  • Pittsburgh Malls. One of the most hated dead malls in the US. Why is it? The loud colors? The needless construction? TH-camr induced influence? Let's step inside & find out.

    I'm with you about kiosks. They're the mall equivalent of those people who stand in the middle of an aisle and grow roots.
    This Mills mall looks much more upscale than the typical junky Mills. The floors are especially nice.

    My ex-girlfriend moved here and ran the Sephora for a while in the JCP-we are both from Barboursville, WV.
    I wasn’t here much, but I actually enjoyed the mall and felt similarly to you about it. I worked out at their gym while she was at work, and then scoped out the comic book shop. This was all before I joined the Air Force and got sick from an exposure at my base. Now that good relationship is gone and all I have are these sort of memories, as I lay in a NYC nursing home with a terminal disease at 35 y.o. What a way life has changed.
    Thank you for allowing me to tour this past, for me. I enjoyed your review of the Huntington Mall (WV) also. Pure nostalgia, my friend.

    Far cry from Arizona Mills. It's a really busy mall. It's funny how the floors and lights are the same yet the occupancy is healthy and the food court is full

    It appears this mall was destine to fail from the start. It's too huge to draw a crowd of shoppers daily to support the operating costs like electricity, maintenance workers, and janitorial staff and then make large profits. Store owners just couldn't pay the ridiculous rent charges. In a few years it could be renamed Century III Part Two.

      This also leads to the perception problem that the mall is always empty, because even when there are people shopping in the stores, the hallways have always looked vacant. You get the feeling when you're there that you're with someone who is about to die. But the individual stores like Dick's, Penney's, Macy's and New Dimension Comics always seem to have a lot of people inside shopping when I'm there.

    Nice opening shot coming in from Tawney Run, everyone else just shoots from 28 North. The NASCAR park was never even supposed to happen, Mills just advertised it as opening soon because they couldn't even fill this when it was new and they had them at their other malls. I didn't realize the H&M was gone, it was one of the first in Pittsburgh. That Pizza shop has been there from day one under the same name. I don't know how it survives.

      The opening shot was a side effect of me trying to avoid all the toll roads. After half an hour of Waze trying to force me onto I-76, it took me down a bunch of side roads & finally through New Kensington.

      @mike_mcgregor 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DoomieGruntVentures You can turn off toll roads in Waze but I'm guessing you were coming from I 70 around New Stanton if you came through New Ken, toll 66 or 376 is the easiest way so that's how they send you. Excellent video and Merry Christmas.

    Now that Century III is gone, Pittsburgh Mills has taken its place as the deadest mall in town. You could call it Century III 2.0.

    Even if this mall opened 15-20 years sooner than when it did, it wouldn't have mattered. Nearby Ross Park and Monroeville Mall were already established by that timeframe and this place still would have flopped.

  • @gildersleevefan67
    @gildersleevefan67 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Opening weekend--Pennsylvania State Police were parked all along route 28 looking to get speeders. Inside the mall, security guards walking all over, making you feel like they didn't even want people to go there. This was and still is my first mall to go to if I'm looking for something. But this mall like many others suffered from things that were out of its control to begin with, like the bankruptcy of Borders, Sears, Linens n Things and other stores. It's just too big to begin with and then losing so many important retailers didn't help. The food court was never that great even when it had about five or six choices to eat at. Funny thing is, despite the generally accepted belief that this mall is a failusre, the nearby Wal-Mart and the next door outdoor shopping centers are very successful.

    As a few days ago, Everyone must go it's up for a Sheriff's Sale. Everyone must go ? Sounds like the Mall quite possibly may be torn down, I'd hate to see a gorgeous Mall like the Pittsburgh Mills be a pile of rubble.
    I've been in that Mall a half dozen times and it's as huge in person as it is in a video.

    Most Mills malls are still doing well like Gurnee Mills. Opry Mills Colorado Mills ect but there were a few flops like this one and St Louis Mills. I am with you about Villa it's good I went there all the time when it was in my malls food court which no sadly it's gone but at least we have a Sabbaro there instead.

    Another thing this mall has against it is you havta take 28 to get there. That awful loathsome road has been plagued with construction issues and & landslides for as long as I can remember and I’ve lived in Pittsburgh my entire life. If you live in the south getting there is a long trek, tunnels bridges and heavy traffic. I have been there a few times and that’s only because I worked in the area for 3 years. Everything outside of the mall, the other stores and eateries etc seem to be doing well. My sister lives out past it and that’s where they go to shop & she says it is. It looks to be well maintained as well. I honestly used to go to century III because everthing I needed or wanted was there or right around it. Now I go to the mall at Robinson for the same reason which is completely full. I was just there & only saw 1 closed small space. Also the roads to & from are in good condition. In Pittsburgh that’s a huge plus. Our roads in PA suck. Otherwise, It’s too bad for this one like u said. It looks very nice. I really like it’s ascetics.

      Nailed it. 28 sucks. Always has always will. Any highway that has or had a section called the "Death Stretch" is a red flag.

    I was here a few months ago. Looks sad to be so empty, but it appears they are attracting less traditional tenants like training centers and that gym so hopefully that can help them keep the place afloat. It's unique and colorful.

    I used to go here around 2007-2011. It was an okay mall but it always had empty storefronts, almost like the place was never fully occupied. It's so far away from me that going there is inconvenient

    It seems like the Mills malls were all set up to be too big to fail. I know that this isn't the only one of the Mills malls out there that has fallen on hard times.
    I've been to Sugarloaf Mills (Formerly known as Discover Mills), and Concord Mills.
    Both never really seemed to be very populated, yet the occupancy is amazingly high at both.
    Its weird, honestly.
