29A 9-12/9-13 that is analoguos to Russian MiG-29SMT of latest variant (there were a lot of SMT subtypes, mainly with different radar upgrades), which include new radar (but not AESA, old N019 with Cassegrain antenna is replaces with N010M(2?) with slotted array, glass cockpit, new rwr/radio and wcs and upgraed engines with improved service life, though no increase of thrust. The airframe and control remains the same. If we to take comparison, Indian Navy's MiG-29K are more advanced than MiG-29UPG, and MiG-35 is based on formers airframe.

So i've been learning the Jeff for a while now and i think its a great plane. The radar is great, i think the only downside to it is that the VT ACM mode takes a while to lock as radar takes a while to complete a full vertical movement. That being said, great jet with a lot of potential
Interesting fight. I have pretty good luck not getting killed by R-73, but I have to be out of blower and get about 8-10 flares out. Both of those aircraft have limited CMs and little time to react in that scenario.
There is like an urban legend in Romania, that the Ceausescu regime gave the plans for the IAR 95 Spey to the Chinese. True or not, the JF-17 quite resembles the final variant of the IAR 95 project. Romania didn't have the money or the capability to finish the project as the Soviets refuse to give us an engine for the fighter.
Dumb question: How do these missiles destroy their target, is it by detonation on impact? Or do they detonate within a couple feet and throw out shrapnel?
JF 17 engineers not only know their aerodynamics but also their psychology, That soft voice really makes me wanna listen and care about what happening. Taps into my boyfriend instincts really well lol.
If you look in the cockpit of the Jeff there is a button to enable a helmet tracking system, sadly it's not implemented or it isn't on the variant we got.
Now, when F16`s radar detection range has been reduced, jeff`s radar is actually better in bvr. It has a bit more range, can track targets way below you (no poblem hitting guys sneaking just above the ground while flying at 40k), and is pretty mush immune to notching. But yeah, ACM modes are not that good and vertical scan zone is lower than viper`s BTW, can you do some jeff BVR fights?

I am from India and i know the jf17 has better advantage as it is a newly deployed. While the IAF mig29upgrd is still an old aircraft no matter how much we keep on upgrading. It's place must be the museum

Pakistani and chinese engineers used F16 as inspiration and to incorporate russian and chinese parts they had to design it to readily fit these components. The indians claim it to be mig21 because they want to tarnish the image of JF17 as an obsolete fighter jet but truth is with new block 3 upgrades it will be much more deadly than most 4.5 gen fighters Mig21 is nowhere near in the picture.

If they would fire before the merge, it wouldn't be a dogfight. Also there are situations where you could end in a dogfight. Imagine two enemy planes flying in valleys and suddenly they met each other without any warning.
@@zetazane Not at all. Most rules of engagement requires a visual identification of a bandit before you shoot it down. IFF systems exist but they can not identify enemies. Only friendlies and if its not a friendly, its unkown. Could still be a civil aircraft that dont have a IFF system a friendly that has a malfunction with its IFF system. Also if you fight in the mountains like in a Swiss environment, you wont be able to use your radars to see in every valley. So you could accidentally merge with a bandit there.
The way IAF does upgrades fulcrum will end up with Not just Adders but also Derby and Indian Astra for BVR and Python/Asraam for wvr. They got R-73s on Mirage 2000s and spice 2000 bombs on Su-30s

To use a Hotas system (Hands on throttle on stick). Its a throttle and stick combo which also have a lot buttons on it easily reachable so that you can controll almost the entrie plane without moving your hands off.

It has a HMD and can carry the pl-10 90 degree off bore sight missile.

Mostly by proximity shrapnel

You should switch aircrafts between rounds. We don't know if your buddy is as good a pilot as you or if you are as good as a pilot as he is.

Problem is, there's no professional module in DCS of Su30. The one there is, has too many bugs. Often damage model doesn't work etc.
If you look in the cockpit of the Jeff there is a button to enable a helmet tracking system, sadly it's not implemented or it isn't on the variant we got.
Its not implemented because the real Block 1 dont have it too.

Now, when F16`s radar detection range has been reduced, jeff`s radar is actually better in bvr. It has a bit more range, can track targets way below you (no poblem hitting guys sneaking just above the ground while flying at 40k), and is pretty mush immune to notching. But yeah, ACM modes are not that good and vertical scan zone is lower than viper`s

VIRPIL Constellation Alpha + CM3 Throttle. A bit expensive, but the quality is more than worth it.

Its a mix between the american F-20 and chinese J-7 (Which is basically a MiG-21)
Mig 21 is nowhere near as capable as JF17

The indians claim it to be mig21 because they want to tarnish the image of JF17 as an obsolete fighter jet but truth is with new block 3 upgrades it will be much more deadly than most 4.5 gen fighters

If they would fire before the merge, it wouldn't be a dogfight. Also there are situations where you could end in a dogfight. Imagine two enemy planes flying in valleys and suddenly they met each other without any warning.
chances are a "real dogfight" wont happen at all. the majority of recent air combat has been BVR, not turn fighting.
@@zetazane Not at all. Most rules of engagement requires a visual identification of a bandit before you shoot it down. IFF systems exist but they can not identify enemies. Only friendlies and if its not a friendly, its unkown. Could still be a civil aircraft that dont have a IFF system a friendly that has a malfunction with its IFF system. Also if you fight in the mountains like in a Swiss environment, you wont be able to use your radars to see in every valley. So you could accidentally merge with a bandit there.
What about MiG-29 with R-77? Indian MiG-29 likely will have them after upgrades.
The way IAF does upgrades fulcrum will end up with Not just Adders but also Derby and Indian Astra for BVR and Python/Asraam for wvr. They got R-73s on Mirage 2000s and spice 2000 bombs on Su-30s

The PL-10 was added with the Block 3 standart to the JF-17 and we have a Block 1 version in DCS.
@@Mike_Romeo PL-15 will be added to Block 3 as well, which is interesting, because it will be a monkey model. I'm assuming it will have capabilities similar to the "real" PL-12, which itself is a monkey model in its SD-10 export form.

What’s a good way to use all the controls when you are in VR?
To use a Hotas system (Hands on throttle on stick). Its a throttle and stick combo which also have a lot buttons on it easily reachable so that you can controll almost the entrie plane without moving your hands off.
I have a HOTAS, but when Im playing in VR it’s not easy to adjust all the other control commands such as arming weapons, etc.
You keep getting missles between the eyes because you forget to duck. :)
