They're a billion times better live than they are on their studio albums which is really saying something. The mark of truly great musicians. They do so much awesome improv live.
The way they effortlessly merge between the song and a random jam has always been impressive. This is absolutely one of those bands you have to see live to get the full experience
One of my absolute favorite songs from "Primus". I saw them in Mizner Park Florida years ago. A night with Primus in which they played Cheese in its entirety. Did three sets. Two random sets and Cheese in the middle. When they got to this song, not only did he leave the intro going forever, Les actually made a mistake and made a joke about it. It was great to see that the Pros even trip up from time to time. I managed to purchase a recording of the entire show as well. Back then they were recording their shows and making them available for sale online. I can relive that night anytime I want. Although Primus ventured pretty far from their original sound, I still love them. As a bass player I will forever be a fan. Les is one of my biggest influences. I don't really care for much of their stuff from Green N on but still love them and listen to anything available. I absolutely love the Les n Lennon stuff. What I always envisioned for Les but, WTF do I know? right. Les is his own and has earned his right to do wtf he wants. Came very close to doing a track with Tim Alexander years ago when he was not with Primus and doing his Fata Morgana project from Ghost studios. Right in the midst of getting Tim tracks, he rejoined the trio and unfortunately tapped from doing the track. Knocked the wind out of me. Likely my biggest upset out my 35 years of playing. It just wasnt meant to be.
Love his drumming. Sorry you missed out man, but who knows whatll happen in the future you know? Keep those chops up and who knows who youll be recording with. Rock on brother
Not only can you relive that night anytime you want to, we have this too, th-cam.com/video/PJnC54WMENs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=VyP52r6uS_D6vsuS It's just the "Seas Of Cheese" portion. "Seas Of Cheese" cuts in, but the 2nd-set is there in its entirety after that.
This song was based on a sturgeon he caught fishing with his father when he was young. He used 17 lb test but said 20 in the trilogy to sound better. He is a true fisherman and goes whenever he can. As a fisherman myself the respect this song has for the fish he caught speaks in greatest appreciation.
If he indeed caught a 100 lb sturgeon on 17-20 pound test line that is an insane, insane catch. Sturgeon are insanely strong fish and they break people off using gear designed to catch them regularly.
@@cinematicsterling6897 My first Primus CD... Picked it up right before I saw them at Woodstock 94... I've seen them and other Claypool iterations about 10 times since.
Man, do I miss the "Pork Soda" stuff from the recent tours. I've only heard "Mud" & "Bob" over the past several years. :/ This version of "Sturgeon" kicks so much ass!
I started listening to Primus in about the 10th grade. Does that make me old? Fuck! I don't feel old. Anyway. I only listened to them for a couple of years. But for almost a year now I have been going back because I have a lot of friends who got to their concerts and swear these guys are the best. And I have always liked Primus. So I went back. I went back and I even learned more about Primus. All I did was listen blind before. Now I see the talent. The fishing skills. The videos. These guys are just as cool as they were when I first heard them and even better because I rediscovered them and realized that they were better than I even knew back in the days when I first heard of them. I grew up fishing in San Pablo Bay and catching sturgeon. I fish Bolinas Lagoon and catch sharks and stingrays. The videos are on my other channel. They did John The Fisherman on a charter boat in what I think was about around Sausolito and Paradise California. In a nut shell. Primus Rules. I am going to share this on a few videos because I believe it and I like it. Now fuck off. I'm going fishing.
Thanks so much #retsaot1 for posting this. It's the first and only time I've heard this song live and I've been searching for a live version pretty much since the album was released. Again, thanks...
It's been some long two years since I last got to listen to Primus like I'm doing today. Two years ago I didn't know mostly anything about bass guitars, the only thing I knew was that Les Claypool was the best (despite not having many parameters to compare). Two years later, and having started learning bass myself and researching a lot, here I am... only to find out he's still the best!
my favourite tune of theirs; a strange but peaceful little ballad. I love how long and almost psychedelic in nature this particular rendition is

This was sooo good yes killed like a studio album. Was a great show!!!
They really are. Every live rendition I love way more than the studio cuts. And I LOVE the studio cuts
14 minutes of music over a fish. Gotta love it!
Brian Wofford this is just a small part of the tale
And he’s clearly never caught a 6 foot sturgeon

I saw them do Rush last year. I’ve seen Les like 40 times, I’ve seen Primus maybe 10. The fisherman saga is amongst my favorite stories

As a fisherman and Primus fan, the Fisherman Chronicles are tops on my list. This at the top of it.
How is this better than John the Fisherman? Maybe it's better than Fish On and the Last Salmon Man.
It is the perspective of the song. It is written from the fish’s perspective and rhythm and tempo is perfect for a cruising sturgeon. Love it!
I met the man while I was wearing a boat captains hat and he said I had a cool hat

matt yancick Did he catch and release?

@@fishoutofwater7743 That's awesome! I was wondering the same thing. Glad to hear that monster continued to grow!
I couldn't have been a diamondback sturgeon though because they only live in the Caspian Sea.
Pork Soda was such an amazingly bizarre album...
it’s their best album in my opinion

my favorite!
I agree. It also has some of the best drumming I've ever heard.
@@75harg I was there too! Seeing Jerry Cantrell come out and play "Harold of the Rocks" with Primus was so cool.

I've gotten Mud and Welcome to this World a bunch.

You're wrong, Primus sucks
I was there...Think they opened with this...Nearly lost my mind...Much love from South Africa...
To defeat your enemy in battle, and then sing a song in his honor, is the Klingon way.
Grrrrrrrr! That is how the Klingon lures his mate!
😂
Primus was at their musical Peak during this era. The only time they ever got close to this was the 3D tour in 2013.
Jay lane brought so much energy into the band you can really see it resonate in les and lers playing
I thought 3d was 2013?
2011 was oddity fair
I can’t agree if you suggesting they declined
Just a matter of opinion and it’s absolutely my jam!
@@theenlightenedhypocrite5328 The Enlightened Heckler....
Nearly 14 minutes of fisherman goodness.
I fuckin love the groove on this song. Thanks for the live (and clean!) version
Ohhhhhhh this was such a good show. I was there!!!!!!!
Primus during the Tour De Fromage was a magnificent thing.
I just can't get over how he can make the bass sound a sitar

che viaggi mi sono fatto con sto pezzo. l'ho cercato tantissimo, ma live è difficile trovarlo, grazie per averlo pubblicato.

Ever check out Geddy Lee(RUSH)?
No he sucks. Primus sucks!
2nd best. listen to some Victor Wooten. Best in rock, yes...
Kleverson Royther he unlocked a lot of what today’s bass players take for granted
sputnut I’d agree that Wooten is the best bass player but I wouldn’t say he’s a rock artist. (Just trying time justify Les’s spot on top)
This song definitely needs busted out on their next tour....perhaps all four of the fishermans chronicles in a row?
Only makes sense to do so, you know?
I love the Irish twang in this song. It reminds me of music from the Renaissance era.
Can't wait to go sturgeon fishin' in July. Fraser River mighty White sturgeon, though. We wont be using any grass shrimp either.
catch anything?
This my favorite of theirs
Kickass version!
THANK YOU!
Tim is a fucking legend
Fuck man. Excellent I been u 4 days quit my job shit load of so clean. And PRIMUS I'd like thank the little man
This should of been one of the tracks. Could of been called, "Extended Version"
@SrbUNC42 John, Fish On, Ol Diamondback, and Last Salmon Man... Epic
Frizzle Fry and Sailing The Seas Of Cheese and Pork Soda studio albums were the very best of Primus the band were in their prime.
i love this! PREEEMUS
God I wish I was there.
I
I like around 5:15 where Herb looks like a ghost trynna breakdance but he only knows one move. Lovely fish music, though.
AWESOME
And i just found this savory bit
Damn you're fine.
Orpheum Theatre baby, Boston MA.
Love U , Les Claypool
oh crazy!!
I to am a fishereman
Um...... Jay played this song multiple times on frog brigade tour in 2000/2001 and it sounded just fine
Brain intro, damn……
Perfect ,just like Joy Division
If further proof is needed that primus still sucks, feast on this
I saw them open for Rush once or twice, and when they did Farewell to Kings tour. I'd go again
What’s Les idea for 2vocal mikes anybody know why
one is the sandman mic

Primus tomorrow night
