When Mike said, “I wanna hear ya singing it!” I started singing it.

This was Prada in its most pure and unadulterated state. Honestly, perfection. I still love them now, but fuck 9 years later.... I miss these times.

This and Hey John are two of the better songs written by TDWP.

Kyle John they think their old stuff sucks. it may not be super professional but its fun, heavy, emotional and just great overall. their first three albums are my all time favorites.

i feel like it's just nostalgic for us all. I don't even blame them, I don't know how bands can play their songs so many times and not get sick of them

Sad that the band cowarded away from their faith based message and became shells of what they were.

Roots and zombie ep era > the rest. Plus James Baney and chris rubey were still touring then. Their 6 piece sound at that time when they started getting solid mixes at shows was MASSIVE.

I'm here in 2024 and I've been saying the same thing for years. Pre-Dead Throne was the best era for the band. Dead Throne was noticeably weaker than previous albums and that was the album cycle that led to James being kicked out.

@@AGuyUwU I saw them at an old theater in 2010 in Kansas City opening for kill switch engage and it was insanely good. It was a wall of sound. I didn’t know James got kicked out I thought he just quit. What happened?
I saw them several more times from 2011-2014 and then not again until last year year. in 2023 opening for ABR and they were a shell of the old band. Mike swears on stage now, it’s weird. But all things change, and I’m not condemning him for swearing, it was just awkward cause he never used to do that.

@@clintonbruning If you listen to each album before Dead Throne, then listen to Dead Throne, it sounds like they almost intentionally kept the keyboards quiter than usual as well as giving him little credit for things he did for the band.
During the second half of the Dead Throne tour on February 22, 2012, the band announced on Facebook that they parted ways with James so he could spend more time with his family, however, James hinted online that he was kicked out. One day they abruptly approached him out of nowhere telling him they booked him a flight home and that he was out of the band. That same year I went to Warped Tour 2012 and was watching For Today perform. During their set, I saw someone taking photos of the band and realized it was James. I immediately started screaming his name and started alerting everyone in the crowd as loud as I could that the ex-keyboardist of TDWP was in front of us in case other people who ever wanted to speak to him since he was kicked had a chance to. After their set, he heard me calling him and approached us with warmth and kindness. I was cramped in the crowd, but, had just enough room to speak to him face to face and asked him what is the real story behind why he was no longer in TDWP. I knew there was something wrong when the band announced his departure, so that's why I said "real" reason why he wasn't in the band anymore.
He said something like this: "There isn't too much I'll say, but, those guys were kind of jerks to me. The band simply didn't want me in anymore and it wasn't my decision to leave the band." He was taking pictures of For Today because the band was apparently trying to put together a DVD and what was one of his new hustles. I had to speak to him in case I never had the chance to again.
I thanked him for his time and explanation to my question, then we parted ways.
A couple of curious old school fans who didn't get the chance to speak to him themselves like I did had the courage to ask him online years later why he wasn't in the band and he said something like this: "Leaving the band wasn't my decision. During the production of Dead Throne, the band would back-handedly compliment by saying I stepped up my game. The recording for this album was the first time the band had to actually see how I contributed to the band because they usually discredited me for the work I did and gave most of the credit to our producers. It was condescending attitudes like this that contributed to why I got kicked out."
If you search up images of the band pre-Dead Throne and compare them with pictures and after the Dead Throne era, you can almost tell the band was going in a darker and more industry catering route. The band was leaving what made them fun behind and getting more serious, which was a good move, however, it isn't good when you start compomising what helped get the band as big as it did and that was the fun factor. If you notice James in pictures during the Dead Throne era, he looks visibly unhappier in the band.
James was one of two people who disagree with the rest of the band on the direction it was headed. The band was beginning to condemn the albums that brought them as far as they were and started refusing to play old material. Daniel was the other person who advocated to play old material.
The band was Christian, and that faith based messaged paired with the emotional depth the band put into the music while preaching that message only complimented what made the band so beloved. Listen to Hey John, What's Your Name Again and you can feel the love and sadness in the chorus almost mimicing the compassion Jesus Christ had in the Bible. You don't have to follow the belief system to feel the beauty of the character of Christ, nor to feel the beauty of that part of the song. The band's purity and way they conducted themselves also contributed to how beloved they were because seeing them now is witnesses a shell of what was once a band who set a standard of the ethos on how to conduct yourself as a Metalcore band. The bigger the band got, the more tattoos and more Luciferian the band got. It added a stench to the band that destroyed the purity that people had become accustomed to.
Mike started bending the narrative to cater to his personality problems in a way that seemed selfish and unpleasing in the sense that the band's lyrics would mainly focus on personal and external issues with a faith based approach. Dead Throne still had some Christian themes, but it was light in comparison to other works and was overshadowed by Mike crying about his problems.
The band has always followed Underoath's footsteps on how to conduct themselves, but were better at it, however, once Underoath came out with their poorly judged reasons for not being Christian anymore, TDWP followed suite and flat out denied they were a Christian to begin with, when in reality they were. James used to remind the band that the band should act more as a ministry then a business. The rest of the band became corrupt and completely turned their backs on the connections they pranked about that brought them this far. The band even said in older interviews that it was God who blessed them with success. It may not have been their God completely that garnered them success, because the band was amazing in general, but the spirit that was prevalent in older music definitely helped. As soon as the band began their Dead Throne era, as well as kicking James out, the band took a nose dive.
Their performances were getting sloppier and they were becoming drunkards behind stage. Their mixes live after Dead Throne were noticeably worse than before and the band now are shells of who they were as people and the band in general is a deconsecrated shell of what it was.
