    Great stuff. The UHDs are great units, but getting the Ultra 106 for basically the same price as a regularly priced 93SV, and it's a complete no brainer. The Ultra 106 is a MUCH better unit. Taking nothing away from the 93sv, as it's a great unit too. But the sale price makes it an EASY decision. If someone still isn't convinced, just go to a Basspro and hit the map button at the same time on both units. There is a significant difference in load time.

    I've got both the UHD and Ultra. The UHD processor is a little too slow in loading maps and resolution is fine but inferior to the Ultra. It is aggravating when i switch navigation zoom on the 93 UHD, big lag. I just picked up another 102SV Ultra on sale to replace one of my 93SV's UHD's and am very pleased with the Ultra's performance. Just one 93 UHD left to upgrade now and all three will be Ultra's. Well worth the wait to pick up an Ultra on sale rather than do it like I did and buy a UHD and then later upgrade to the Ultra, which is what I ended up doing.

      Thanks Gerry!
      I don’t have any first hand experience with the 12” lowrance HDS lives I have used the 9” units and the side imaging was lack luster at best. Full disclosure I’m not well versed in them and I’m sure they could have possible been dialed in a little better with more time. But they did the job and put us on fish.
      I found them harder to use and dial in, but I’m sure that just takes some time to learn like anything else.
      If I had to pick I’d pick the garmin unit every time.

    Great video! Question: I'm interested in the 12 inch screen Ultra. After watching other live scope videos though, most say they LVS32 transducer is better than the 12. I understood you to say the 12 inch ultra screen could only support the LVS12 transducer not needing the black box? Is there a work around to use the 12 inch ultra, and the LVS32 live scope transducer? Thanks

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Randal, sorry I must have confused you.
      All the units in this video as well as many other garmin units will support the lvs32 livescope that requires the black box and hooks up via the network ports.
      There are only a couple of units that can use the lvs12 livescope. It requires NO black box and has a dedicated lvs12 port on the back of the units cradle.
      I hope that clears things up for you.

    Great video and explanation. The ultra is the way to go.
    One thing I struggle with, regardless of the brand, is the amperage draw especially when talking about the RMS wattage of the transducer. In this video you mentioned 350 watt rms for the transducer. For a 12 volt source this would equate out to 29 amperage draw- which it can’t be.
    So this would mean internally they are taking 12 volts and stepping that voltage up to let’s say 350 volts and sending that to the transducer which would mean the amperage draw for the transducer portion is really 1 amp. Are we really seeing at least 350 volts sent out the transducer cable to the transducer? This seems incredible to me.

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish I knew more on that exact subject because I have the same question.
      I would think it would be very similar to stereo RMS ratings and sub woofers and speakers/amps etc??

    • @jimcrowley1709
      @jimcrowley1709 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MGMarineTech
      Actually it is the same for power amplifiers and speakers and it’s not uncommon to have higher voltages hit your speakers. Just think the voltage from your wall outlet is 120 volts RMS at whatever amps your circuit breaker is rated for. This is why many home cooking devices are rated for 1,500 watts (12.5 amps) or less -to keep from tripping a typical 15 amp circuit.
      I’m glad to see your just as inquisitive as I am. I’m surprised there isn’t more videos where people are taking a molded transducer apart -if it’s even possible -or at a minimum winding and making their own and doing tests. I have an electronic background myself, but I find these discussions among fishermen are "too much in the weeds" for them.

    • @MGMarineTech

    Did you have a chance to test the power consumption of 2d and side/down imaging engaged both at the same time from an ultra unit?
    Wild make sense to have two distinct transducers linked to two distinct ultra units to maximize results?

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did get a answer from a garmin engineer on this.
      He stated the the power rating of the the unit say 600watts for a ultra is per channel so 600w for side 600 for down 600 for 2d so the unit can drive a transducer fully.
      Power output is also dictated by depth/range and not gain.

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well if you want to use it for anything other than livescope you will have to go with the ultra. The 1022 is a screen only and you can’t hook a transducer directly to it.
      Many guys use them as dedicated livescope screens and love them. Especially for ice fishing as they are button operated and you don’t have to take gloves off.
      If it’s livescope only I’d choose the 1022 all day

    Would the image quality be any better on a Echomap Ultra 10” than a 12” since it’s the same pixel count but on a smaller display?

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In theory yes. The 10 has a higher pixel per inch than the 12.
      To the eye it might be extremely hard to tell? I’ve not had one side by side to see.
      I think the added benefit of the larger screen outweighs the pixel density in the 10 vs 12 debate.
      I’d pick the 12 over the 10 every day. UNLESS you could put 2 10’s side by side. :)

    I have seen numerous comparisons of the 93sv uhd and ultra units. As I understand, the ultra uses a GT54 transducer and the plus uses a gt52. Will the Plus unit work ok with a GT54 transducer? Or, is the processor in the plus not up to the task? Would the plus gain any advantage using a GT54?

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the plus is a older unit that’s no longer produced or supported with updates. It will still network with a uhd or ultra.
      But to answer your question,
      The uhd and ultra units are both “uhd” units and can use any of the “uhd” ( ultra high definition) transducers such as the gt54 or gt56. The ultras are basically a bigger and better uhd unit.
      The plus units used the gt52 typically, and can’t take advantage of the gt54 or any Uhd transducers. Unless a gvc20 box is used with a gt34 or gt36
