It was surely an World Cup classic. A few key pointers:- 1. Brazil's 1st goal was pure artistry in display. The turn by Zico to dodge Gentile and one more approaching Italian was the work of a genius and then came the sublime finish from Socrates. 2. Referee was too lenient. The repeated fouls on Zico by Gentile would have earned him probably a red card from 1986 World Cup onwards. 3. Brazil was denied a sure penalty in the 1st half when Zico was fouled in a goal scoring position inside the box and his jersey was torn. 4. It was well known that defence wasn't not the strength or for that matter world class for this team and was mostly in disarray. But the mispass from a quality player like Cerezo that resulted in Italy Goal no 2 reflected an approach too casual for an World Cup match of this criticality. 5. Brazil No 9 was a complete misfit in that group. Apart from missing a sitter in 1st half, he was mostly out of sync with the attacking orchestra. 6. Apart from No 9, some other much acclaimed Brazilian lefends missed free kicks from striking range in abundance. This includes Eder, Junior, Cerezo, Falcao and Zico himself. Zico was the most celebrated player of the planet that time and a brilliant free kick spealist. Some if his stature should have at minimum tested Zoff from that range. 7. Surprisingly, Zico was not used as central attacking midfielder where he was so effective and celebrated. He was quite impactful in 1st half but got lost somewhere in the 2nd half. This was a great opportunity for an on field leader like him or Socrates in 2nd half to lead from front when chips were down. Zico had been and still is my all time favourite. So much skill, artistry and brilliance...pure poetry in motion but physically a bit feeble and not capable of bull dozing like more successful Maradona of that era.

The greatest team to play the beautiful game in a beautiful way. A million hearts all over the globe were broken when that match ended. I was 15 in 1982 & just cried like a baby. If only they were selfish like other teams and closed the shop after 2-2. A draw was enough. But they had committed to play "Jogo bonito". How can they stop entertaining their fans? If only Careca wasn't injured 😥 After the failure of a weakened squad in 1986, Brazilians changed their tactics to concentrate more on defense & learn the art of professional fouls. Jogo Bonito never came back. And Brazil was never the same to watch except for a brief period with Ronaldinho in 2002 WC.
Thenmatch should have emded 4-2 for Italy. The Refree made a shameful mistake in the fourth italian goal. Brazil had no defense, so it was not a complete team. Italy deserved to win in 1982, being a more solid and organized team.

But most importantly, Zoff stopped and let the ball run into the goal post because he saw the linesman waving the flag, that's why Socrates scored, otherwise Zoff would have stopped that shot.

Brazil had a very mediocre defence which only needed the right team to exploit it...hence Italy! If Scotland, USSR and Argentina managed to score against Brazil Italy knew they could do so aswell. Italy also knew their defence was better than those teams and so could limit Brazil's attack.

Of their four midfielders - Cerezo, Socrates, Zico and Falcao - Zico clearly did not like playing right up and being tightly marked by Gentile and little was seen of him. The other three though were quite superb - laying off 1-2’s, setting up through balls, running off the ball to create gaps and getting in shots on goal.

Muita gente considera esse time ido Brazil injustiçado. Mas se voce observar atentamente o jogo o Brazil tinha um bom meio de capo que chegava bastante a frente mas defesa e ataque fracos. Tele convocou Serginho chulapa, que sempre errou muito, a defesa tirando o Junior era fraca. Goleiro Carlos fraco tambem. Entao nao ha o que reclamar. Taticamente Tele povoou demais o meio de campo. Junior subia pouco o outro lateral tambem. Foi uma coisa parecida com desastre por causa da ilusão brasileira.
A seleção brasileira era uma máquina, exceto pelo Serginho Chulapa. Se levasse o Reinaldo, ele faria pelo menos 2 gols na Itália. Reinaldo foi o melhor jogador que eu vi jogar. Só faltou ele para o Brasil ser campeão do mundo
The Brazilian manager was so shortsighted! Some players in this team shouldn’t ever been ! Junior left back, Serginho , Luisinho , were big mistakes! The goalkeeper was in such a bad shape! The manager has left Jorge Mendonça out of this team ! Paulo Isidoro should be first team, Carlos should be the goalkeeper! Zico was playing so bad ….. he was used to play well against weaker sides ! He didn’t played well in 1982 and 1986( he has missed s very important penalty against France 🇫🇷) ! Falcão was the best player by far compared to other Brazilian players !

Dos grandes selecciones, dos estilos, la improvisación,alegría, contra la mecánica futbolista,dos super equipos.

For all their brilliant attack Brazil had a very mediocre defence and Italy analyzed it perfectly and saw they were beatable.

Brazil had a very mediocre defence which only needed the right team to exploit it...hence Italy! If Scotland, USSR and Argentina managed to score against Brazil Italy knew they could do so aswell. Italy also knew their defence was better than those teams and so could limit Brazil's attack.
@@nicky29031977 Serginho and Eder were non-existent and the defence was cut apart nearly every time the Italians counter attacked. Of their four midfielders - Cerezo, Socrates, Zico and Falcao - Zico clearly did not like playing right up and being tightly marked by Gentile and little was seen of him. The other three though were quite superb - laying off 1-2’s, setting up through balls, running off the ball to create gaps and getting in shots on goal.

Muita gente considera esse time ido Brazil injustiçado. Mas se voce observar atentamente o jogo o Brazil tinha um bom meio de capo que chegava bastante a frente mas defesa e ataque fracos. Tele convocou Serginho chulapa, que sempre errou muito, a defesa tirando o Junior era fraca. Goleiro Carlos fraco tambem. Entao nao ha o que reclamar. Taticamente Tele povoou demais o meio de campo. Junior subia pouco o outro lateral tambem. Foi uma coisa parecida com desastre por causa da ilusão brasileira.

A seleção brasileira era uma máquina, exceto pelo Serginho Chulapa. Se levasse o Reinaldo, ele faria pelo menos 2 gols na Itália. Reinaldo foi o melhor jogador que eu vi jogar. Só faltou ele para o Brasil ser campeão do mundo

The manager has left Jorge Mendonça out of this team ! Paulo Isidoro should be first team, Carlos should be the goalkeeper! Zico was playing so bad ….. he was used to play well against weaker sides ! He didn’t played well in 1982 and 1986( he has missed s very important penalty against France 🇫🇷) ! Falcão was the best player by far compared to other Brazilian players !
