  • Ryan Blackburn reacts to the Denver Nuggets stunning 98-90 Game 7 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Nuggets led by 20 points early in the fourth quarter before an offensive collapse led to a competitive fourth quarter. The Timberwolves, led by Anthony Edwards, simply made more plays than the Nuggets. Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic showed up for Denver, but they weren't perfect, and the Nuggets needed perfection. Ryan discusses what went wrong, how the series was lost, and what to make of Denver's 2023-24 season.

    Humbling moment. Lose by 45 then blow a 20 point lead in G7 at home. Pride comes before a crash. They were talking trash as front runners. Now the coach is cursing reporters. 🤦‍♂️

      Minnesota's defense basically took him out of the series! Because MPJ has an average handle at best, and can't dribble-penetrate with any efficiency, they simply shadowed Porter Jr the whole time. When he did get open looks, he didn't hit them with regularity. You would think that, at 6-10, he would attempt to affect the game in other ways, by crashing the glass and/or being impactful with his defense and loose balls. Very little! Minnesota's D made him look average!

People keep saying there were no high profile players available, but come on! Get somebody. Hell, in regards to bigs, bring in Dwight Howard on a minimum....he would have done it. Would have beaten having DJ over there being a cheerleader as a back-up big or Nnaji, who they were never able to convert into a passable bench 5.

      Exactly! Porter Jr, or his family, are hardly victims here- lol! Also, when one listens to Porter Jr talk, with that slow, methodical, and lazy tone, it's a perfect reflection of how he plays. One can hardly accuse him of being a "high-energy" guy! Multiple times during the series, I would see him simply watch his man beat him for a rebound or loose balls!

    This is the quintessential example of why you don't allow a series to go to a 7th game when you hv a chance to close it out in 6. It sounds cliche when it's said, "Anything can happen!" but, it's absolutely true. The Nuggets offense all-of-a-sudden becoming stagnant and going cold in the 3rd quarter is a perfect example. Also, the lack of a bench caught up with Denver! I also think that, when Minnesota suddenly cut it to about 6, Denver was almost in shock; they didn't know what hit them. Everything on offense afterwards was either iso-mode with Joker and Murray or an outside shot in desperation. The latter-half of the 4th quarter, Denver was gassed! They stood and watched while Minnesota was flying around going for steals and dunking put-backs. When Gobert hit the turnaround jumper with the shot-clock running down- I knew it was a wrap! Huge blown opportunity for Denver! To me, they were the obvious better team, when playing at their best but, I think they just assumed Minnesota would fold- they didn't! It cost them a chance to repeat as champions!

    Jokic playing 46 minutes in a game where they were up 15-20 points is the worst thing Malone did. He was clearly gassed by the end. Forget shots, there was no energy. Its a fireable offense.

      @edkiely2712 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Minnesota's ability to continually throw 3 guys at Joker and, Denver's lack of an adequate big to spell him, took its toll. Not only does the staff need to find a big to spell Joker during the regular season and playoffs but, a big who's versatile to play the 4 and 5 and, also fits seamlessly into their offense. Sounds easy theoretically but, isn't always easy to actualize with salary cap and/or player availability issues!

Both teams had anomalous occurrences, one had addiction cause a player to just vanish, again , the other had crazy blowouts. What they both had in common is that they just aren't the best teams in their sports. They both need additions to line up.

    Nuggets under pressure reverted to being soft and passive. Jokic in the 3rd quarter didn't do what was necessary to stop the bleeding. MPJ is obviously not that guy and overly relying in Murray has proven to be a mistake. Shame that management and Malone have wasted at least 3 or 4 years of Jokic's prime. Now a one championship team is a real possibility, if not probability, and they showed such a lack of mental toughness this season and in this series that I don't know how they can recover. If Jokic goes inside they win--but like many games they lose he was unwilling to. Murray overdribbling against pressure was terrible too. Malone was a non-entity this game, arghh.. An all time choke after an all-time rout in game 6. Soft and weak-minded all the way around.

    T-Wolves are in the same tier as Nuggets but T-Wolves window is next ten years. Ant is 22 and will only get better. OKC and Dallas are in a similar, better situation. Nuggets' superstar is 29 and is questionable if he will sign another contract. Nuggets have a 3-4 year window in an extremely competitive conference where all superstars are young. This is a good situation to be owned by Kroenkes, for them this is a business and a business failures have consequences. Have no doubt there will be big changes.

      Wolves window isn't 10 years cause the new CBA. They put this into place for parity. Will be much harder to maintain roster construction for contenders. The team who actually has a window of 5+ years is probably OKC due to their draft capital. Nuggets window is probably only 3-4 more years, but changes do need to be made.
